I think George Washington should have stood up for Marie Antoinette because he knew she was innocent. Instead the U.S. pocketed the money they owed France. America would not have won its Revolution without the help and alliance of France. Marie Antoinette was also an advocate for Democracy. The truth got swept into the ashes, after being obscured by Robespierre's slander campagne and Napoleon's enforced view of history. The truth must come out. The nobles of the time knew that the tabloids lied.

There is a difference between entertainment and real historical study. George Washington was a flawed but great man. You are drinking the kool aid of people who started an argument of whether or nor T Rex was a predator or scavenger. The truth is all predators are also scavengers. Yes he owned slaves. That was the way of the world at that time. African chiefs sold slaves. I don't hear about them. What were their names? In fact the business of selling slave today is alive and well in Africa and many parts of the world.

@890luckycharms Couldn't have said it better myself. It was "Might makes right." in Washington's time. Slavery is STILL in practice in Africa but the focus is always on America for having allowed slavery. Americans fought a horribly bloody and costly war, suffering over a half million dead to end slavery and unify the country but still the blame is on Americans. Only a small percentage of people in the southern states even owned slaves. Oh BTW Washington was an amazing man.

@890luckycharms He owned slaves reluctantly. He was against slaves, saying, "It's improper for one man to own another," but it was the only way he could get his farm functioning. Still, he often would work alongside his slaves when he had the time, and released them from slavery when their job was finished.
