  • I think that's just your gameboy.

  • i have a 160 gb maxtor that makes a sound JUST LIKE THAT! I slammed it on the floor by accident though while it was powered.... It doesn't even spin now. :(

  • Sounds like Dial Up XD

  • death of sound eh?

  • It scared the shit out of me, no I mean serisously.

  • making a funny noise

  • >I give you the death of sound, or whatever...

    >I give you the death of sound

    >death of sound

    What?

  • HORROR SONG!!!

  • i had a problem like that man but its wasint that sound that came up it has no sound its a pain and i dont hav any money 2 buy a new hard disk so i just go into system dynamics and wait for it 2 test and then before it test the hard disk i pres esc as fast as i can so it will work harder 2 find it try it out i hope it works for u my runniing system is vista i have bin doing this for round 2weeks do u think it will damage my cpu?

  • Oh please remove garbage like this from the internet. You are producing stupid people - ever seen the movie "Idiocracy" ?

  • DEATH OF SOUND? WTF?

  • lol, this is my ringtone of my Handy ^^

  • it sounds like an old computer game!!!!!!!LOL

  • turn the spindle motor with a plier. I bet once you breakaway the adherence forces, you will be able to spin it up the HDD

  • use a cellphone ring tone....

  • there only one good use for a maxtor ring tones!!

  • is that you mobile?

  • Could just be locked because of static, with the power on, twist the hard drive or hit it with your wrist. It will unlock the drive, but it may damage the platter.

  • I have the same problem, Can i Fixed my hard drive by replacing the spindle from a new (exact same model) Diamond Max?

    Thanks

  • my hard drive is clicking. it doesn't affect the computers running, though. is it time to backup and say good bye?

  • the disk is dead

i beleve there is no way to fix that lol

  • I would also like to buy a new hard drive (SATA) but how would i know if the connection is the same to my motherbaord. Please Help.

  • Hi, I have an SATA hard drive (Maxtor) and a second SATA hard drive, but the connection to the motherboard is different from each other. Do I need a converter? Please Help.

  • @uphill248 one of them is probably E-SATA...

  • head damage

  • not head damage, the beeps mean that the spindle motor is stuck, or the heads are stuck to the platters.

  • haha,wery funny,this is a ringtone from mobile.and hardrive makes like this "TtTtT!"or "TRTTTRTTTT"

  • I've got a Maxtor too. It actually has a beeper that beeps once when you turn the hard drive on and it's running normally. That must be an error code

  • That's why I wouldn't take a Maxtor for free.......

  • Fucking Maxtor.

  • maxtor drives.. :( it is all said....

it's too late for backups... the drive cannot spin up because of the head stucked to platter

  • sounds like the heads are stuck on the platters

  • That's what I said.

"Stiction happens when the heads are knocked out of their "landing area" and onto the main part of the disk, which is so smooth the head sliders stick to them."

It's the head sliders that get stuck, not the heads.

Also, it may not be stiction at all. A seized bearing would cause an identical noise.

  • i have the same Hard Drive in my brother's pc (80gb) and it is still working fine! (the hdd it's about 6 years old)

  • sounds lika a handy xD

  • Spindle is stuck, classic Maxtor noise when this happens. Either bad bearing or stiction. Stiction happens when the heads are knocked out of their "landing area" and onto the main part of the disk, which is so smooth the head sliders stick to them.

  • Head- you can repair this

  • If that hard drive is a Maxtor 80GB DiamondMax hard drive I will be gobsmacked because I have one of those.

  • Too late for a backup, it's dead.

  • That disk is long gone. The spindle is unable to spin at all, either due to head stiction (heads are stuck to the platters) or the spindle motor itself jammed (bearings?).

Okay, now to a hard drive question. I have an older 4-gig drive, that will sometimes produce a *k-Shunk!* sound, then merrily go about its business. Backup time?

  • yes time to backup

  • BACKUP!!!

  • The phone is ringing :D

  • Im hearing some sort of scraping in my hard drive. It isn´t so loud, and it doesnt affect the computers running. So is it dangerous? To my computer, i mean.

  • ya i recommend that u backup all your data. That hard drive will be crashing in a few weeks months etc etc.

  • I dont have any important files, all from internet or disk. But i hope it doesnt affect to any other component than just hard drive, because im not gonna waste my money because of a dead hard drive.

