  • Love, Jimmy Ruffin!

  • Love's happiness is just an illusion,

    Filled with sadness and confusion.

  • Every day heartaches grow a little stronger,

I can't stand this pain much longer!

    I walk in shadows,

    Searching for light.

    Cold and alone,

    No comfort in sight.

  • i was born in 87

  • Lekker hoor !!

  • I heard that Fitty-Cent is going to release his version of this classic.

  • @ronetteloverz I hope not.

  • @ronetteloverz

Typical rapper. Most of them have been lyric and music/sample leeches their entire career. Why stop now?

  • @ronetteloverz if he releases his own version, i don't think i could lose any more respect for him. You can't just redo Motown.

  • They go and buy, a ship load of super glue.

I now enjoy, pain and misery.

    Bring it, on, Michael.

I enjoy a challenge, I will never stop loving you and the children, as our Love, is eternal,

I wish for you, all that you wish for yourself, all I require, in return, is full custody, of both sets, of twins.x

  • Motown and Stax were probably the best recording labels ever.

I know you will never be my boyfriend after seeing that chick on your arm in the 12th grade. Best you never knew this gay colored boy had such strong romantic feelings for you. This song reminds me of the love I could never have. But I did con you into signing my yearbook !

    BEST WISHES TOM K.

  • This song is simply a classiccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc.

  • Wow talk about memories... I just love the music that captured my soul when I was growing up in California..Music Is Not what it used to be...Not even close:(

Big Big Thumbs Up To This MAGNIFICENT GROUP " THE ORIGINAL TEMPTATIONS"!!

  • If you don't like this song... I will fight you

  • Those were the days... no iphones, no internet, just staticky AM radio with great music playing all the time!

  • I'm 61 and when I was 15 we dance our hearts out to these songs. Every Friday and then again on Saturday night. We did the Cha Cha to this one. So much fun. Guys were great dancers. Here's to growing up in the Philly region and to Chez Vous and Holy Cross weekend dances. And at 61 still dancing to these songs.

  • A fine presentation Nocaro, to this masterpiece from the golden age age of pop. Many thanks

  • @MreViewer Thanks, but actually it's one of my worst "presentations", and the only reason I haven't revised it as yet is the number of views on this one.

  • @Nocaro in that case I'm looking forward to a 'good' one then!

  • @Nocaro its wonderful!

  • Motown memories.....WOW!!!!!! TY...

  • Later covered by Paul Young in 1990 for the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. What this song had to do with it is beyound me. This is a timeless classic.

  • Used to play this and wondered what does become of the brocken hearted and then I fell in love and was brocken hearted.....I did find what happens.......In time my heart mended and met the most amazing woman......my wife.....

  • What a talented family. This song is so fantastic.

  • I love this song, one of the greats. They just don't make music like they use to with such emotion.

  • FANTASTIC STORY, LOVE THIS GREAT SONG

    GREAT MOTOWN!!

  • Had my heart broken recently . . . Just love this song! x

  • @hailstar1985 Looking for happiness in another person, more often than not, brings suffering. Once you realize that you're responsible for yourself and your own happiness in every moment of this life you can begin to live freely, never to become one of the broken hearted again. This isn't some mad religious comment or anything, I have no beliefs whatsoever in that regard, it's simply an life observation from one who has been there too and who cares about the wellbeing of others. Peace.

  • My first love and I played this song over and over the first night we met. It was magic then, it's still magic now. I'm still not over that first love, this song is embedded in my memory. In fact, I still get the shivers every time I hear it...That's what real music can do.

  • thanks eeeeeeclapclap, I heard a little Justin Beiber yesterday and almost threw up. There is no music today, real music is dead. but luckily, great songs like this one will live on...

  • A Justin Beiber Fan Disliked This Song!

  • Does anyone know if the Spinners actually recorded their own version?

  • @vinkleman I'm assuming the Spinners never recorded it.

  • @vinkleman Not Sure, but i do know The Supremes, The Contours, Smokey Robinson, and The Isley Brothers made their own version

  • @50srocknrollfan18 The Isley Brothers could certainly do this song justice.

  • the roots of love grow all around.

  • @eamonn2388 Darn right they do eamonn, and when they're dead, so are we.

  • this is a great song!!!

  • Every time I hear this, I think of The Wonder Years....I believed they played this multiple times (or almost every time Kevin gets dumped by Winnie).

  • WEhere the hell is music like this anymore?

  • I love this song , and had to listen to several videos by varied artists before i found this one-my favorite version.

  • Nancy, Nancy. Over 30 years has passed and I still pang for your love.

Where are you? I'm still here waiting for you, filled with sadness and confucion. You left me. You were my life, my soul, my everything!

What becomes of the broken-hearted? Come, take a look.

  • even though the words are depressing this song makes me happy

  • 1 dislike. what an asshole

  • @sofnsable Maybe it's not that they dislike the song, but rather they don't like the emotional wounds the words open up within their own broken heart. I've given songs a thumbs down because of the feelings the song conjured up.

  • Smooth Motown that don't make songs like this today.

  • thumb up if your recognize this from gooische vrouwen (for the dutch people)

  • everyone like this song and wat happened to him

  • Definitely in a class of it's own, great song , great singer, great production, all we have to do is enjoy a truly wonderful performance. Loved it the first time I played it and will love it to the day I die.

  • Can soul get a n y better than this??

