  • @DJPeteJames I think the sound ist not the same (other components) but with the typical oberheim sound character

  • sounds great except for the annoying rythym......

  • You could always dload one of these, but it is not like the real thig... But you WILL publish your record on CD, right ? :P

  • Love the Oberheim sound.

  • VCO's for life!!!

  • IMHO, the best analog polysynth ever made. Blows the Memorymoog away anyday! Just wish it'd been a little more road worthy. Don't know which spent more time in repair, the OBX, or the PPG Wave 2.2. Two of my all-time faves, tho. Together, they were killer.

  • @4everColReb

    absolute agree with you :))

  • I see, and i hear - this is Great instrument ,marvellous space sounds

  • @TheSolAlex

    :))

  • where can i buy one of these from?

  • @flyyourkite95

this is not easy. the OB-X is very rare.

  • @flyyourkite95 maybe eddie van halen will sell you his

  • I love the pads this keyboard produces. Very spaced out, makes me feel like Im gliding inbetween dimensions. I have a moog prodigy, and I love it to death! but I only wish it was polyphonic.

If only I could carry over the moog filters and oscillator to a pad synth like this..

  • very trippy

  • Which synth do you think is the best for this kind of sounds?

Is there any cheaper machine that's good enough at this?

  • @arzani86

the OB Matrix 6/1000 synths are great and cheap

  • @DJPeteJames

only a bit delay (Lexicon MPX)

  • ok retrosound,thanks

  • Great synthesizer of coarse....do you know Neuron? Everybody who love sintes has to hear it. you can see it on Youtube neuronaluniverse.

  • @Neuronaluniverse

Sure I know the Neuron. Great Synth!

  • analog sound forever! digital sound sucks. nice OB-X :D

  • I love these Space Sweeps. What better instrument is there to express our wonderment at the distant, complex, and ever unreachable outer space. Great video!

  • Oberhiems had a unique sound all their own.

  • Software synths may duplicate the sound to a level where it is completely indistinguishable, but there's still something about hardware that just doesn't translate into software. Personally I might be unable to tell between the real thing and software, but knowing there's a real synth playing somewhere is always a nice feeling. :)

  • i could listen to these synths over and over.the sound is just amazing.your lucky to own one.

  • @yoyo0072

    thank you

  • 1984

  • There are no words to describe that sound. This may well be the greatyest synth of the all.

  • @userjoe1020

    thx :)

  • Nice Sound

  • This demo shows why the real analog synthesizer keep their value. No software emulation can can quite obtain that warmth and smoothness. The OB-X is clearly one of the best sounding analogs around!

  • absolute agree!

  • @retrosound72 i feel the same way but roland is getting close with the fantom g

    though

  • \m/ respect+agree!!

  • @MacXpert74 Couldn't agree more!

  • Very sweet, but I think you had the OB-X tuned down 2 whole steps from E to C. :P

  • Great demo Marko

  • thanks a lot Marc :)

  • Just awesome

    :-)

  • thank you :)

  • superb synth marco, also sounds very john carpenter, filter sweeps are so common on most modern synths but none sound like that, beautiful:)

  • :)

    thank you Mick

  • @mik300z Couldn't agree more!

  • Superb instrument!

  • hey retrosound turn on your favourites from your channel, I want to see something please.

  • the OB-X is very, very rare and functional synths in good condition cost 3500-4000 $

the M-1000 is also nice but very different to the OB-X , more similar to the Xpander but less the VCO`s

I think the M-1000 is very underrated

  • Wow deine Maschinen klingen einfach alle nur....

... mir fehlen die Worte dafür! Tolle Demo wie immer Marko. :)

    Grüsse.

  • :)

    Ich danke dir.

  • i have an OB-Xa. it's sounds very much alike in depth and tone - but the OB-X has more 'air' in the high freqs and is a touch phatter.