  • @CheatEnginer Well, you know, whenever there is HDD access, you will hear scraping or grinding in the hard drive that will go away when the HDD is not being used and that is completely normal.

  • worlds worst hard drive maker im not suprised

    buy seagate

  • @JER1026 Seagate acquired Maxtor...

  • Seagate bought Maxtor...

  • ya but which name got kept and why ??

seagate cause its a better quailty and seller there were only some small parts from maxtor that came over

  • They still sell drives under the Maxtor name.

  • WD's drives are the only ones who have never let me down.

  • I just have to say this, I'm sorry...

    ... Rick Astley.

  • Hahahaha.

  • man i had the same maxtor harddrive and it did the same shit! the bullshit thing crapped out after 3 years off abuse XD (114 gig)

  • musical maxtor...... they;'d rather make music than save data.... rapping it on the table should help if not... its fubar... and setting it on fire should make one happier to watch it burn.

  • typical maxshit buy wd

  • That's a curious death sound. I've never heard that one before!

  • Comment removed

  • its a stuck spindel ..... GET A WESTERN DIGITAL

  • someone is trying to phone and fax to your hard drive.

Ok, now i'm worried and regretting getting a 500gb mathor hdd

  • HA! My new ringtone, ty, i collect weird ringtones :D

  • Your problem is that you are using a Maxtor. They're the worst drives ever made.

  • get a segate or something maxtor sux hairy dick

  • Suddenly I regret buying a 4.3GB hard drive from a flee market which costs me about £2... As much as sandwich... Which also turned out to be a Maxtor too. (27th Febuary, 1999)

  • Just means that it's shot.

  • Haha wow.

  • That sound means the disk cant spin either from bad bearing or from stuck heads.

  • is that your mobile ringing?

  • no its not. it is the real sound. i have that disk too but older one and i broke it and that sound came out. i was like o.o

  • That's the craziest sound i've ever hear a hard drive make

  • And this is why I never use Maxtor drives, they are SHIT!!! I Have had 4 over the last few years 1 got the click of death the rest randomly failed (would spin but not initialize)

  • i had one, it got bad sectors after 2 years.

  • mines sata tho

  • I got that harddrive and mine died too =[!!!

  • Sounds like those old cell phones!!!...

  • Common on those Maxtor drives. I have seen four of them like that personally and plenty of videos of them as well. It's the most musical sort of failure though!

  • Lol Wtf...random

  • LMFAO possesed by the devil hahahaahahahahaha

  • It's possessed by the devil....Microsoft do us all a favor and go Western Digital on the next XBOX

  • o.o that is a nutty death sound

  • You bot a maxtor, that's the issue here.

  • better than the hard drive i got out of my amstrad! i connected it to the PC and it made the PC stop working altogether! i removed it and the pc is fine any idea? btw the pc i am talking about is the amstrad.

  • Mine sounds like Tik tik tik tik!........... Tik tik tik tik! Then the pc freezes. Is it that my Drive is broke? Please help me!!

  • Llamo es dey de dia el veinte radios horados el huelva.

  • that a game sound lmfaob

  • I used to have a Maxtor drive, yeah, then my dad got a job......lolololololol

    (read with sarcastic voice)

  • dead of sound??? lölol

  • that was creepy. why did it make sound like music?

  • The head is stuck to the drive's surface, and the spindle can't move it. So I think it's the actuator that vibrates and creates those funny sounds. It's pretty common, look it up.

  • yeah, weird. it was musical though... ominous. like the chimes of death on macintosh

  • for me thats scary

  • Lol my drive makes 3 tones, then a kind of spring noise. They dont have speakers, thats the read heads going back and forth at a really high pith making the sound. If I leave it on for too long it heats up and starts to smell of burning solder

  • I had a Maxtor hard drive that made a high pitched, whining sound. Many people said - That means it's about to die. But no. It made that whining sound for over 5 years!

I finally replaced the motherboard, processor, fan, memory and hard drive to get rid of that whining sound! Whew, it was worth the effort.

Of course, I don't buy Maxtor hard drives. I like Samsung hard drives; They're very reliable.

  • um if u replaced all that u should have just got a new pc. duh.

