  • luv this

  • PG professional wrestling in 1980 = Awesome

PG sports entertainment in 2012 = Crap

  • Brilliant! But watch the Assassin on the door wave Lars in at 3:32..lol

  • Ole Anderson should have been world champion.

  • 10 miutes of this is better than 10years of WWE

  • "IDDDLENEVABEEEYOVA!!!"

  • I can remember this like it was yesterday. They don't make feuds like this anymore.

  • It'll nevah be ovah

  • Ole looks like a big mean tough bearded turd.

  • I'll never forget this. Great stuff.

  • Say there PopCultrestu,,do you got that LumberJack BunkHouse Match that OLE

and DUSTY had after the 8-1-80 Omni TagTeam Match vs The ANDERSONS?

That BunHouse Brawl Match was verycool.I still remember seeing it on TBS's

Saturday and Sunday's GEORGIA/WCW shows for weeks after it happend.

  • Ole Anderson and a group of guys beat up Dusty Rhodes in a cage at the Omni and nearly cause a full blown riot not once, BUT TWICE!!

  • Ole Anderson, if ya will. LOL

  • man what a classis fucking heel ole and Ivan were!!! the cheap ass heels today could learn a thing or 2 watching this gem!!!

  • Love it when Ole tells the studio crowd to give him some relief. Shut or go home or do both. Classic stuff.

  • Georgia Championship Wrestling was great! Wish the current wrestling product was just half as good as this.

  • I always liked it when Ole Anderson would yell back at the crowd. You want Dusty you want Lars, you don't know what you want!!!! Classic stuff.

  • CM Punk understands. believe me.

  • I remember watching this when it was broadcast. I was 11 years old and I was so shocked by that heel turn.

  • this was one week away from my 24thbirthday.just got out of thenavy and i remember cable finally came to my nieghboorhood. got to watch wrestling YEA!!

  • I was a 10 year old kid when I watched this in 1980. I remember how shocked i was at the turn and how I wish I was there to help Dusty.

  • @LCARLAN2

I was 11 years old and I felt the same way! Man I hated Ole for doing that.

  • Ole was a fucking terrible booker, he made the infamous Alien Maked Man angle, dumbass.

  • @sebastianhoward65 Alien Masked Man angle? What is that? are you talking about some of the "rumors" he spread on TV about Masked Superstar and/or Super Destroyer (whom he claimed WAS Superstar at first)? I recall people saying that Superstar might be an alien, but I didn't remember that it came from Ole. Was there more to it that I don't recall?

  • @sebastianhoward65 C,mon everyone can't be perfect.

  • Ole turning heel for the 4200 time.

  • I want to call that number and buy tickets for this match that happened 30 years ago. Fabulous mic work by Ole and Dusty.

  • REAL WRESTLERS and REAL STORIES LINES!!!!

  • @arobinson68 it wasn't all storyline ole and dusty never got along!

  • Ole made a great heel. Very believable

  • @TBirdSCIL-You know i agree a 100% of what you said about vince. But he dont care. All he cares about is puttin out garbage cause he know he gonna get paid for it.What he does'nt know is that wrestling when its done good and right,it is sports entertainment somewhat. It was so good back in the day that me and the guys still be talkin about it 2 this day like it just happened. We will never get it like that again cause he controls the air waves thus making it harder 4 the independents tryin 2 make it

  • What's up with Ivan Koloff's Count Fagula outfit?

  • Those were the days...

  • Question everyone! When have yall last seen a sneak attack,a promo thats was real and not forced, wrestlers talkin shit back and forth to the fans in the audience, footage of wrestlers doin outrages things but making it believable and you thought it was real, promos so good alone that they made you by the ticket to the show after seeing it,made you jump up cheerin and the opposite with anger ?We will never have it like that again because of vince! He ruined the only year around sport for us 2enjoy!!!

  • @virgo1971kw- Considering that Vince owns all this footage now, he should sit down and take a good hard look at some of this shit if he truly wants to draw money instead of running out the homogenized corporate circus he calls wrestling week after week.

  • @virgo1971kw Great post. I'm sure a lot of us agree totally.

  • LMAO @ 8:19-8:20. I HATED Ole, but he was pure gold on the microphone!

  • so im assuming Vince McMahon owns all of the footage from Georgia?

  • LOL @ Ivan lookin like a ghetto count Dracula

  • If only they'd create something like this today. Gee...

  • I used to wrestle for WCW and he was the meanest man I ever met

  • Old school wrestling when Ole was KING!