  • both synths OB-X and OB-Xa are fantastic

really like the classic Oberheim sound

  • thank you :)

  • nice

  • Very nice sounds *****

  • thanks

  • Beautiful, as always. Your posts always make my day!

  • thanks a lot eddie

  • sweet sound, wish i could afford an analog

  • nice, this launches me straight to the cosmos

  • thanks

  • I almost forgot about Carl Sagan. The OB filter is rather nice. I could listen to this over and over, and then later see what I could do with my own digital and analog synths.

  • thanks :)

  • im a big fan of carl sagan this this nice and so this lovely sounds you are playing marko..10out 5.....:)

  • thanks a lot :)

    great

  • Did you tune the synth down?

You are pressing "E" yet "C" is playing.

  • no,

    a fault in video editing

  • OK! Sounds good though (Cause it's an Oberheim)!

  • This is exactly why i want a synthesiser.

  • Its interresting that it doesn't sound like prophet5 or the jupiter8. The filter is really unique. Great harmonies tio.

  • yes the sound is different to the curtis chip based polysynths

  • Excellent job as always, Marko. With every video you take, I am longing for an analog synth a little more.

    Five stars on this video.

  • thx a lot :)

  • @retrosound72 No problem. Keep programming those synths for me and all of the world's other synth fans to enjoy. ;-)

  • That synthesizer has AMAZING filters!!!!!! they rock me to Jupiter and back!

  • :)

    thanks for watching

  • love it marko...keep em comin sir :)

  • :)

    thx a lot

  • Excellent stuff;a tiny bit of reverb on the percussion, and you will have nailed that Cosmos vibe[best show ever btw]

  • thanks :)

  • Fantastic sound. I love the filters specially.

Regarding analog vs digital, I think analogs are like a Rolls Royce in cars: maybe not too versatile, but the feeling of using (and hearing) them is a pleasure you can't get with a digital one.

The analog random detune variations still can't be exactly emulated by any virtual analog :)

  • absolute agree with you

    thank you

    your new vid is great!

  • New favourite synthesizer i see :)

  • yes indeed :)

  • Beautiful as always Marko...

    Cheers

  • thank you :)

  • Love the tone of this MONSTER synth!!! I need a true analog in my life,.. i only have an Emu Emax I.

  • The kind of futuristic tones found on Rush' "Permanent Waves" album.

  • Just a single note on this machine and it sounds like a big big big deal. Its fantastic

  • yes a single sound, no layer, no eq, no overdubbing-

    only the pure synth power

    thx

  • No comment! Simply 5 stars! ******!

  • ;)

    thx a lot

  • Sounds like John Carpenter to me...

  • this is high school, this is series A

  • thx :)

  • mach doch! :)

  • Was für ein voller Sound! Klasse! :)

  • :)

    danke

Tolles Video, Marko.

Mach uns mal allen den Mund wässrig...lol.

Nein, toll das du solche Videos machst.

    5 *

    Robin :o)

  • danke robin :)

    ich weiß, sowas ist gemein.

  • Nice, very Giorgio Moroder-esque, In fact it sounds like music from Cat People. That is a good thing by the way...I love that music and you do it very well here.

  • thank you

  • @PsychedelicVideos how am i being ignorant?? pot calling the kettle black? Funny how you delete your stupid ass comments, to make me look bad. haha

  • Comment removed

  • ahhh, your true colours have fully blossomed. nothing like further exemplification of your idiocy for me to laugh at. such a lovely character you are.

  • Comment removed

  • the fact that you think looking up things in the dictionary is bad is only further testament to my earlier claims regarding your lack of sense.

  • PsychedelicVideos Quote: "i dont have anything against analog synths, i am simply of the opinion that they are outdated and not practical in a modern environment"

I'm guessing you've never owned a real analog instrument, otherwise you wouldn't of made such an ignorant statement.

  • i own a grand, and baby grand piano. along with 3 guitars an electric bass and a set of Technics SL-1200 turntables.

doesn't get much more analog than that.

