There is obvious love between the two, but I think it's going to take Rukia a little while to realize it. She's currently running around with Ichigo, but if you haven't noticed she pays attention to both of them. She'll say, "Hi Ichigo. Hi Renji." "Ichigo!!! Renji!" She never really ignores Renji. And in Unohana's vice-captain's dream, Rukia and Renji were in the same lamp. XD So I think a lot of people believe in that couple, but no one really speaks it out because there is Aizen and trouble.

even though IchiRuki is supposed to be a canon couple, RenRuki has so much more love behind it, and there are more scenes that show Renji's love for Rukia, while Ichigo seems to only care for her as a friend. I like both couples, but RenRuki makes a bit more sense. Plus, i'm a sucker for childhood love stories<3

I think Renji almost definitely has something for Rukia. At the very least, it's an extremely close bond. As for Rukia, it's hard to tell... I believe she once might have loved Renji (particularly in the school flashbacks) but nowadays, who knows?!

I think it's pretty clear he loves her, all his motivations are Rukia, to be stronger than Byakuya to be worthy of her, the way he looks at her, etc. However, it's clear that his love is unrequited, like Orihime's. If she ever thought of him this way at the academy, it was a known fact that after that she was in love with Kaien, and now, it all indicates she's in love with ichigo (maybe as a transference, as byakuya implied in chpt 17)

So yeah, no luck for poor renji.
