The old man featured in this clip is 81-year-old Mr Yang Hao Ran 杨浩然 is Singapore's last Han music teacher and the only person alive who knows how to play the Han percussion in Singapore...

Why is there a double bass and what is it doing there?

We were playing a selection of Teochew and Han (Waijiang) music for the people from Esplanade that day. In Teochew music, both the cello and the double bass are used.