  • Ole Anderson was an evil sob

  • Yeah, he may have been playing a character, but Ole is enough of a pro at this point where it seems totally improv and unmanufactured. An artform that seems totally lost.

  • @BPavsner it's not a character thats the real ole!

  • Note the fan reaction. Stuff like that is what helped make wrestling what it was back in the day. Great Post!!

  • 3:45 mealy mouth brother .lol. Ole was a mean son of a bitch, but i wish we had more people like him in wrestling today.I put ole and harley race at the top of being the baddest toughest of al time.

  • Ole Anderson was a great heel!WWE and TNA need to be eliminated and this kind of wrestling needs to come back before i'll start watching it again.

  • This clip showed the tremenous heat the Ole got....not only in the studio, but the Omni crowd was ready to riot.He was truly one of the best heels of all time.

  • Tthis was the first episode of GCW I ever saw...cable was just introduced in the North East and this was on TBS...I saw this and loved it, watched it every week afterwards. Also loved Maniac Mark Lewin and Abdullah the Butcher...the golden age of wrestling

  • it will nevah be ovah

  • I stand corrcted . But i was going on the comment thathe was Ernie Ladd, not earnie holmes

  • I miss the golden days of wrestling, Vince McMahon has ruined wrestling!!!!!

  • Wow, Almost 30 years to the date.

  • I wasn't even a year old when this took place. It's hard to believe people bought into face Ole Anderson. He's such a natural asshole, Dusty Rhodes most have really put him over to get the crowd behind him.

  • Looks like Ron Simmons...DAMN!

  • @SouthernPride76 it was ron simmons

  • @baim64 I believe they said it was Ernie Ladd...but yeah he could pass as Ron Simmons

  • @SouthernPride76 Earnie ladd was 6 ' 10 " you can see that this guy ( a very young Ron Simmons) was not that tall , you cansee ealry pics of ernie ladd he played in the 60's for the San Diego Chargers.

  • Comment removed

  • @baim64 This guys name is Ernie Holmes.he played for the Steelers...Ron Simmons debuted in 1986..besides that,Ron has a widows peak, this guy didnt..Ron Simmons is from Warner Robins,i lived there for more than 10 years and knew his son Renard..Ernie Holmes died a few years ago..sorry but its true

  • ole's beard was awesome

  • Big Cat Ernie Ladd...LOL

  • OLE ANDERSON IS AN EVIL SONOFABITCH

  • This is the blueprint of what wrestling is supposed 2 be!!!!!The heat that the heal gets from the fans. The fans participation, the emotion, the love of the buisness!!!!!!Since 95 i havent seen any of what i just commented on from any of the wrestlers since then!True fans like me keep the memories goin with posting are vhs and beta collections cause the real wrestlin still is so good that even 20or so yrs later still gets the same reaction as it did when it originally happened!!

  • Man This is so great !! The kids giving it. Never knew it was like this !!!

  • "Ole Anderson Im gonna look at you right in the eye and Friday Night at The Omni, Payback is hell daddy!" Thats some fucking epic shit y'all!!

  • Ole a racist? Was he in character?

If so, it's like Nikolai Volkoff said about playing a Soviet. If he can get people to boo such an evil system and person, he will play the role they would have him play.

Well if I could get people to hate and boo racists, then I would play the role of a racist. Should we hate movie actors that play a racist character?

  • @mongoose704 ole is well know n as a legit racist not a character!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think I ever heard anyone in a promo make a threat at Gordon Solie until I saw this.

  • I remember watching this when I was a kid. I was 12 at the time. This brings back alot of good memories. Thanks for posting this!

  • did he just say ".. to out-FUCK dusty rhodes"

    lol

  • Did Ole Anderson actually say "fuck" on the air? It sounded to me like he did.

  • Today, GREAT heels like Ole barely exists because no one emotionally invests in the product anymore or has the ability to make the fans really hate you.

CM Punk is the best thing in wrestling right now. The guy works his ass off to get legit angry reactions from fans in a era where almost everyone is inside to the business. He is like the Gino Hernandez of this generation. He annoys and makes you hate him so bad you wanna buy a ticket to see him get his ass kicked.

  • @RSXemperor

People will hate to admit it but Triple H is also a good heel. His "I'm better than you" attitude is one of the few gimmicks that can get real heat.

  • @RSXemperor And you are correct. It is DAMN hard to get real heat today. The Mr McMahon character was one that could. The arrogant, filthy rich, dictatorial boss that everyone has and hates.

  • @RSXemperor

Add Tully Blanchard to the list.He said fans hated him so much that the fans would pay to see him get his ass kicked.

