  • I dont think a beard looks good when its black like mine. so what should i do about that?

  • The best and easiest (and most precise) way IMHO to do it is this.

Take a piece of string and hold it between your thumb and index finger at both ends. Hold the string up under your chin and against your neck, Lower your chin and put slight upward pressure on the string. Now lift your chin and shave everything below the string. That is the exact point where your jaw meets your neck and where your beard should end.

I've never heard this method used before, but I've always done it this way.

  • Thanks, good info!!!

  • subscribed, awesome beard coach, keep posting videos!

  • nice beard !

  • The two finger rule applies to gf's as well lol

  • so i made the mistake of doing this on my own and realizing it didn't look right. then i found your video. i followed the jaw bone. i'm about a month in and don't want to restart. what's the best way to correct this mistake? do i just let it go and have a barber blend after a couple of weeks or do i let the unshaved hair grow past the two finger point and let new hair fill in underneath? any advice for correcting a neckline after a month in?

  • @mustache9000 When I have to do beard reshaping becuase the neckline is too high I just let the bottom grow out intil I can create a new line where I want it and then use my beard trimmer to fade it in with the longer portion of the existing hair. Or you can go to a barber and have them blend it for you if you don't want to do it yourself. Hope this helps...

  • hey coach i'm a fat guy. How should i set my beard? I Wanna look good with my beard.

  • Never cared much about taking care of my beard as Id shave it off completely but now that I decided to grow it out this helps a lot. Thanks!

  • Up the beard ratio, lol.. I'm 24 and growing my first beard. 6 weeks old full

  • Good video, always wonder about about going too high or not on the neck line. Growing a beard is the easy part, keeping it presentableis a whole other story!

  • Great video. Very inspirational. I'm growing my beard for the first time in almost 25 years (thanks to you!). I'm about a week into it. How often should I trim my neck line?

  • I jealous of your beard..hope i can grow mine like that!

  • I've recently decided to take the weight of manhood and let my beard grow out for the first time. You, sir, helped me greatly. I was afraid of shaving too high. Thanks!

  • I love your tutorials and tips. I was wondering if you could try a product out for me. I developed it to tame the full beard. I have reached out to you about tips on how to grow, care for, and shape my beard. I really respect your opinion and was wondering if you would try it, for free. There are no razors or chemicals. What do you think?

  • ready 4 a new video

  • the beard coach... lol thats great

  • Bearded man…you have a very nicely groomed sexy beard! Thanks for teaching all those other men out there what it is like to really know how to 'rock' the beard and make it look very attractive!

  • What sucks for me i can grow a good beard but not a good mustache it comes in a lot but thin hair and will not go down to my beard makes me so mad!!!

  • Had to help my Boyfriend shave his beard for a job interview... This was the video that convinced him I could do it without making him look like a ween,,, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Beardcoach if you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living?, because there are a lot of jobs that require employees to shave

  • @Beardcoach man i just want to say Ive been trying to grow the beard that harley from epic meal time has and Ive been shaving it to follow my entire jaw exactly and now i found out what Ive been doing wrong, thanks alot man

  • hey @Beardcoach

My beard hairs keep breaking and snapping off. kind of like split ends, but the hair will 'crack' sometimes more than once on a single hair in different places on the hair.

Ever experienced/heard of anything like this? I've tried different shampoos and this still continues.

    Thanks E

  • I love your beard. Definitely want to keep it like yours is in this video after I do my wild style for a bit. I'm in the process of growing one right now. I'm so excited. No more shaving for me. Just trimming after it gets unruly lol

  • This is your best video. It is so relevant because I grew my first beard and needed to know where to line it up. I have a full beard and I keep noticing men everywhere following the mandible and it looks so wrong!

  • @1:06 That's a pretty awesome pattern in which the beard grows.

  • Great vid! I've had a gotee for 4 yrs until I deciding to shave it off last week. Last night I decided to start growing a beard and came across your video. Good tips. Thanks!

    +1 to beard ratio

  • great tips and great handsome beard on a handsome guy :)

  • Thanks man I've been worrying a lot about how to shape this beast of a beard on my face, had a goatee for 5 years now and just decided to go for the full on beard

  • Thank you so much for educating the beard growing men out there on the difference between a neck line and a jaw line. Dudes who shave along the jaw line get a bad double chin effect going on. Take it from a lady, it's not attractive. Keep 'em growing, boys.

