@triviumfr3ak Not that I totally agree, but damn with a whole world of awesome guitarists there's finally someone who can play bass at least as much relevant and important as this.
They're making music and it sounds good. It's not to show off their technical skill. It's about the blending of sounds to create something coherent and beautiful. IT'S MUSIC. I feel they pull it off quite well.
I just discovered this band a few weeks ago, and I must say, they are fantastic. I listen to all 4 of their albums front to back and not one song disappoints. Just goes to show you: You don't need a vocalist at all to make great music.
Yeah but Victor Wooten is corny as hell. It is glorified elevator music. Dexterity doesn't equal something I would care to listen to, and if you have the inability to appreciate music in any terms other than a talent show, then that is sad.
@jonesattack eh entwhistle, jaco, geddy lee, marcus miller, flea, claypool, heck even the bassist from offspring, hes not talented but it sounds awesome. chris wolstenholme for example, one of the best bassists in recent years that has went relatively unnoticed even with hysteria being the most tabbed song. all im saying bout this video is that its no more that a few notes played at once then looped and then played over.
"its no more that a few notes played at once then looped and then played over." yeah.. I think it's called a pattern and almost every song have it. I just think you're missing the point here. it's not about tecnique. it's about how good this song is and how cool it is to see a guy making all those nice sounds without any sampling gimmick or playback. all of the bass players you mentioned are really good, but I really like seeing something fresh and new as this guys.
@bukithd This guy has a fuckin degree in music composition. I think he knows a thing or two about music and how to play. He knows what the song needs, and he lays it down like a pro. I bet if he wanted to play a solo it could rival anyones out there. Plus he is also fantastic at guitar.
@guitarguy4991 I gotta say.... watching him play that thing does get me a little hot under the collar. And when he just tosses that pick away? Oh my....
@javier61330 i might classify it as post-rock since that's such a broad genre but El Ten Eleven is unique by itself in its use of loops as a main component of the music.. I've never heard a band similar to them honestly.
@sunnyday19791979 from what ive seen, he uses some octave pedal, but i see the digitech whammy, which comes into play i think more when hes doing stuff with a guitar. the line 6 delay modeler. i think i saw a ibanez tube screamer. in the interview from this performance i think they say something like 11 pedals all together. something i think i figured out is that hes not putting both loop pedals at the very end of his pedal chain. maybe to make the sounds very different?
ratatat have been around longer and I would argue el ten eleven have been inspired by them more as of late.
Their last album was a lot dancier and definitely reflected the work of people that had heard classics by R@3. Both bands are pretty incredible though.
@exeyece My Only Swerving is one chill ass song. Either to smoke weed to or just to sit and relax and have a drink...I can't stop listening to that song.

the most talent he shows in this song is his triplet picking ability. DADG tuning and 4 loops. go watch a victor wooten video
