I was born in Hong Kong and was raised on HK movies. However, I can say without a doubt that South Korean cinema is currently (2010) producing some of the finest films from Asia. Thai cinema is also improving, and very entertaining to watch, but the technical camera works and special effects are not on par with SK films. SK movies are also highly commercial, with very few films that are overtly nationalistic (e.g. fearless, which always hating on Japan). I hope to see SK replaces Hollywood soon.
