I remember seeing these uncensored on TV in the 80s. I especially remember Scholz in the first cartoon. Hell, they were still MAKING stuff like this in the 80s; Count Duckula.
I may be a liberal, but even I'm getting sick of all this politically correct "think of the children" tight censorship BS. We've become so wishy-washed & bleached that even Animaniacs is now deemed as inappropriate for children.
They showed these WWII cartoons to adults in the evening shows because the humor was a little advanced for the kids. By making fun of the enemy, you minimize the fear of him. That's why they showed characatures of the Japanese (slant eyes and buck teeth) being kicked around by Superman.
Damn, those cartoons from many decades ago were something serious besides all this propaganda, they were well made, not like todays cartoos are nothing but brainless crap, such sponge bob,
There was a war on. Studios would never have the stones to make something like this these days. Have Bin Laden and Mohammed in it and they would no doubt have a fatwa out within minutes.
Well Warner Brothers has it out on a 4 disk DVD collection 'Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6' which has several WW2 cartoons it goes for around $50,
you can probably find bootleg style DVDs with inferior picture and audio quality at a cheaper price however.
i can probably find it on NETFLIX or at the library-check out my video "Politically Incorrect Daffy Duck cartoon. 16mm film festival. MICHAEL HANSEN" and can anybody tell me if this is on DVD anywhere also???
A large chunk of them are, if it's a choice between one of those $1.00-$5.00 DVD's which you can find at any Walgreens and my Looney Toons Golden Collection set with a pristine remastered picture and sound not to mention audio commentary,
God forbid we offend a party that killed millions. I mean aswell as the fact that they wanted a arron race. If I didn't like the video in generally I would rate 1 star but since I like people making fun of the NAZIS i rated 5.
@cscmole thats for everybody else. there are a series of cartoons made during an era that are considered 'politically incorrect", ect... (this is not the only one) considering when they would show these on tv in the 90's, editing off the more violent parts....there are comp.s dvd's for this...
as with everyother video on here about loonie toon and 50s-80s cartoons being "racist or un-pc" pc is stupid and just a way of stopping free speach anyway but as usual alot of fuss over nothing.
Kryygore and Sonyas13...very well put! And this has happened throughout history...I wish alot of people would actually read a history book or do some research before posting an unwaranted opinion...based entirely on emotion (or even ignorance). Agreed?
I would also put it that the purpose of this toon was to belittle and ridicule Hitler something that most people back then would have had no trouble with.
fuck all of you. it was great to make fun of people back then, because there were less DIFFERENT people to bitch about it. so everyone shut the fuck up. it still is fuckin' funny. it was all about the gags then. watch a cartoon now and try to laugh. good luck.
yeah man like... I'm sorry For something I didn't do Lynched somebody But I don't know who You blame me for slavery A hundred years before I was born Guilty of being white I'm a convict Of a racist crime I've only served 19 years of my time Guilty of being white!!!!!!
Cartoons and films like this made in the early 40's were a deliberate attempt to rally American support to end the pre-war isolationist sentiment and later during the war to encourage support of our war policies by encouraging an "us vs. them" mentality. The negative characterization is because it's a lot easier to support killing the enemy when we dehumanize them. I'm not saying it's right or wrong so don't flame - it just happens to be a topic I find interesting and am reading about right now.
@DJRizzo There is no other option in dealing with murderious drones like Nazis than to take an "us vs. them" tact, unless you think that all the people the Nazis killed deserved to die.
"this doesnt happen today???? family guy, south park? ... need i say more?"
The point is that this was a kid's show. But I wouldn't say this is politically incorrect or wrong. It doesn't intend to mock Germans - just Nazis, and you can't purport that Nazis don't fully deserve it!
This isn't as politically incorrect as "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips." that was terribly racist. If American cartoons were to show middle eastern people in such a demeaning manner, it would cause a worldwide uproar.
Don't worry, the islamofacists are their own worst press. They don't need any help. Suicide bomb, kill, remove more heads, and then wonder why less and less people distrust them
If we had kept out of the middle east, we wouldn't HAVE "islamofascists" to worry about in the first place. WE are the ones pissing them off. Nobody becomes "evil" for no reason.
I'm sorry but comparing islamofascists to japanese people (because I was talking about the japanese in 'Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips') is pretty damn ignorant. Yes its alright to degrade those that cause harm and attack people (as the nazi's did) but I'm just saying that you shouldn't make fun of an entire race of people for what some terrible people do.
to ghandithegman: all that kind of censorship came up after WW2. this kind of "racism" was a sign of patriotism during the time. and people DO make fun of middle easterns nowadays, so this isn't as barbaric as it seems. it's still wrong, but it's not unheard of, even today.
Yes it isn't barbaric but it's still wrong. It shouldn't have been happening in the 40s and it shouldn't be happening now. Also patriatism is very good in some instances (love for ones country) but can cause cruel things in other instances. I don't know...I just don't want the world to be repeating past mistakes although we always do.
I remember watching a VHS of this episode of this when I was little...
Looking at it now that I'm older, I am so glad that our media isn't like it was back then. This isn't "un-PC", it's unconstitutional. This is obviously propaganda aimed for families...
Making fun of the Nazis is kinda like mocking the Jews because if we think the Nazis are just a bunch of idiots, then that means that the Jews were almost completely wiped out by a bunch of idiots... make sense?

666deadman1988 3 years ago 2
It's just American propaganda.
It's necessary during times of war.
If we saw the enemy as "just like us"
we wouldn't be as willing to fight them.
We HAVE to belittle the enemy.
We have to make ourselves appear superior,
or else the battle is lost.
Just an opinion.
Kryygore 3 years ago 6
Its true.
To fight someone you have to Dehumanize them.
Look at them as not human, or beast
But something that needs to be destroyed.
We rarely think of killing the innocent, and mask it with the term "collateral damage"
Instead of innocent death.
Its the only way that war can work,
is with masks and facades.