  • @RSXemperor Punk can't touch Ole in drawing heat. Punk is ok but he isn't the best by no means

  • @RSXemperor This is a very accurate depiction.

  • Where did they buy that cage from, Home Depot or Lowe's?

  • Why climb the cage when the door was open?

  • August 1, 1980 (Friday) Atlanta, GA Omni Coliseum [P] (Paul Jones (01) Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Charlie Fulton over Chavo Guerrero > Jay Strongbow over Dutch Mantell > Dennis Condrey & Stan Lane over Steve Regal (01) & Terry Taylor > Steve Keirn over Alexis Smirnoff > Lars Anderson over Assassin #1 (02) >

  • Mr. Wrestling #2 (01) versus Baron Von Raschke ended in a no contest > Stan Hansen versus Abdullah the Butcher ended in a no contest > Boston Street Fight Match: Kevin Sullivan over Mark Lewin > Dusty Rhodes & Andre the Giant over Ole Anderson & Gene Anderson / Notes: Guerrero substituted for Big Red in the match against Fulton. The Great Mephisto managed Lewin.

  • July 20, 1980 (Sunday) Atlanta, GA Omni Coliseum [P] (Paul Jones (01) Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Dennis Condrey & Bob Sweetan over Mike George & Steve Regal (01) > Alexis Smirnoff over Charles Buffong > Chavo Guerrero over Dutch Mantell

  • > NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title Match: Les Thornton* over Steve Keirn > Mr. Wrestling #2 (01) over Ivan Koloff > Mark Lewin & Abdullah the Butcher over Stan Hansen & Kevin Sullivan > Texas Death Match: Tony Atlas over Baron Von Raschke > Cage Match: Dusty Rhodes & Ole Anderson versus the Assassins (02) (Assassin #1 (02) & Assassin #2 (02)) ended in a no contest >

  • NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Harley Race* over Tommy Rich / Notes: The Great Mephisto managed Lewin and Abdullah. Lou Thesz was the special referee for the Race-Rich match. Koloff and Gene Anderson were the special referees for the Rhodes/Anderson-Assassins match. The match was ended in a no contest when Ole Anderson turned on Rhodes, leading to a five-on-one assault, nearly causing a riot among fans.

  • This was huge news for a 11 yr old kid and his friends to watch on TV. I remember how upset me & my friends were. GCW did the whole two hour show on the big turn with all the wrestlers making comments. I can't remember a better promo than this. What a great time for kids to be able to watch wrestling and get excited about it. Say what you want about Ole but he really loves to get under people's skin. Great days-great memories!!

  • the omni was the place!!!everything happened in that arena!!!!Man i wish i grew up in Atlanta around that time!!!!!would have been at every wrestling show!!!!

  • @virgo1971kw

Yep, the Omni was considered by many to be the mecca of the south as far as wrestling was concerned; that crowd would damn near come out of the stands when a big heel turn took place. Home of the Turn of '80, Flair's turn on Dusty, the first Wargames....

  • I was 10 years old when i saw this on TBS as it was 1st run. I remember thinking if i was at the Omni how i would have done what I could to help Dusty. Hey i was only 10.....

  • this was 4 years before i was born but i wish i was around to be watching these years

  • I remember having a argument with a Ric Flair mark about how I thought Ole was much better on the mike than Flair--to me Flair was as repetitive in his heel promos as he was in many of his matches.

    Woo!

  • Good stuff. NWA in the 1980s was the best. Most of the big WWF stars came from the territories and built that company.

  • i remember this. i really was a big turn around in GCW.

  • thought that was Ron Simmons at first

  • i remember Ole talking about his tag partner Gene Anderson when Gene got whacked in the mouth by one of Wahoo's chops. Knocked all his teeth sideways. Gene Anderson finished the match, went to the hotel room and slept. then the next morning he went to the dentist. TOUGH!

  • @foreverhulkamania And Matt Cappoletti wanted to bitch about Hardcore Holly giving him a bloody nose on Tough Enough. The Undertaker told him in private that if a bloody nose gets him upset, then he's in the wrong business. I wonder how he's doing now. He was suffering from a brain tumor.

  • Ernie Ladd, i believe.

Ole is one of the best villans in history

  • Ernie Ladd was a legitimate 6'9". The dude that Ole is verbally sparing with is Ernie Holmes, former Pittsburgh Steeler great who died about 2 years ago.

  • my bad 8^)>

  • Ernie ladd was distintive looking.., on another note Ernie ladd was Dustys Inspiration in the way he talks..

