  • Five people didn't give Derek their love! Thumbs up this if you agree!!!

  • Five people showed mercy to the dance floor!!!!!!1 Can I get a what what?!

  • This. Song. Is. Amazing.

  • not sure how i feel about Derek courting controversy the way he does, but i will say that this is FREAKING BRILLIANT!

  • I knew there was a racial theme! Love this song.

  • Derek said that this song is a metaphor for how the government tried to co-opt the civil rights movement in the mid to late 60's. Its hard to get it from the words obviously but there it is.

  • Jimmy = Jim Crow = Government-sanctified racism.

Jena = The Jena Six, a symbol of racial injustice in our times.

Given the context of your statement, reytimx, it kind of makes sense (I hadn't heard that about Derek's interpretation of the song): The government attempts to "shut [those fighting for equality] up" by seducing them into thinking they're fighting for the same thing...

  • This is the tragic story that happens all too often of a woman who gets drawn into a relationship with a man who just want to use her. She wants to engage in conversation about things that really matter to her but the guy "half-listens" to her mainly with intentions to bring her defenses down with alcohol and talk of "giving her love". This song has a lot of meaning for me as I've been that woman...it's a very painful experience to be treated like a play thing by a man you thought was a friend.

  • Someone suggested to me that it was about Christianity and Conservatism/the Republican Party. I am not sure I believed them.

  • I'm even more positive this is what it's about now. ;) And...hey, look, it's Tim. Funny seeing you here.

  • what exactly is this song saying?

  • You know - I was TERRIFIED when he said he was switching to techno-esque music after hearing one zero (remix). But this stuff is really pretty awesome. Good stuff, Derek. Good stuff.

  • Derek is my homeboy. Gotta say, I know he can make awesome music but I didn't know he could crank out a funky jam like this!

  • can't. stop. listening. to. this. song.

  • Loving the new sound!

  • Nine Inch Webb???
