I can understand the need to have some regulation. Yes, the majority do what they should, but there is an issue which does need to be addressed.
You can't take a myopic viewpoint from either side on this issue.
Just because there are problems with traditional schooling, doesn't mean you can ignore problems in H.Ed. This interview to me showed someone who is just a little too defensive and self righteous to have a balanced debate - and it is this attitude which makes the authorities nervous.
Thanks for watching and giving your views. Have you had a chance to look at the other videos here and to meet some home educating families? Also I am intrigued by your "stupidflounders" monicker!
I have. I'm quite seriously considering starting my 11-year-old in Home Ed, but am torn. I'm looking into trying to meet some Home Ed families to help me make my choice.
I totally understand and respect the viewpoints on the topic addressed above. I just feel that Ann didn't bother to address a wider picture, adding to the perception of Home Ed people being insular and a bit out of touch. A debate far more complex than YT comments will allow tho!
Great stuff. It would have been nice to have noted that of course more Home Edders are known to SS because children withdrawn from school have to notify their LA; a high proportion have special needs, etc. However, glad it wasn't me in the hot seat!
Everybody needs to put these points to their MPs right NOW!
Well done Ann! You competently demolished his spurious assertions and proved much more knowledgeable, objective and measured about the subject than he did!!! Thanks.
