Im an Aberdeen fan, im only 17 and I have only witnessed utter dissappointment and quite a few 'almosts' in my life as an aberdeen fan. I am completely jealous of those Aberdeen fans who, in the 80's, were witnessing our team winning 3 spl titles, 4 scottish cups, 2 league cups, the european cup winners cup, and the european super cup. I on the other hand have only seen a short-lived but okay run in the uefa cup and several semi-final defeats. Im sure though, one day, the glory days will return.

Seeing Easter Road in 79-80 reminded me of my late brother who climbed the fence & invaded the pitch that day - hooligan? NO - just a very excited fan who never thought he'd see his team ever win the league! Btw, we don't live in the past up here, but we would love anyone outside the Old Firm just to win a league title once more - even Dundee Utd! (maybe)

But I wasn't having a go at either Rangers or Celtic in my comment, just stating what most people feel including a lot of Old Firm fans that Scottish football is boring because it is so predictable as far as the league goes. It would be refreshing for someone else to win it & surely as a Rangers fan you would rather see someone else other than Celtic win the title if it isn't your own team?

@Jim0912 Its not going to happen though.Hibs might have won it,if they kept that team that came through.But every player has a price,even at Rangers.Players cant sign 9 year deals any more and be held to them.The main reason that there was ever a challenge from the new firm in the first place.Auld firm cant even keep there best players.If a offer comes in from EPL or championship.The best we can do is try and bring better young players through our systems.And at least it will help the nat team.

We lost the match and nothing happened, not a big deal and not a big trophy after all. But watching this video makes me realize how important it was for so many people in Aberdeen, what a big thing it meant. The two sides of the story. There are a lot of old firm fans, saying it was a fluke and laughing at us getting beaten 5-1 at home. Aberdeen just don't have the money unlike Celtic & Rangers. Rangers must be more humiliated getting beaten 4-1 at home for the second time last night because it's not expected of them, Aberdeen maybe more so. Thing is in the 80's we were regularly beating Celtic & Rangers. 26 years on we are still the last Scottish team to win a European title, which shows how hard it is to do.

I'm a Celtic & Scotland fan (we don't all support Ireland!) but this Aberdeen team was special. So many talented players, strong characters and a great manger. I personally want teams like Aberdeen to compete against the old firm, it makes for a more interesting leauge and would improve overall standards within the Scottish game. I was 11 at the time of the ECWC Final, I was in Gothenburg, and until I went on another Euro away day 10 years later, I never appreciated how good 1983 was. I've even been to the Champions League Final in Moscow, and it was a hell of a game, but Gothenburg ranks above that. Why......because it was never meant to happen. And THAT'S why evertime I see this final, I cry......not just a tear, but I well up, because we'll never see anything close to this as long as we live.
