Wow, I've seen most of these episodes, but the horrid meat pie with heads, combs, and god knows what else is the first thing to make me actually gag. Just the thought of eating that cold for a week terrifies me.
I do wonder..... if the water of London was undrinkable, yet they loved coffee and ale, how did they brew those things? Is it the boiling which made it safe? If so, couldn't they have just boiled water to drink? Maybe it didn't occur to them, just wondering.
If anyone would like to read the book, "The Gentlewoman's Companion or, a Guide to the Female Sex it is available online (full text) via Emory University. Sorry that I can't leave a link to it, just google search the title and Emory. :-)
@drewcox010101 oh, i love the series. i just don't understand the whole "skinny" aspect.
...then again, the regular to high-fat milk in the UK is VERY high-fat. it's so high-fat, it's indigestible. but calling something that's laced with caramel "skinny"? (boiled-down sugar with butter and cream added?)... it made me laugh. LOL
I think the fact that Restoration folks only drank booze because the water was too poisonous is a whole heap of poppycock. They drank themselves into absolute sodding blindness to kill their tastebuds over the bloody food they were scoffing...
...Crimminoy! How the hell did they ever convince these guys to make THIS episode?
if how we celebrate Christmas nowadays was first created in the 19th century how did people celebrate it in the 17th century....... just curious lol (:
6:35... "leaving Giles downstairs with his grules..." (followed by Giles priceless reaction to the narration).. lol.

Tansy has always been the bane of the farmer's field...it's terribly toxic to horses and cows.
