@mymusic777ify I'm bought this album in 79 aged 16, I disagree, I love today's electronic music, not all of it, much of it is shit but some of the sounds they produce on synths is amazing! see my channel.
Possibly my favourite Magazine track. Lyrics to die for. And a guitar "solo" that takes rock music into a back alley and slowly beats it to death. Genius.
Back then CFNY would pay you money if you caught them playing a song twice in one day. I learned more from that station than I ever did in high school.
In the mid 80's it was CKLN. Once heard four different versions of Hot Rod Lincoln back to back while me and my roommates were playing poker and drinking beer at 3 am.
Me and my brother used to play this album to death, one of the best of all time in my humble opinion. My Dad even liked this song-except for the "fuck" bit of course.
Read Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and you'll enjoy the album even more; read Dostoyevski's Notes From Underground and you'll enjoy this track even more.
On top of everything else cool about this song, I cite the guitar solo as one of the best ever recorded. It's art. John McGeogh: the most under-rated rock guitarist ever. Sure, the solo is written/composed and not improvised, but so what? It's phenomenal.
Their first two albums were just AWESOME!!! One of the most underated bands ever but now finaly getting the credit they deserve. What a brilliant track this is.
Utterly fabulous

@bagpipe200 YES. It gives the song its very unsettling edge. You imagine the "crime" takes place during the solo.
