Lets be fair, many business people earn more than MPs when they have very little power. Pay MPs more and get higher quality people, the reason this is happening is MPs are not paid well for what they do and the expenses are there to reflect that. Lets be open and pay what is required and ban all expenses. Easy. Remember we elect them to run the country and remuneration HAS to reflect that premis. They are not office or blue collar workers. Make it open and move on

Why do people on council estates use benefit fraud to get even more money for themselves as they can't be arsed to get a proper job?

because macmillan introduced a lower salary, but they could claim expenses to pad it out, and succesive goverments have never had the balls to scrap the expense system and just give the mp's a better wage inline with doctors and headteachers.

MP expenses originally had two purposes

Travel and Second homes for MP's whos constituants are a large distance from London.

Buit that system has been abused, in my opinion MP's should have a block of flats in London to stay while their, it would be a good investment. The only problem would be stories which eminate from it:P

How bizarre that they're arguing about who's going to spend more money. Why not just say "yes, we're going to cut spending because we want to cut the deficit"

because labour always say that when you cut public spending, doctors, nurses teacher (front line staff) will lose their jobs. they don't realise that you can cut spending and you wouldn't notice it when you are at school or in the hospital. or by sacking thousands or useless wanker beaurocrats or aaxing quangos.

socialism is like heroin, very addictive and hard to stop. also the fact that the more people on the goverment payroll, the more people who will vot for you to save their job. there are thousands of non-jobs like outreach officers and diversity executives. all have excelent wages and very good pensions and utter waste of money!
