A total and utter legend. One of my favourites. Love when he steps on the pedal to give the tone change near the end. Thanks Stevie (and Double Trouble!)
Not only is this how you play guitar, but it's also how you play bass and drums. Tommy and Chris are the best kickass rythym section you could ask for.
Man. People go crazy on here for stupid shit. Who cares who did what man? Stevie was NEVER cocky or uptight about his playing. Stevie was a HUGE fan of Jimi. So who cares who did what first or who likes what better. Just dig it if you do and don't if you don't. No need in negativity when most of these comments are opinion based anyway. Just chill. Jimi and Stevie both would think it's fucked up that people would argue like this over music when music is about love. Peace. -Cody Lee Meece
@9timesnine I just don't understand why you are bringing up Jimi's name to this vid? If you want to tell the world whose fan he was, do start with the most important to him, Albert King
@Jesrama1 I guess cause some poeple on here was talkin bout Jimi. I aint turnin this into a contest of who knows more. Stevie got all his soul and boxes from Albert but he got his flare from Jimi. I aint gonna do this thing where we dispute points and facts to each other back and forth man. Just stating my opinion which everybody should learn NOT to do on youtube because somebody always wants to prove you wrong. So fuck it. Later.
@9timesnine The whole point of leaving comments on these pages is to allow people to speak free. I neither want to argue nor to contest your opinion; you can live with it forever.
In my opinion no one can take their soul from another man and if you don't have the flare by birth you'll never have it anyway

Then he would give us a great big Stevie Ray Smile and add, "He's been teaching me some new riffs!!!"
Thing about music is that if you have to think about, you more than likely have it wrong.. Music is all about expression and emotion. How Stevie played was the right way, that's why all of his music is so good. It's just right. The End.
The bassist is making a concerted effort to keep his jaw off the floor, while stevie shreds with his eyes half closed. There has been absolutely no guitarist that is the equal of stevie ray vaughan. Move over Jimi, sit down clapton, and take a hike B.B, cause Mr. Vaughan is here to show you how its done.
When I was 12 years old I was learning to play guitar, I only knew a few guitarrist, once I went to a dvd store and I saw this dvd called : "Stevie ray vaughan live at the mocambo" this song was first, I didn't knew who Stevie was, when I heard this song it fuckin change my life.

