  • I am doing some work based on this film. I have a few queries that need cleaning up.

At the end of the film where he slams his breaks on. The next scene chronologically should be the one when he enters the tattoo shop. However the scene you have put in this video is a black and white one where he is talking to an officer. I am sure this that the black and white scenes come before any of the color ones...

  • @kieranlink no the black & white scenes are intermingled with the color scenes in the original.. also, in the real version, they (black & white) go forwards & in this version they go backwards.. watch the original then make a comparison

  • @CocoaLuv22 I think I understand what you're saying, as far as the timing of the black and whites, but in the real time world, they all happen before Gammel tells him to go meet Jimmy, right? He's wearing the flannel, etc. For the sake of understanding the timeline, which I think was the point of your uploads, I'd have left out all the phone call parts, and the Sammy Jenkis parts. Still, great idea to do this.

  • @kieranlink Yeah, in the real time world the black and whites do all come before the meeting with Jimmy at the warehouse. It's kind of confusing. I think what the uploader did here, was literally just reverse the 'parts'. But in the real movie, there are two different timelines being established, the backwards 'case' Lenny is on, the one that will eventually lead him to kill Gammel, and the phone call. Two different intersecting timelines. If you leave all the b&w out, it makes more sense.

  • Things I never understood: when you see him and his wife in bed, and he's got the "I've done it" tattoo. Was he supposed to have gone so far to keep his mythical quest going that he actually had that tattoo removed, or was that part just some sad fantasy of his? Also, if he and Teddy have done this all at least once before (I wonder how many times they have), why doesn't he already have a Polaroid of Teddy? Also, how did he and Jimmy already meet?

  • @DarkSkyPrivateers first time i saw it i was high. i was shitting so many bricks..

  • enjoy it while you still remember. LOLOL

  • fucking dbag, the guy was just trying to help.

  • sorry god now all of this is making sense.. one of the things he burns is the underwear she's wearing when he's giving her the shot.. he doesn't want to remember that or that she had diabetes at all. he destroys everything that doesn't fit the story he's created

  • if what Teddy says about Leonard is true, and if Leonard can remember fully his life before the attacks, why doesn't Leonard remember his wife had diabetes? He says flatly that she didn't. If she didn't, then Teddy's not telling the truth.

  • @NaturalBornHedonist he basically trained himself to forget and purposely took advantage of his condition to distort his own memory of what happened.

  • @lmcgee fair enough but it still doesn'T explain why he would fool himself about his wife, when in fact his memory before the assault is perfectly in tact

  • @NaturalBornHedonist

He wants to fool himself about his wife, because he doesn't want to believe or remember himself as the person who killed her with an overdose of insulin. He WANTS to believe that he is trying to find the "John G. who raped and murdered her when she actually survived the attack.

  • @jfoxfan

Excactly! Like Teddy says: "So you lie to yourself to be happy. There's nothing wrong with that. We all do it. Who cares If there's a few little details, you rather not remember"

  • I Agree. we try to remember only the things that make us Happy. And we try to forget things we dont like. Lord knows that i try to Forget many things and try to only remember things that i make me Happy. but sometimes it is still tough !

  • @NaturalBornHedonist ie: think about him burning some of the stuff of his wifes'.. why else would he be doing that? he's changing what he remembers (ie pinching her leg playfully as opposed to pinching it to get ready for the insulin shot)

  • @NaturalBornHedonist because in the movie Lenny even said it himself, that memories can be distorted, that's one of the reasons why he thinks writing things down on the pictures are accurate, cause they're in print, not in a mental image.

  • I can see ties with Inception and the Dark Knight in this sequence.

Nolan is a master of his craft.

  • @Atreus21 i've seen all his movies even Following and each one of his movies are just perfect.

  • yah youre right!!!!! everything that teddy says is true!!!!!! eventually lennie kills her wife!!!!!!!!

  • if you want to work this movie out you have to believe in lenny. he has a system that he depends upon that gets fucked up by teddy (and others) who try to use him...but his system works in the end because he is intelligent enough to work it out and lie to himself to remove these people. in the end, he kills teddy and he has finally succeeded in his mission. that is why in the scene where he is driving there is a glimpse of him and his wife where he imagines the tattoo that says "ive done it" end

  • Everything Teddy says is true.

  • @ 8:29 he has a tattoo that says "ive done it" on his heart.

  • @MrHoppybunny It could be a flashback

  • alright so i dont get it. was it true what teddy said at 1:20 - 2:30

was lenard's wife the one who had diabetes? did she survive the assult?

  • @iknowad yeah everything he said was true and leonard was the one that set it up so he goes on an endless puzzle like teddy said.

  • @iknowad yes.

  • @iknowad no way...think about it. lenny remembers everything before the assault on his wife. hence why would he forget whether she was diabetic???

And then teddy asks lenny are you sure .

Furthermore...Teddy is getting rid of people who are dangerous to him through Lenny because Teddy is a corrupt cop ... I personally STILL think, that Teddy was somehow involved in Lenny's Wife murder !!!

  • good actor

  • lennie is a reckless retard

  • best movie ever

  • "Samy didn't have a wife! It was your wife who had diabetes!"

I thought wtf? What an awesome twist of the story!

  • Doesnt matter how many times you watch this movie, you will never fully understand the entire thing, chris nolan did an amazing job with this. Love joe pantolianos performance, totally underrated, you can never tell if hes bull shitting guy or if hes on the level

  • @gonzo81100 I understood it (as far as I can believe) after seing it once

  • How does he remember that Teddy's license plate number is Fact 6?? If i he can't remember 4 minutes into the future how did he remember that? Great Movie Though!!

  • he didnt he made it up to make another mystery for him to solve about John G.

  • he can rememer up to ten min or maybe a few longer, as long as he's not under stress or whatever, that's why when he hits this girl and all that, she leaves and his heart races and he forgets.

  • heh, you're right about that... never thought of it, but i guess there's quite a few of those cases in the movie. Doesn't make the movie any worse though, just gotta look past it

  • he doesn't remember teddy's license plate is that. he just tattoos it onto himself to know that his wife's killer's license plate is that. (all the "facts" are about her supposed killer). Then later on, in the file that natalitie (i think) gave to him, there was info about Teddy. It showed that his name was john g and that his license plate was that number. It was from THIS that leonard put two and two together and decided that Teddy was the "killer". Then he goes and shoots him.

  • @lightinthedusk no teddy gave it to him.

  • @corchafran

He wrote the plate number down on a piece of paper. He knows it's number 6 because he already has #5 tattooed.

  • @corchafran

i was wondering about tha too..i think he checked his tattoos when he was changing into the drug dealers suit.

  • what does it say on his chest? 8:29

  • @Daftpac I've done it

  • hey, thanks for uploading this. It really helps the movie to makes sense... I still can't decide whether or not teddy is actually innocent.

  • This is the question! And nobody is innocent.