  • To all of those saying you didn't grow up in this era. It doesn't matter, i didn't either. You don't have to be a certain age to appreciate good music.

  • What happen to him ?????? I love this song so much

  • @jane78ist Jimmy Ruffin currently lives in England and still performs.

  • @jane78ist

Just met his daughter who is working in a local pub. Will ask her when I next see her.

  • One of the finest tunes to ever come out of Motown, it just don't get any better than this.

  • Thanks so much for your reply to my comment, Rock GuitarReviews..most of today's "music" makes me want to puke, and I'm so glad YouTube helps to keep real music alive. Thanks again.

  • A great song- others have tried to cover this but Jimmy Ruffin's is still the best!

  • I was blessed enough to be able to hang with Jimmy and David both. We hung with a guy named Rod Stewart as well. I look back and it is such a shame they passed. I was only a drummer (but still a good one). I miss those days for real.

  • this song is so sad i love it

  • We go on with live, sadder but seldom wiser.....

  • amazing how a song can help you get over a cheating slag

  • @g19mulhall

What becomes of a cheating harlot, who's had cunts that turned retarded? I know I got to find..some way to make them mind maybe

  • @g19mulhall So true lol!

  • omg the best of tthe best

  • o what a fantastic cha-cha- song Love this song that brings so many memories to my life

    TIMELESS!!!!

one of my all time favorites!

  • Comment removed

  • Old song but still so great :)

  • Love it!

  • this is just pure class timeless song a gem

  • One of the GREATEST song of all times....thanks for sharing...!!!

  • The person who dislikes this song only feels that way because they are broken hearted and came here seeking some attention. They figure if they clicked on the dislike button that would get them noticed.....clear signs of a very empty life. I guess to some people negative attention is better then none at all.

  • @READY4REVELATION Fuckin awesome!!!!!

  • Fried green tomato's.....

  • A truly great ( and undrer-rated) vocalist with a classic song. The video is great. Thanks for posting.

  • Great video to a great great song!

  • I served several TDY's at Nakhon Phanom on the shores of the Mekong. My original orders were for the 603rd Air Commandos in Laos...they were overrun before I got there...went to Ubon & flew Phantoms instead. You can Google my name: Vernon Wagner. Search for: USAF Torch magazine, Oct '08, pages 5-10...one of my war stories.

  • Beautiful. No more needs to be said.

  • THIS IS HOW MUSIC SHOULD BE NOT LIKE THE SHIT TODAY

  • ohh man nice song! reminds me of the old school motown I used to listen to as a young man and im only 35 years old

  • That comment that was here a while ago about joining the army, or the marines.. yeah, totally agree.......

  • don't remember? how can one 4get it?

  • growing up in Glasgow mid 60s small faces/ the who/ motown beem me back scottie!!!!!!!!

  • @jm9407 Its just the way of what it is, we come and we go but while we are live we try to make it worthwhile, we have times of bliss then get our hearts broken. People come and go our lives and often as you grow old you remember ones that in your youth you took for granted and wonder where they are, us humans can be complicated and stupid.

  • I guess one person doesn't want to know what becomes of the brokenhearted.

  • I may be wrong, but Jimmy wasYOUNGER brother of the late , great lead singer of Temps, David :((

  • @camelguy12 Jimmy was the older brother of the late great David Ruffin...David was the Baby Boy...Gone but will never be forgotten.

  • @lovealwaysdavid ..Yes. U R correct..Jimmy was 2 years older..Both very good..but David was something else.1st time I saw Temps was late "64..Part of the Motown tour..4 tops, Contours, Stevie Wonder, etc...I wonder who'll be listening to Justin Bieber music 47 yrs. from now.. :))..

  • Oh man! I feel for whoever said "thumbs down"......they must be so broken hearted.

  • A GREAT ARTIST,A BEAUTIFUL SONG...MOTOWN-FOR LIFE X

"High Notes" On the Violin & Of Course The "Fabulous" Voice

    Of Jimmy Ruffin...........

  • 23 year old over here...this is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. I literally get chills every time I listen to it! I was totally born in the wrong decade

  • @TheRachel586 Thats so funny! Im 21 and always was told I was born in the wrong decade. I grew up with this song on almost everyday!

  • This is my favorite song in the English language.

  • This song is a masterpiece! And James Jamerson's bass line is perfect!

  • when this came out 16 year olds liked it, what makes you different

  • I can clearly remember walking into the bowling alley with my dad in the early sixties and hearing great songs just like this blasting out of the huge EV speakers suspended from the ceiling. Talk about powerful beating bass and echo!!..it was pure heaven just to sit there and listen to the music as my dad bowled with his buddies while the Motown, stax-volt and Phil Spector records played all nite long.. :)

  • ♫what becomes of the brokenhearted♫♪ esta muy hermosa esta cancion

  • This is one of my favorites from my era which had REAL music!!!! Motown forever!

  • I'm 16 and this is my favorite song.

  • REAL!

  • 18 years old, and this is the only kind of music I listen to. :) I wish I could timewarp back to the 60's...

  • jimmy ruffin never made a bad song, with a voice like that its not possible, those were the days

  • No one could ever replace the magic of this voice and song. It grabs my heart

  • Wyclef Jean samples this in his track "The Industry"

  • his brother is one of the greats . that came out of motown . a voice that only comes once in a life time.