@buddy guy was the best, Any one Got the Stone crazy Album if u dont get it put on the song (when I first left home, lay back and let it take over your emotions. BG was a major influence on both hendrix and stevie. he was playing the same concert with stevie the day he died, But even buddy said Steve R V was the best he has ever heard
everyone who tries to compare srv to hendrix obviously havent listen to much of either. they are completely different guitarists. and stop trying to dumb down hendrix too....the guy invented the use of the modern electric guitar and did things with it that even srv couldnt do..that being said, srv does some things jimi couldnt too. theyre both great
@YanksFan162 It's always Hendrix fans that do the comparing. They are on every SRV vid, not allowing people a personal choice, yelling "Jimi's the best ever" and "Without Jimi there would be no Stevie". Both claims are utterly retarded and over the time those overenthusiastic Hendrix admirers get tiresome and often provoke counter-hostility. Frankly, I've never seen SRV fans belittling Hendrix on Hendrix related pages. The opposite is in process all the time no matter how different both were
@Jesrama1 Hendrix was influential, he was a sloppy guitarist, he wasn't really an excellent one, I love Hendrix, but you gotta speak the truth, and that's the truth.
@vallecaucano114 man, what makes a good guitarrist? only technique? Soulfull and emotion playing is what puts jimi as the greatest; he was one with his guitar and it was pure magik.
and btw i don't agree he was a "sloppy guitarrist" he had a great technique, but its hard to play while trippin on LSD
@icps86 See, I was going to mention how what Hendrix had over most people was how much emotion and creativity he had, but i got lazy, so believe when i say this, I agree with you, but, his technique was really not that awesome, he was just really really innovative, and I think that's what made him so good.
@vallecaucano114 Stevie had flawless technique but many have. That’s not what he had over other 80s players. It was his emotional playing first and foremost. Some critics even complained about him being "over the top". Hendrix was innovative and courageous enough to do what he felt like doing on his guitar and back in his day that's what he had over his peers. He inspired many guitarists to feel free to experiment hence he's reputation of the most influential guitarist
@icps86 Mate, if SRV got any fame as a guitarist, it was not because of technique but because of his unmatched passionate soulful playing. Hendrix was pretty experimental and hat’s what makes most of his reputation. Hendrix mostly engages my ears. Every note Stevie plays hits my soul. Never experienced anybody like him to this very day. BTW, there is no such creature as "the greatest”; not in music at least. It's all opinion and preference and more or less prejudice
@icps86 yeh buy SRV was a big time drug addict at first and he still wasnt sloppy, i think the guitar was his third arm, he how it worked and how to make it sound perfect, Hendrix was great but i think SRV was better, hendrix was just the first to expierience with Blues/rock, but SRV took that to a whole 'nother level.
Trying to compare Hendrix and Vaughan and sayin one is better than the other is stupid, they are two different playing styles. Vaughan is no Hendrix, and Hendrix is no Vaughan, so ya'll shut up
Some guitarists look like they're working hard at it, while some look like they were born with a guitar in their hands; Stevie's definitely in the latter group. He's in my top 5 favorite guitar players; definitely my favorite blues player. It's sad that he was taken from us so early...
in every song he's telling you your blind to the real world. don't just stand there and let shit happen!! school is teaching you what they want you to learn. just like a robot. try to do something new everyday. what ever you think. do it for your self even if it scares you to death. because thats how you learn. not by reading but by doing. tell me what has antidisestablishmentarianism every done for you? think about it. you do what they want if you don't your nothing. everyone dies alone
I went to school and studied civil engineering. I'm glad they taught me what they wanted me to know. And I don't feel like a robot. I'm glad I learned by reading before I started doing because if I did it your way many could be dead by now...and that thought scares me to death
well as usual ,some folks seem to act like children when they post hate and discourse .i wonder if the late and great SRV WOULD FEEL THE SAME WAY SOME OF THE COMMENT ,S POSTED REFLECT ? OPINIONS ARE LIKE SMOKE IN THE WIND ,AND THE TRUE SPIRIT OF LOVE SHALL WIN . SO WITH THAT SAID ,JUST LISTEN TO MUSIC AND BE HAPPY AND THE REST WILL WORK OUT . SO SAYS OLDMANBUSA
@theguitarlegend53 - I don't know if you were referring to SRV on you commenting on "Personally, I Eddie Van Halen smokes them both." but if so you're smoke some whack ass fucking drugs bro !! If not then I'm off.. im a little off my game with this Vodka..
Accually double trouble is known as the best rythym section alive. And its true. They hold everything perfect. And stevie(best guitarist ever) put the icing on the cake. Best musicians who ever lived right there.
Greetings fellow SRV fans. Y'all need to check out the first video on my favorites page to read what the user named "yovioleatuzorramadre" says of SRV. Unbelievable...
I feel sorry for your boyfriend, girlfriend, mommy, whoever you fucking bug all their life long, still not right, still not right, I AM, like a little kid. Your IQ I know not quite double digits, you still have enough gray matter to sponge this up....I merely made a statement, then ya wanted history, then I don;t know Stevie,ya wanted facts gave ya those, not enough. I'd look you in the eye, never mind, I'm sure you see plenty of one-eyes! Up close and in your mouth, so you shut the fuck up!SRV
God damn SRV live sounds almost fake and recorded he is that good.. SRV is about the only artist I would actually kill someone for the right to meet god !! I know there are a lot of great guitarists out there but what I was brought up on SRV to me will be the best guitarist who ever lived and I don't think many could argue with that.
My God you don't quit, I was not implying Jimi was only, or "main" influence, just proving my point that in the context of Jimi(egg or chicken), which came first. Yes I have seen Stevie play with a large black man, who played a Flying V upside down. You jump around more than jumping bean, just asking for something to argue about, why!!!!! I love Stevie, remember he's my favorite too, you just aren't the only man who knows a thing or two about him. What next plaster caster, dimensions,seek help!
It's about facts not about who your favorite player is. I don’t give half a frog about that. As for the quitting, I never made a vow to quit on your wish. And you're still there, too. The difference is that when I talk to you I do address you while you act like those queers who when speaking to someone don't have the guts to look’em in the eye
Buddy Guy has been called the bridge between the blues and rock and roll. He is one of the historic links between Chicago electric blues pioneers Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf and popular musicians like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page as well as later revivalists like Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan stated that, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."
Jimi dead in Sept. 18, 1970, Stevie was 15 yrs. old. Stevie and Double Trouble release Texas Flood on June 13th 1983, with the help of Jackson Browne. I guess Stevie was secretly promoting Jimis venues and public relations at 15. Amazing what history you learn, I would have never known that. I can't believe I've sunk to this level, but please dont tell me shit I already know, and obviously, you do not! How can a 15 yr. old do anything for a guitar hero, who was already gone. Amazing! Last post!
Save it. Your fundamental mistake is that you are overplaying Hendrix influence. He started playing the guitar influenced by "my brother and the blues" (quote). Another time he said "while the other kids listened to the 60s guitar gods (guess who those were) my brother and I listened to the old Blues masters". Everybody knowing a bit about Stevie knows his main hero and influence was Albert King. Hendrix was an influence too, like "every guitar player I've ever heard" (quote)
jimi couldnt play like that if he had lived to be 100 but the guy was a pioneer and an awesome guitar player so its not like the guy was shit... but i mean to compare him to stevie.... idk man seems pretty silly to me... not even in the same ballpark man.
Just for the record, I think Stevie was a guitar God, I'm actually saying he is "my" favorite guitar player of all time! So no more arguments from me, but I do know a thing or two about the man, and his music! Done!
oh hello testify people .......you people need help, ..i need help......S.R.V. clinic for help. srv adddicts only......hit thumbs up for the survey,and suppport.......
Jimi and Stevie both would be ashamed of the pissing contest you guys are putting on! Stevie loved Jimi, Jimi loved everyone! Jimi opened the door, Stevie came through 6-strings blazing! I can't believe I am actually writing this, give it a break, and turn it up!!!!!
I see your good intentions but for the sake of factual accuracy...it wasn't Jimi who "opened the door" for Stevie; the number of people commenting on SRV without knowing the first thing about him and without even realizing the link between him and Hendrix never ceases to amaze me
@5507156693 Lets see Jimi was famous and dead, before anyone had heard of Stevie commercially, that's what I meant, can't just go changing history because ya feel like it!

