I really love what you are saying. I do have passion. I found out just how much when I found out our group might get broken up and I was in tears because it is so much fun. I even went to our high school 2 nights in Dec. for "alumni night" and I never would have before now because I didn't have the confidence or the lip. We rocked the place even if there weren't many alumni there. I was the oldest. Had a kid tell me that his dad had told him I was a "trumpet God" in high school. OMG lol haha
to brabon1 and 57Sky; Thanks very much for your encouraging words. For years, my mom was our church organist and on Christmas Eve at our midnight service, I would always ask her to play O Holy Night for me and she did. This year, after 3 years of practice with our quintet, I got up the courage to play it on my trumpet with piano accompaniment but the weather kept everyone including the pianist away. I'm devastated because I wanted to play it in memory of my parents. Will I have the guts again?
Sure you will. I have all the faith in the world in you...btw... my dad is still living (he's 83) but my mom passed away 10 yrs ago -- 2 wks to the day before Christmas 1999 so I know where you're coming from.
You are awesome, you have put a smile on my face. I keep thinking just maybe next year I will have the guts to try it again. I even had to transpose my music from the piano book cuz the music store didn't have the trumpet part. I hope next December I have that same drive that I had this year. It was almost an obsession and when I said I was devastated, that doesn't even come close to how horrible I felt that I had been deprived of doing something I really had my heart set on.
Our pastor and my shrink and others that know me kept telling me "well you can do it another time" and I said No, you don't understand, this was "O Holy Night" and that is when it was meant to be played and that is the only time I will play it. I guess I have another 300+ days to perfect it don't I? lol
You better believe it. Then come Christmas at the end of this year, you'll knock 'em clean outta their sox!!!!! Mom Mary and the whole gang (and me too) will all be proud of you -- btw -- I'm very proud of you right now!!!!
I can tell from your writing that you're a girl, so with that in mind, here's a big, squeezy hug to get you going. And there's plenty more where that came from.
Well shit, where'd I go wrong?? God damn it, I didn't want you to know I was a girl!! lol!!!! Just kidding-forgive the language it was just for effect but yeah, a 50 year old "girl" :-) Thank you for the big squeezy hug. I'll take all of 'em I can get. You are a sweetheart and I can tell I would really like you if I got to know you. For the record tho, I was always a "tomboy" and still am except I blew out a knee in '87 so my sports days were over. Now I'm just a parent of 21 and 19 yr o boys
That was pretty cool, i like playing high as much as the next trumpet player but there is no need to play that high, it sounds bad no matter how good you are, even when cat anderson played like that it sorta sounded bad, now maybe a triple g but thats it, lol and how would you write that in a song like high c 8v2a lol
He's a GOD.