  • Uhh he DID get a new PC, duh. Not everyone buys their computers from HP or Dell. Many people build their own from separate components.

  • uh hello replacing all that is worth more! including labor and all tht shit. u might as well fucking buy a new pc

  • Christ. People that buy their own parts put them together THEMSELVES. They can buy better quality parts than what HP and Dell use. It's a hobby, something people enjoy doing. Labor=$0.

A new motherboard, processor, memory and hard drive basically IS a new PC, like I said. Just because it didn't come in an HP case doesn't make it any less of a PC.

    Now go learn something, please.

  • I built my own fucking PC. It's easy.

As for talking like a retard, I'm not the one "talkin lik dis, u c how retarded it is"

  • make a vid

  • I knew how to build a computer at age 13...

  • I built a computer right after I was born. NASA now uses it in space exploration.

  • Same here BlueBajs. Its so easy, its like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Obviously jessicaburciagishot is a fucking retard.

  • its not that hard. in fact its MADD easy

  • maxtor sucks, mine turned into this same music box while sitting on my desk, i lost everything

  • death of sound lol its "sound of death" :D

  • maybe it was a GHETTO SOUND dude ;) lol

  • Surely it's a little worrying that they've put a speaker in there for when the drive fails - shouldn't that money go into stopping it failing

  • What the heck?!? Do Hard drives have built in speakers or something??

  • It's the read write arm. with coils and magnets it is like a speaker with error codes.

  • Really? Cool!

  • yeah, you know, you can turn your hard drive into a speaker. :D

  • telling you that the bearing is out or head is stuck to platter. i have 500 maxtors and i know then are very common for that. :)

  • Interesting!

  • 500? Wow! I never knew that :O

  • how long u had that hardrive for?

  • Let me translate the RD-D2 bull shit, hes saying "fuck off!!"

  • It's another "Musical Maxtor." Go get another one.

  • hm..all the maxtors seem to make the same noise...

  • the hard drive death of sound...

  • i wonder what its doing to make that sound

  • the hard disk is wiggling

  • it sounds like there is a speaker inside but there is NOT a speaker inside and it does also sound like a weired phone ringing :)

  • death of sound? lol

  • you have to buy that machine that decifrates this stupid sound

  • You should open the drive and see what it's doing.

  • No, you shouldn't...

Opening a hard drive is the last thing you want to do.

  • weird- that must be some sort of "failure code" or something- like maybe it detects a specific problem and plays a different sound depending on wtf is wrong with it

  • Yes, Maxtor and IBM Deskstar do have high rates of failure.

I don't really know about seagate, but Western Digital is my preferred brand.

  • i agree.. western digital was recommended to me by a computer store since i was buying a new hard drive.

  • Dont buy Maxtor... Unless you like the little tune of course

Maxtors also begin making click-noises like a beat box or some shit

  • If you think Maxtor hard drives are bad, try getting an IBM Deskstar. Those drives earned the name Deathstar for their very high rate of failure.

  • My guess is that the sound is due to the spindle motor oscillating at frequencies as it tries to spin up the platters but can't because of head stiction.

  • yeah, the heads are stuck, if this drive is opened, and gently helped to spin up, you MIGHT be able to get data off it!

  • Or, gently tapping the drive to release the stiction, which is the first thing that should be attempted but not before getting a brand new drive and hooking everything up to prepare to image the old drive over to the new one right when you get the old one to spin up.

Taking the cover off, IMO, is rather extreme and should be done only if there's really no other choice beside sending the drive off to a data recovery company.

  • Ahh typical Maxtor.

This would have to be at least the third Maxtor I have seen on Youtube that does this. Seems to be a defect with one of their models.

  • the sound means its old and its gone

  • disk can't spin up, buy new HDD or fix urself.

  • It is an internal defective/faulty problem with the hard drive. All this crap about it coming from the computer or elsewhere are lies. Youtube it if you don't believe me. e.g., "Musical Maxtor"

  • grr!@$#@$@^ now i gonna kill maxtor!!

  • it sounds fack but it may not be it could me a motor and /or reader fault

  • It's a "Maxtor screwed you over" sound.

  • the read and write heads are stuck to the platter i had that happen alot!

  • That's the "Musical Maxtor" failure, AFAIK.

  • what the hell? what is that sound?
