Ingrid was not only beautiful, but insanely talented. She spoke like 5 languanges, she could sing (not many people knew that), and she was obviously a talented pianist..
@mozartman2000 Good gravy, the actors are not actually playing! I can't stand watching fake playing. They may have learned enough to not look entirely ridiculous in their faking, as Emily Watson did on cello. The violin part was recorded by Toscha Seidel, I don't know who the pianist was. I've wondered what it's like being on set where you can here the actor's dramatically pounding random notes to be dubbed over.
I checked for this clip a while back and i wasn't here. I was delighted to see it now. When I first saw this on TV my jaw dropped. I understand Bergman was actually an accomplished pianist.
Even though this isn't CASABLANCA, a lesser Bergman film is still hugely enjoyable because of her radiant presence. Everything she touches turns to gold.
Yes, it was prerecorded, but all her fingerings were correct. Thus they were able to show her hands, unlike many other movies in which actors 'played' the piano where they could only show their face or shoot from behind the piano.
wonderful movie that I saw in Youtube of your uploaded^^
Thank's^^

FYI - both Bergman and Howard learned to play the music on their respective instruments just for the film. No body doubles here!

Leonard Martin calls this movie "short and sweet". Bergman looks ravishingly radiant in her 1st American film.

She was actually an accomplished pianist. They just don't make them like that anymore, do they? :)

So true... she also spoke five languages...
Today bleached and blonde calendar girls pass for actresses, the only thing that's emphasized is "sex appeal," not actual talent... sad.

Exactly! Back then you actually had to HAVE talent to make it in the business. This my friends is why I watch mainly old movies.
