  • also who ever wrote this song has grammer fail(i think) the line "I'm not taking nothing for granted anymore " double negative fail :O

  • Vegetable definitely doesn't sound right to me. I think Greg probably vaguely remembered the definition of "votary" but for some reason he thought of "vetrope" and associated it with the definition.

Whatever the case, it's still a great song, and it tells us that Greg doesn't just sit there with a thesaurus and look up words for his songs to sound intelligent. He knows almost all of them by memory!

  • English isn't my first language either, but the only word I can think of is "metope". Still, it wouldn't make any sense at all...

  • what can i say.. hmmn nothing... pls dont follow.. pls respect each religion

  • one of my favs.... bad religion , best band ever

  • Well I guess vegetable bears more merit than vetrope... But if it isn't correct, then votary is probably the word they were looking for. Anyway, it's not a big deal as Bad Religion has produced over 250 songs of pure intelligence.

  • Now that I think of it, could the word actually be votary? It would make sense. Anyway, maybe I'm hearing it wrong.

  • Lyrics are taken from the booklet so I assume they are correct :) Dunno whats a vetrope either sorry

  • Even though I think Greg's a smart guy, I think he means votary in this song. He says, "I ain't no blind supporter" and that is the direct antithesis of what a votary is. As a matter of fact, I don't think the word vetrope exists.

In any case, this tune is still amazing, and is probably the longest fast song I've heard from them thus far.

  • Yeah you are right, the word vetrope doesn't exist. Sorry English isn't my mother tongue so it's hard to tell for me. According to the forum of "The Bad Religion Page" the word is vegetable, Jay Bentley told them they say. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

  • @Blackfury1 Well people who are brain dead are called vegatables, so maybe hes referring to that useage?

  • @thisisfun815 I didn't know, but that sounds reasonable!

  • @Blackfury1 just because you cant find it in a dictionary doesn't mean its not a word. Thats the awesome thing about English. If we couldn't draw upon logic to further develop the language, it wouldn't be worth the letters forming it. That said, I don't think it is Votary, and that the actual meaning is what you originally thought is was, not something to later cover up something creative they made back when they were actually punk enough to make their own REAL words. Existence if a funny thing.

  • @Johnnydotca

I hereby decree vetrope to be a word. A word that, being multifaceted, is meant to mean a summation of the syntax it is used within. I will annotate etymological considerations in the proper peer journals for the sake of all those involved, and appreciate your backing for such an endeavor should you choose to follow me in this pursuit.

Thank you for your time, and mashed potatoes.

"I don't think the word vetrope exists"

    It does now!

  • One word, Excellent.

However, I wouldn't normally do this, but what's a vetrope?

  • If you like the ideas explored in this song, you should check out Zeitgeist Addendum, it is hosted on youtube for free, they tell how to create a Utopian Society :)

  • You can't dodge this one, epic song!

  • Last of the great Bad Religion stuff right there. Straight up Anthem !

  • Why last? You don't like their post "The New America" stuff? To me the band feels like reborn since "The Process of Belief"

  • This music is incredible, especially considering the time it came out. NOBODY was playing music like this back then. The new stuff is still ripping. No other band has ever managed to maintain consistent over time like BR. These guys are infallible.

  • I agree, although i've deeply loved everything they ever created. Except into the unknown. But i'm a die hard fan.

  • Well me too in a way, but I still think "The New America" was their worst album. I remember how the band felt old and tired to me when I first heard it. Let it Burn was a fine tune and I also liked the bonus track The fast Life but not really the rest of it.

  • its not easy to talk about the new america.

I also think it's definitly one of their worst.

Especially the first half of it kind of sucks, its way to poppy.

But songs like "the hopeless housewife", "dont sell me short" and "there will be a way" are some of their most emotional songs, all being sung incredibly well by greg. and those are really good songs.

i also like whisper in time, i love my computer, and let it burn. 1000 memories is okay.

i think its better than the grey race

  • @DaymanVersusNightman huge fan as well.i havent heard unknown though.did you like how could hell be any worse?i was hoping they would continue playing that style of hardcore into the next album

  • what about recipe for hate and STF?

    2 of the best albums