  • This is a cool video. Was that Ron Simmons that Ole Anderson was verbally sparring with at the beginning of the video?

    Ken Palmer

  • When a heel turn meant something. Today you have turns every week. So often that they mean nothing.

  • This here is what made WRESTLING a

Sport and Sprts Entertainment. vince jr

has flushed it down the shiter. There is a

turn-around thoe! Bolth NWA and AWA are

back,ROH is strong.Ed Faret Jr braught

Detroit WRESTLING back on cable tv.&

Greg Gane has his GWA School.

  • Where is the video of Assassins beating

down on Dusty,he then gets Freddy Millier

to get Ole to be his tagteam partner in the

Cage TagTeam Match?I'm sick of ytbers

that put just ittle bits of GEORGIA-WCW

up and say they don't got more.Bull-S.

  • Koloff's promo was awesome.

  • Ole's right. Rhodes said it himself it will never be over. So he got what he paid for when he made Ole a partner

  • damn straight!!!

dusty got the boot to the mouth repeatedly!!!!

  • Ole is one of the top 5 heels ever!! The feud with Dusty seemed to last forever.

  • Despite a lot of other overhyped guys of that era anybody who watched Georgia or Mid-Atlantic wrestling back then KNEW Ole was really the most hated guy in the industry. Only Piper or maybe Terry Funk could generate that level of heat...

  • Here,here EJ, I want to see Dusty/Andre

vs The Anddersons. I also want to that

big BunckHouse Brawl match that Dusty

Ole had after this.I saw their Brawl match

    for weeks on bolth Saturday&Sunday

shows on TBS the Summer of '80.

  • Not THIS is how you generate heat. I mean Ole Anderson had soooo much heat on him it's a wonder he's still alive lol

  • prob helps that everyone pretty much agrees that ole is a legit asshole and acording to teddy long was a bit of a racist with the way he use to refer to some of the black wrestlers in the early 80s

  • Yeah, I never heard Teddy Long actually say this but by some accounts like you said, Ole did come across a bit racist. But be that as it may, he was a helluva talent and booker the likes of which may never be seen again.

  • just remember this "helluva booker" gave us the shitty ass black scropion gimmick back in 1990 and was part of that lovely Shockmaster stunt, course that one was dusty's idea but still ole had a hand in it as well.. as far as bookers are concerned ill stick to either gary hart or paul heyman

  • Okay, I'll give you Hart, but as far as Heyman, I mean, yeah he was a good booker, great??? IMO I'm not too sure. Doesn't mean he wasn't great, just feel that I'd go w/Hart 1st, Ole 2nd and Heyman 3rd. But you're right, Shockmaster had Dusty all over it lol

  • To Paul Heyman's credit,he booked WWE's PPV from June 2000 to April 2001(He booked the entire WM17 PPV)he gave Y2J & Benoit their respective pushes as well.He stopped booking because of Miss Thang Stephanie McMahon because she wanted to change shit to her liking.

  • word...some of the worst writing ever!!!!!!!

  • Well, he is talented, but the problem was that he was too old-school and regional to book a big company like WCW

  • well anybody who is good is bound to make a few mistakes right? ole was awesome as a Horseman too!

  • Arn Anderson even said this in an interview. He said that Ole was a great booker & he had tunnel vision. He also said that he was a tyrant & a racist

  • I wish Vince would start airing Georgia Championship Wrestling and start with this angle. I mean, think of all the greats who wrestled in Atlanta around 1979-1983. Wow.

  • The heat Ole could generate!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ole anderson look like the german killer hans jürgen rösner from 1988.

  • yeah way cool !! at the time of this I had not yet bought a VCR, otherwise I wouldve had a record of this episode..

I remember this entrire interview..brings it back!!

  • Seriously, I never liked Ole that much, but I only started watching in 85. I just became an Ole fan....what a promo.....

  • To this current day, this was the greatest heel turn/double cross in wrestling. I remember this well. Everyone seemed to hate Dusty Rhodes/Dirty Rhodes as Ernie Ladd once called him.. Great time in wrestling..

  • great stuff from ole. fuck the wwe or wwf or whatever in the fuck it goes under these days

  • Where were you at this point sir?

Uh, I was in the corner because it was tag team match.

  • This is blasphemy coming from such a Blackjack Mulligan mark as myself, but I think this interview's even better than Mulligan's in the "Hat and Robe" angle.

  • Ladies and gentleman I present to you: PRO WRESTLING AT ITS VERY BEST!!!!!!! I challenge ANYBODY, ANYBODY to disagree with me on that!!!!!!!