  • Then why would you say something so dumb about any analog gear? Head up ass syndrome?

  • lol you're cool bro.

  • :)

geht leider nicht, zwecks Nichtvorhandensein eines Synthex ;)

  • One person asks: "What can this synth do that a software replica of it ......can't?"

    Umm....

    .anything AND everything !!!

Real-time tactile control of each parameter. You cannot replicate the "feel" of an analog synth, just as an virtual "hot girlfriend" won't ever replace the real thing !!!

Having owned an OB-X, an Oberheim 2-Voice, a Prophet 5, Minimoogs, a Micromoog, Hammond C3, etc.---there is no substitute !!! You can get similar sounds, but it isn't the same. Great stuff. Peace:-)

  • :)

    You understand!

    thank you

  • John 14:2

    our future homes?

  • Fantastic demonstration of this first class instrument.

    5***** ; )

  • thank you :)

  • Obies have such fat pads mmmmmmmmmm nice.

  • This is certainly a very space age sound, I can see this being used in a space travel movie. When was this synth made? It's got a really nice warm deep sound to it.

  • 1979-1980, only 800-1000 are made

the OB-X is the link between the SEM and the OB-Xa

  • Really great, reminds me of Jon Hallur's soundtrack to Eve Online.

  • thanks

  • extraordinary tool, thanks very nice!!

  • thank you

  • Inspiring....)

  • thx :)

  • what can this synth do that a software replica of it being controlled via MIDI can't?

  • @PsychedelicVideos

    Connect by CV! Ha!

  • first of all, stop assuming im trying to make a negative comment about analog synths. your "ha!" comment is clearly an attempt to make me feel stupid or bad in some way for asking a perfectly legitimate question.

second of all, what is "CV" and is there a digital equivalent?

third, could the average listener tell the difference between CV and its digital equivalent? (assuming there is one)

  • CV is Control Voltage. You could describe it as the analogue precursor to MIDI although it can't do quite as much as MIDI and works in a completely different way.

  • you can install the encore midi kit

  • It's a real analog synth, it's impossible to model/emulate real analog synth perfectly with any piece of software.

  • of course, but 97% of people wont be able to tell the difference. a 3% margin isn't worth blowing thousands of dollars on just to collect outdated technology that can be replicated with a small margin of error for free.

  • believe me the difference is enormous :)

  • perhaps to you (a synth aficionado) but to 97% of listeners that doesn't mean anything.

if you're trying to make music for that 3% good for you, but in my opinion investing so much money to please so few people doesn't make sense. but you can do whatever you want, have fun.

  • @PsychedelicVideos Who sent you?? First you ask a dumb ass question, then respond with your own answer. If you played a Minimoog & then a VST emulation, 99% of people WOULD be able to tell the difference in sound. Since you don't own one wtf do you know?!

This is a hobby, there are people who spend more than this on useless stamp or coin collection, and other completely utterly useless things. who are you to tell him whats "worth it" or not? it's his money and obviously he feels it's worth it.

  • stop being such an ignorant twat. just because someone post something that is contrary to popular opinion does not mean they are trying to start shit.

  • It is the complete package, not only the unique sound, the feeling, the knobs, the history , the soul of a real analog synth.

It gives very good software today. I am however from the old iron and I love this old gear.

Why do all love a Jaguar E-Type?

Not because of engine power or security.

    Its fun!

  • i completely get where you're coming from, i still prefer to use film & my darkroom over digital photography.

all im saying is that for commercial recording purposes i think it makes much more sense for an artist to spend as little money on equipment as possible when there are alternatives that can do practically the same thing.

  • I agree with you, and I've played analog synths before and even though I tried telling myself they sound different, DSP technology today is advanced enough for softsynths to sound just as good.

The cool thing about analog synths is that there's a feeling of the system being unstable, like you can feel the "electrical-ness" of the sound, with no quantization or error correction involved. I can't really explain it properly.

    It's a hobby, don't criticize it.
