  • lol yeah///

  • Man, that's pretty crazy. Not much of a drift, though. : /

  • That's pretty crazy!

  • lol!

  • stupid

  • Thats fairly easy and and increadibly stupid idea.

  • Japs invented drifing?

So, cars had 100% grip and the back never stepped out before the Japanese came along and purposefully fucked the back end up for this 'sport'?

Yea right. Cars oversteered before Nissan (or Datsun) got their hands on wheels.

  • you knoe whats funny drifting wasn't always on boats people can drifts on canoe if the tide is fast

  • lol whattttt

  • Did the Japanese invent drifting? That probably depends. If you are talking about just turning car sideways, etc., people have done that forever.

But "The" "Drifting"? If you are talking about the current form of this sport(or activity, whatever), then you'd have a very strong argument to support that it was indeed invented by the Japanese. They at least turned it into what it is today. :)

  • Yea agreed, didnt 'invent' it but they've contributed to its current popularity a lot.

  • Drifting has existed ever since cars had enough torque going to the back wheels to break them loose in a turn.

Competitive drifting as we know it started with Japanese racing on mountain passes (touge battles). Nobody did anything quite like that before, plain and simple. Oversteer happened in racing before, but was avoided (like in every other kind of racing) and certainly wasn't what the driver was TRYING to do like in touge racing.

  • There are publications from around 1914 that suggested if it was icy it happened as well lol, scary stuff in automobiles from that era.

Sorry, I just really dislike the way drifting is classed as a motorsport rather than a showcase.

  • IMO, touge racing is much more of a motorsport than stuff like D1

I know what you mean and mostly agree though

  • drifting is a motorsport...but its a motorsport and a showcase all in one. But there is a difference between doing a burnout...and drifting. and competitive drifting didnt start on the "touge". It was Kunimitsu Takahashi that did it in the elegant Nissan Skyline GT-R of the old times. so people the age of our mom's and dad's were the starters of the sport of drifting. PS...people that argue that drifting started with muscle cars: Kunimitsu Takahashi raced before the first mustang was ever made)

  • touge isnt drifting neither is it a race involving the drift. touge stands for mountain pass.

  • ?? ^^

  • vid amazing, comments retarded

  • Few notes to all the retards here. The car is a Nissan S13 Silvia. That's it. Sil-80s grew popular as the Silvias were less popular, hence the front ends were cheaper to buy and slap on the front of a 180s
