  • I feel like a kid in the 80s again :-)

  • back when you had to have the box thing

  • wow i remember this. one movie channel and that was it! lol

  • Geesh I remember as a kid going to my grandmothers and uncles house watching this, my uncle used to say let's see what's on home box :) meaning HBO, home box office, we also used to play duck hunt and Mario on the Nintendo. Good times.

It was great because we lived in the country and got 3 channels, channel 3 PBS and UHF lol..

Good times, I'd leave it all now for one day of it

  • The 80s look so good! But no! I had to be born in the late 90s!

  • @sonicbigfan1 You were born when you were suppose to be, dear. It has been said from ancient wise ones there are good and bad things in every generation, as well as wonderful and not so wonderful people. Embrace your generation and change the things you don't like about it...perhaps you will be a fearless leader for all those in your age bracket.

  • They played this well up into the 90s on occasion, usually at night. The music is so epic, the whole thing holds up well today but they would never bring it back since it's too long. They cram everything they can for previews and whatnot between movies.

  • @sd2ak You're right, sadly. Besides, how would we know when True Blood is on...fifty times an hour? :-D

  • Has anyone invented the time machine yet? I wanna go back to the 1980's!

  • Modern times kinda sick

  • Generally epic song from childhood. However, that's a real sloppy cut and music fade when it goes inside of the O. Obviously a different song. I prefer when it just cuts off at the right point.

  • Like to have this for a ring tone

  • I wonder if HBO execs ever read any of these comments? It would be so cool to see this used again. Heck, they could even modernize it with CGI if they wanted but keep the theme the same.

  • just waching a movie on my pijamas with my milk chocalete, and outside raining ......goddddddd i want those days back!!!!

  • man this makes me feel like im a baby again back at home :(

  • im with ya too I was 13 yrs old on that day.

  • so epic like wtf its just a tv station n the music is so heroic lol gotta love it

  • This intro made watching movies even more special like an event !!

  • CLASSIC

  • For All the teens and early 20s out there Yall Missed that greatness that was the 80s

The renaissance days of HBO, MTV, NBA , and Saturday Morning Cartoons

  • Many times this was better than the actual movie.

  • That is Mister Roger's Neighborhood in the beginning. And the big HBO floating in the sky is a UFO, except it looks like an HBO instead.

  • Great intro!

I remember seeing this one as a little tyke!

My granddad used to recored a bunch of movies off HBO and this one was one a alot of them!

    Brings back the old days!

  • @joshywood I'm with you on that one! And I'm only 24 years old. It's a shame when a young guy like me longs fro an era that he either wasn't born in or barely remember. Nowadays junk are just bland or way too modern for my taste. I was definitely born in the wrong decade lol! Anyways, I've never heard this variation of this logo before. Very interesting!

  • This would be an incredible (insert blank) flashback. This video is one of my very first fucking memories.

  • MIND...BLOWN

  • God I want these days back. Lets build a time machine, WHO'S WITH ME!!?

  • @joshywood count me in!

  • @joshywood

    Anytime! Lets go!

  • @joshywood I'm with you bro!

  • @joshywood Hell yeah man Im with Fuck 2010 Im ready to go back to the 80's 70's 60's ANYTHING but this shit now and days

  • @joshywood Count me in! I sincerely miss this era! HBO was at it's peak then too.

  • @joshywood I am. This is one of my favorites with the HBO Fanfare.

  • @joshywood I am.

  • @joshywood

    Count me in!!!

  • @joshywood I am

  • @joshywood

Dude! I built the time machine already! You can come along if you want! [maniacal laughter]

  • @joshywood I am!

  • @joshywood I am. I even wrote some words to the fanfare--

    It's a world of entertainment

    HBO, HBO, HBO

    Ahhhhh

    HBO, HBO, HBO.

  • @joshywood We need to borrow the Delorean from Doc for a little while.

  • @joshywood I wish I was smart enough to invent one. I would go back in time and never return to the shitty 2000s.

  • @joshywood

    I'm with ya

  • wow, flashbacks

  • this brings back alot of fuckin' memories.....I can actually smell the 80's right now....and I love it!!

