I was halfway through reading his book "Second Lives". Came online to read more about him and learned about his death. His melancholic musings in the book seem extra poignant now.

Drug addict, sheltered by a ton of money...goofing off in Second Life. The only reason he sold articles on SL is because its a subculture that most people dont understand, and reporters keep repeating the same tired crap.
SL is 50% sex and BDSM, 15% furries, 10% political whackos, and the rest from Brazil, Italy, and Europe in their own silly crappy subcultures within SL. Most of them spam giggling baby noises and crappy "freebie" emotes and wear gaudy clothes from FreeDove shop. Useless corpse
Haven't read his book, but I loved his columns in Edge magazine. Was recently looking to see if he had a Twitter account or a blog. All I could find were book reviews, and whiney 15 year olds complaining about how often Tim Guest wrote about SL in Edge. One of the reasons I decided not to get a subscription to Edge (aside from the high cost since I'm across the pond) was that his columns seemed to stop appearing. Downloaded a sample of Second Lives from Amazon. Will probably get the ebook.
Been reading the book right now. it came at a crucial time for me, as I'd stopped playing Second Life after the death of an online friend. The book has helped put it in perspective.
Ive just got to chapter 4 of tims book titled "second lives" . i have played computer games all my life , now playing eve-online . ive read everything i can get my hands on with regard to gaming addiction etc yet tims book beats just about the lot specially talking about folk who play as wilde cunningham , that really does touch you that story but it good to see these people interacting with society
I've been reading his colums in EDGE magazine since his start and it's brilliant. Guest is one of the first writers that looks at the social virtual space from the individual point of view.
his book is effing amazing. i looked this up b/c i'm halfway thru it and if you read the confusing muddle that was his childhood you'll understand why he'd want to create a world that he can control.

@CalicoatMaker I knew Tim and he was a lovely man. Your anger is useless ..... his life was not and is missed.

@CalicoatMaker Sounds to me like bitter jealousy. Sold many fly fishing articles lately?
