I remember seeing these uncensored on TV in the 80s. I especially remember Scholz in the first cartoon. Hell, they were still MAKING stuff like this in the 80s; Count Duckula.

I may be a liberal, but even I'm getting sick of all this politically correct "think of the children" tight censorship BS. We've become so wishy-washed & bleached that even Animaniacs is now deemed as inappropriate for children.

They showed these WWII cartoons to adults in the evening shows because the humor was a little advanced for the kids. By making fun of the enemy, you minimize the fear of him. That's why they showed characatures of the Japanese (slant eyes and buck teeth) being kicked around by Superman.

Well Warner Brothers has it out on a 4 disk DVD collection 'Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6' which has several WW2 cartoons it goes for around $50,

you can probably find bootleg style DVDs with inferior picture and audio quality at a cheaper price however.

A large chunk of them are, if it's a choice between one of those $1.00-$5.00 DVD's which you can find at any Walgreens and my Looney Toons Golden Collection set with a pristine remastered picture and sound not to mention audio commentary,

In the UK in the early 1990s this was released on a cheap VHS. It was a Daffy Duck collection but it was not licenced by Warner Bros.

Cartoons and films like this made in the early 40's were a deliberate attempt to rally American support to end the pre-war isolationist sentiment and later during the war to encourage support of our war policies by encouraging an "us vs. them" mentality. The negative characterization is because it's a lot easier to support killing the enemy when we dehumanize them. I'm not saying it's right or wrong so don't flame - it just happens to be a topic I find interesting and am reading about right now.