  • Miss these days!!!

  • this brings back memories

  • Great memories when i was a kid..

  • Awesome! I remember this!

  • HBO in HD (High-Definition).

  • Holly shit! This brings back memories of when I was 7 or 8 and could stay up on Friday or Saturday and watch a movie. I haven't heard that music since I was a kid. I got butterflies iny stomach because it brought me back to that time instantly. I could see my living room just as it was set in 1983. Fucking scary feeling hearing and seeing this but in a good way.

  • I always thought that the "O" was supposed to be the heads of a VCR when I was young.

  • @lukenuetzmann !!!! I did too!!

  • Ah... this brings me back...the old days.

  • I watched a special on how this intro was made and you will not believe the amount of work that went into this one minute intro! It was completely amazing with an awesome miniature set that was built. Thanks, for posting!

  • @in2theabyss17 where did you see it... i would love to watch it sometime.

  • I saw that special the other day. It's floating around YouTube somewhere. Amazing how it took them three months just to build the miniature city. And to think, they could probably do it within less than a week today with CGI, and have it look only half as good.

  • I actually can remember the day they discontinued this. November 1, 1997. A very sad day.

  • Wow. '97? I can't believe it ran for that long. 14 years. Can't blame them, though. It was a cool intro. The first time I saw it was during the premiere of the original Star Wars.

  • @davesantiagallery What was the HBO intro bumper that replaced the space one like?

  • The ones that immediately followed the space bumpers were more bland. From what I remember, it was just the HBO logo put somewhere in a variety of landscapes (the city, the beach, etc.). They were very short (except for the prime-time movie, which was longer because they described the movie being shown). When I first saw the new ones, I thought "Boy, these aren't as exciting as the old ones!". And they weren't used for long.

  • @Turppa21 Yet the Closing Logo Group says that it was retired in 1999. Is that correct or not?

  • lol, ay im 30 now i rememer this back in the days, its kicks in right when the spark comes out then the hbo symbol comes @ 0:36

  • I like this even more, lol

  • We got cable in 1982 and I always remember this being a big deal right before they would show a movie...

  • Me too. When I was a kid, seeing this always meant "Yay!! No commercials!!"

  • We got cable in 1982 and I always remember this being a big deal right before they would show a movie...

  • Oh, the memories!

  • Amen to that! :)

  • God I feel old after watching that. Brings back good times though.

  • God I loved this, this brings back so many memories!

  • shut up i like it more

  • THIS IS THE SHEEEEEEEEEIT !!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this..and I miss these days.

  • @CdotX

    Me too...me too

  • The whole cityscape was done with models. The streets, the bus, the van, the cars....all miniatures. The camera rode on a small crane overhead.

  • Back when hbo had a little class. But I loved this intro...

  • no they still got it ust not as much...

  • FUCKING EPIC!! Thanks 4 the nostalgia! AWESOME!

  • Holy SHIT! I remember this intro! This is bringin back memories for real. Thanks for the upload.

  • I remember HBO producing a "behind the scenes" featurette on how they made this opening. They spent months working on that tracking shot down the street (which was all done live... no CG until they got to the "spaceship" HBO satellite.

  • the HBO spaceship wasn't CG either. none of this was.

  • I remember the featurette- they used a bunch of lites arranged vertically on what looked like a turntable to get the "trail" effect around the "O" at the end of the intro

  • Was this the first 3d logo in history.

  • @spottymax

    NO CG AT ALL

  • We lived in the country so no HBO for us as kids but on weekends my parents would let me go over and spend the night at my cousins who had it! Great memories.

  • It's your Holy Savior my dearest people, worship the North Star that is the ultimate HBO !

  • If HBO would just bring that back they would re-establish themselves as "The Channel" once again.

  • Wow, this is old school, remember this as a kid. So dramatic, so 80's!

  • That's Hot!

  • I want to thank you for adding this to you tube! It was such a blast to listen and watch this intro again after years of not being able to see it! This is a classic! Awesome! Thanks for taking me back!
