@simov8chevy - First off I don't recommend this modification. I did this video 3 years ago and the place I bought the crystal from has since gone under but you may be able to find one from someone on eBay or I'm sure there are some shops online that would have them.
Again - you'd be much better off sending the radio to Rogerbird or Doc and have them modify it via a different method. The mod shown in the video was more just to show it could be done and isn't recommended.
The chipswitch is the only way to go with the 2600. The other ways to get them onto 11 meters not worth the trouble for the what you get when you're done. The chipswitch chips can still be found on the internet. They're well worth the money. No retuning was required on my rig. Change the chip and you're done.
@HiRiderAce - Yes that's exactly right. The radio is receiving on 27.185 even though the display shows 29.185. If you read the description under the video it explains in detail this modification and how it effects the display.
I've got one of those! Had it since 1989 and it packed up last year. It no longer TXs, even if the mic pins are connected. Any idea which transistor switches the radio in to TX as that is the one that has gone. I would love to get the radio going again as it is such a shame to be sitting in a cupboard. Mine was modified for 40watts FM and it does more on SSB. RX isn't as good as some radios but overall it is great. If you know which transistor switches RX/TX let me know!!!
can anybody tell me why my receive is so raspy when the volume is low? when i turn it up loud its great, but low its like muffeld/raspy thanks for any help
I have heard replacing the 2600 chip for a 2510 one does not work. The crystal change seems like it would work. I know someone who tried swapping the main chip, and it did not work.
where'd you get your 20mhz crystal. Cant locate any at all.

did you try an external speaker to compare audio difference? try that first, if done so and get the same result, you may then have a leaky capacitor.

You can replace the 2600 chip with the 2510 sucessfully. Rogerbird and Doc in NY both perform that modification.

It can be modified but its not legal to use it on the CB frequencies. And of course a ham license is required for the use of the 10 meter band.
