I honestly think it's not fair that they can ban you for simply going to an island that is (as far as I understand) reachable by normal means.

You are paying Blizzard 15$ a month to play this game, so why would they kick you for simply exploring. I for one would love to walk around in GM island, but I'm not going to because I don't want to get banned.

It's honestly pompous and ass-holeish to have a place IN GAME where you get banned for going.

@yinyang452 I think the prison was for a GM to teleport an offending player so they could talk about what they did wrong and so a player could appeal a possible ban against them... I don't think that was ever kept or if they did use it they got rid of it in Vanilla wow, it was just more convenient to whisper them rather then have to teleport them somewhere.

The only way to actually see the island or the jail beneath it is to play on a private server and break the rules that the people there have setup. Either that or become a GM on a private server.

Plus, how to get to GM island when u make your own private server is to type .tele gmisland. Jail is .tele jail

The prison chamber allows player to enter, but they are then unable to leave unless teleported out by a GM. The walls are made so that you cannot jump up them like other walls in the game. (Note: Wall jumping at all is no longer possible.)

In earlier versions, this room used to contain one single chair, but it seems to be no longer present.

The purpose of this room is obviously the teleportation of players who are in violation of the game's rules. Prior to receiving a (temporary) ban, a GM might port an offender in here to further question him about the accusation or offences. This last ,however, is likely speculation, though highly probable since on rare occasions a "/who GM Island" query shows one player on it, which might not be a GM, however a GM has the power to turn his GM Status on and off by console commands.

The prison is located directly under GM island.

The chair's gameobject was called "The Chair".

Before patch 1.3 and the out-of-game chat interface, GMs would take offenders here to speak with about major offences.

Before patch 1.3, this area was scripted to make a character unable to be found using /who.

you can still get to gm island as far as i know. its FAR off the coast of booty bay. best bet would be 2 resto shamans, for waterwalk and heals. ive also heard 2 priests got there once, they were banned the second they set foot on the island.

From my understanding the "GM Cube" was used for programing reasons(Testing lighing on spells, NPC Items with lighting effects) Not as prison for players.They would just block ,ban or freezes accounts not send to this "Gm Cube"

Alot games have a test area for lighting a i think even obilvion has one. It's a control area see how new Object and spell script lighting effect in a control envererment.
