I live on the west coast and was born in the early 50's. We had a naval air station built in our little town (about 100 miles south of San Francisco). I grew up with full knowledge that locking up the Japanese was actually probably best for their own protection. Hatred of "Japs" was still pretty strong when I was a little kid and I can imagine the amount of violence and lynchings that would have been perpetrated against our feared and hated enemy...
