the mistery fleet is the elder fleet, they demaned that CONCORD keep out of a war with minmatar and amarr. The elders gave CONCORD 30 for a response and they said no. The elder fleet destroyes the CONCORD HQ and moves to Amarr to use a compound that would free minmatar slaves. The book explanes many of the events that happen in this expansion. btw great book

I would tell the story behind this but it's rather long and I'm in no mood to be typing. In short, this is what happened:

The minmatar wanted to attack the amarr because the amarr enslaved the mimmys, etc, but CONCORD wouldn't let them, so a certain someone broke away, found the elders, along with a massive fucking fleet of big ships, and threatened CONCORD that if they didn't allow it, they'd kick their asses :D

And in the defense of the Minmatar, it just shows that she knew she'd get her ass kicked if it were any other way :V

Otherwise, why would she use a superweapon that technically isn't available to normal players in the game, anyway?

true enough...but its probaly more a powerplay sorta thing..a.t the time she was supposed to be dead after she failed the hereditary trials...then she suddenly turns up with a kickass terran superweapon , destroyes a hostile fleet and saves the empire...makign herself the most important figure and becomign empress...but really thats actualy helped the mims seeing as slaverly is at its lowest ...all in the empyrean age book..wanna read that someday mysself..seems interesting

You can find it in the EVE store online, or I know Barnes and Noble carries it (that's where I got my copy). Barnes and Noble, as far as I know though, only has it in paperback.

Empyrean Age came out last year, the newsest expansions are Quantum Rise and Apocrypha.

You can join faction warfare where you and others can legally fight against each others' Empire navies, but the real fun is in 0 security systems, where PLAYER-built "empires" run things.