  • There IS no disagreement cause anybody who does JUST DOESN'T GET IT!

  • @ddrock23

    agreed!!!!!!!!

  • @ddrock23 have to admit this is good stuff...was a wwwf fan but we loved reading about this stuff

  • @ddrock23

angles like this were pure gold back in the day.

  • @ddrock23 : Ur darn right daddy! xo[

  • I know Ole isn't the nicest guy in the world, but damn he cut an awesome promo here...as did Dusty of course, but we all know he's great. Ole was great here though.

  • Random Ole Anderson promo that's better than anything The Rock ever did

  • "You want Dusty, You want Lars, You don't know who you want."

    HAHA

  • great clip

    "Judas comments from Ole"

    rflao

  • Wow, Ron Simmons was already losing his hair 30 years ago.

  • That was Ernie Holmes. The do look ALOT alike however.

  • 3:16 - How have people ignored that people were trying to climb the cage to stop the heel turn from happening?!? A dude in bell-bottoms gets decked by one of the Assassins!

  • Like how the Assassians are like "what the hell?" then just shrug and join in the beatdown.

  • When it comes to promos Dusty would run circles around ANYONE today. For any WWE mark out there that honestly thinks the garbage today can compare, I can recite a promo I only saw once 29 years ago (This thing will never be over) WORD FOR WORD, can you recite even ONE promo from last week's Raw?

  • I wish some WWE mark would come on here and start talkin about how cena, orton, batista, or whoever is so awesome. They're not even in the same league as guys like Dusty and Ole.

  • Ole was pretty good on the mic! as a matter of fact interviews were way better in those days! Everything about wrestling sucks now except the elimination chamber!

  • Do anyone here can find an old commercial of Dusty Rhodes for Standback or BC headache powders? He was the first wrestlers (long before Hulk Hogan) to ever do a commercial for national brand products.

  • I love watching Dirty Rhodes get his ass kicked.

  • me too

  • Just about the best heel turn angle ever. Ole and Dusty hatched this a year before it happened.

  • So calculative! They don't make em like this anymore!

  • You got that right. I miss the regional days.

  • Kayfabe-forever, Sports Entertainment- please end it forever...

  • vintage. the new folks watching wrestling these days just don't have a clue how cool it was to see this stuff on TBS a few days after it happened at the omni...great stuff

  • Ole and Arn Anderson made me hate them. They played the heel so perfectly. Now that was great acting. Todays wrestlers just dont have that passion, that drive to keep you entertained like these guys of yester-days. True Classic legends here.

  • DAYUM!!! I remember watching this clip on TV. Ole could sell me beachfront property in Arizona. That was so convincing with the Koloff/Dusty interviews. I loved to hate the Andersons back in the day. Hella story lines. No divas, T&A crap, just wrasslin'. TNT should re-run GCW on Saturdays at 6. Peace!!

  • Koloff is funny as hell in his interview. " I had such joy such pleasure in my heart. My blood ran with such warmth....LOL...."

    The good ol days!

  • I agree 100%, Ivan Koloff was great in this interview! His way with words is so funny! And Ole was hilariously brutal here too. Love this clip, best wrestling clip I've ever seen!

  • Now I want to go see Dusty/Andre vs. the Andersons. Are tickets still available for the 8/1 Omni show?

  • stay outrta wrestling Ron, DAMN!

  • Ole was someone you just loved to hate and prolly is one of the greatest heals of all time. He got stabbed in the back by a little old lady because of it.

  • @omegared272 He was stabbed across his chest in Greenville, SC. I have also heard that some fans jumped him in Augusta, GA and one hit him in the head with a tire iron.

  • I wish orton, the legacy, hhh, hbk, y2j,taker,and edge would fuck up cena just like dusty got fucked up.

  • LOL, I'd want to add Batista to that list of guys to fuck up. The guy botches moves left, right, and center

  • This is proof that wrestling now is garbage! I remember seeing this clip in elementary school when I was visiting my great grandmother in GA (R.I.P) Look at all the heat the heels were getting! People throwing things in the ring and everthing! Territories were the best and they made wrestling. To hell with these current 5 minute story lines for people with ADD! Story lines used to last a damn year!

  • Preach on! Feuds back then lasted MONTHS, not just one neat show. McMahon and the WWE are crap now

  • and more often than not, carried on for 10 years or more depending on if the guys ran into each other down the road. this was the best stuff.

  • Love the Assassians' reaction, one scratching his head, the other waving hands like "the hell?" then they just both shrug and join in.

  • Koloff just couldn't believe it so he had to join in and start KICKING

    Hes so happy