everyone who tries to compare srv to hendrix obviously havent listen to much of either. they are completely different guitarists. and stop trying to dumb down hendrix too....the guy invented the use of the modern electric guitar and did things with it that even srv couldnt do..that being said, srv does some things jimi couldnt too. theyre both great
YanksFan162 7 months ago 3
@YanksFan162 It's always Hendrix fans that do the comparing. They are on every SRV vid, not allowing people a personal choice, yelling "Jimi's the best ever" and "Without Jimi there would be no Stevie". Both claims are utterly retarded and over the time those overenthusiastic Hendrix admirers get tiresome and often provoke counter-hostility. Frankly, I've never seen SRV fans belittling Hendrix on Hendrix related pages. The opposite is in process all the time no matter how different both were
Jesrama1 7 months ago 6
@Jesrama1 Hendrix was influential, he was a sloppy guitarist, he wasn't really an excellent one, I love Hendrix, but you gotta speak the truth, and that's the truth.
vallecaucano114 7 months ago
@vallecaucano114 man, what makes a good guitarrist? only technique? Soulfull and emotion playing is what puts jimi as the greatest; he was one with his guitar and it was pure magik.
and btw i don't agree he was a "sloppy guitarrist" he had a great technique, but its hard to play while trippin on LSD
icps86 7 months ago
@icps86 See, I was going to mention how what Hendrix had over most people was how much emotion and creativity he had, but i got lazy, so believe when i say this, I agree with you, but, his technique was really not that awesome, he was just really really innovative, and I think that's what made him so good.
vallecaucano114 7 months ago
@vallecaucano114 Stevie had flawless technique but many have. That’s not what he had over other 80s players. It was his emotional playing first and foremost. Some critics even complained about him being "over the top". Hendrix was innovative and courageous enough to do what he felt like doing on his guitar and back in his day that's what he had over his peers. He inspired many guitarists to feel free to experiment hence he's reputation of the most influential guitarist
Jesrama1 7 months ago 4
@icps86 Mate, if SRV got any fame as a guitarist, it was not because of technique but because of his unmatched passionate soulful playing. Hendrix was pretty experimental and hat’s what makes most of his reputation. Hendrix mostly engages my ears. Every note Stevie plays hits my soul. Never experienced anybody like him to this very day. BTW, there is no such creature as "the greatest”; not in music at least. It's all opinion and preference and more or less prejudice
Jesrama1 7 months ago 5
@Jesrama1 yeah i agree
icps86 7 months ago 2

@potskomer
I went to school and studied civil engineering. I'm glad they taught me what they wanted me to know. And I don't feel like a robot. I'm glad I learned by reading before I started doing because if I did it your way many could be dead by now...and that thought scares me to death

What next plaster caster, dimensions,seek help!
graysquirrel36 10 months ago
@graysquirrel36

Amazing! Last post!
graysquirrel36 10 months ago
@graysquirrel36
Hendrix was an influence too, like "every guitar player I've ever heard" (quote)

jimi couldnt play like that if he had lived to be 100 but the guy was a pioneer and an awesome guitar player so its not like the guy was shit... but i mean to compare him to stevie.... idk man seems pretty silly to me... not even in the same ballpark man.
dce040186 10 months ago 15
Just for the record, I think Stevie was a guitar God, I'm actually saying he is "my" favorite guitar player of all time! So no more arguments from me, but I do know a thing or two about the man, and his music! Done!

Jimi and Stevie both would be ashamed of the pissing contest you guys are putting on! Stevie loved Jimi, Jimi loved everyone! Jimi opened the door, Stevie came through 6-strings blazing! I can't believe I am actually writing this, give it a break, and turn it up!!!!!
graysquirrel36 10 months ago
@graysquirrel36
I see your good intentions but for the sake of factual accuracy...it wasn't Jimi who "opened the door" for Stevie; the number of people commenting on SRV without knowing the first thing about him and without even realizing the link between him and Hendrix never ceases to amaze me
