Most people do genealogy because they curious about where their family came from. There is something missing inside of them that makes them wonder... who am I? Who are my ancestors? Why am I here? Every person researches for a different reason, but I will also say that researching is just plain fun. It is interesting to learn about the people who lived before us. Some people do it to learn about their medical history (which is important to know)

When dealing with difficult topics, it can be really hard - especially if those things happened in more recent times that people can remember. The key here is to be cautious, respect privacy, and be compassionate towards whoever this is effecting. When you learn of this, don't go shouting it out to the world. Keep this to yourself.

I include both adopted children and biological children in my tree, but this is up to the researcher.

This is so frustrating. I want to know more about my ancestors.. But none of my family can help. All they say is "You have a lot of native american and irish blood" No names, no history, no documents, nothing. I can't look in books because there are WAY TOO MANY people with the same last name. >_< And i can only go as far as my great grandparents..No one knows the names of anyone past them.. Can't get help from them because they all died right before i was born.

@xXWraithSoldierXx Start with what you know, put it on a pedigree chart and make sure you have sources for them so you know the information is correct. Then you can start researching!