  • @suzielee1991 It's easier for me because I wear a Van Dyke-style goatee. Everything comes off except what's on top of the chin and the lips.

Beards don't seem to be very attractive to the much younger ladies. I think it's because of the age barrier. Beards make men look older...

  • Great upload, thanks for sharing!

    PaceShave*com

  • My beard looks amazing thanks to you

  • MORE BEARDS!!!!

  • what products did you put on your beard to help it grow?

  • i cant touch my adamsapple!!! feels creepy

  • awesome video, Ive been growing my beard out for about 2 weeks and this morning i desided to cutt the defining lines for the neck, wish i had watched this video first, im at a 3 finger line from my adams apple still looks pretty good but any shorter and id be in trouble i think. So im +1 to bearded population =p

  • My mustache area takes two times longer to grow than my neck does. Any tips for growing that area better?

  • Thanks for the tip on the neckline! Great beard by the way.

  • That would have saved me a lot of bad beards when i was a young man. Beard's looking good dude.

  • Fantastic upload! Lining up beard lines is essential to keeping a beard in check. Thanks for sharing!

    PaceShave*com

  • Awesome beard there!

  • my beard need to come in im 16

  • You sir have the coolest beard I have ever seen. Perfect length, perfect style, perfect texture.

  • thanks for this video !!

  • In the Bible (Lev.19:27) God forbids any kind of shaving of beard. However, it is understandable that a beard should be regularly cut in the same way as nails. Too long beard is impractical, it is hard to keep clean and it is in the way for intimacy. God has given humans the sense of beauty which suggests that a beard should be rather short and simply but nicely formed. I believe that a beard should be between one and two centimeters along the cheeks and about three centimeters on the chin.

  • What about ass hair ???

  • Hahah hilarious

    LIKED

  • Up The Beard Ratio, Love It !

  • After looking at different vid and pages out there, I came back to you to say thanks for the thumb and two fingers tip. Newbie and at first was two high both cheek and neck, so I’ll follow the tips. Beards (cough, trim beard) are all the trend atm!

  • I saw who gives a shit where the neck and cheek lines go. Let that puppy grow. The most epic beards are those ones that are completely untrimmed. You know, the ones where the mustache completely covers the lip, making it almost impossible to eat food with out combing it upwards outta your mouth!

  • im growing my first beard its fucking itchy though

  • @BowToMySkill Moisturizing your beard helps with the itch factor.

  • I've spent all day calling barbershops trying to find one that was open and one that wasn't going to charge an insane amount of money just to shape my unshaven face. (Floyd's Barbershop wanted $23!) I need my face shaped today before work tomorrow and your video saved the day cause I had no idea who to shape it. Your video is simple and clear. Loved it!

  • I've got a question, I've got hair growing pretty high up my cheeks and Im worried about shaving them because I don't want them to grow in thicker. I've been using this cream that you put on for 10 minutes and then you kind of scrape the hair off. But it's starting not to work, what should I do about that ?

  • hey i got a question i really need someone to anwser.

does your natural beard line or shape (the way it grows, or where it grows)

is that effected by they way u shave when your first getting facial hair or not.?????????

  • Take's gut's to grow a beard, but mate it look's good and help's if you know how to smile..

  • My bearded brother! <3

  • Good vid. I always get the neck line right, but constantly have trouble with the cheek line.

  • now thats what a beard looks like

  • nice beard.

  • Great beard & beard advice Brother. I'm muslim & i never knew where the neck line should be, so cheers mate!

  • Great guide on how to trim the beard up! Thanks, my beard is now well on it's way to not looking shabby and distasteful!

  • beard looks great, what's the length in this video, scissor or trimmer?

  • @TheDatsundude

Thanks! I think it was a month or two past my longest trimmer setting. It would take scissors to keep it the length in the video.

  • you give great advice

  • MY BEARDED BROTHER!

  • @jammyjam67

I know the feeling! Being bearded is the best!

  • When you shave the beard up to your cheek bones it gives it a clean look as oppose to a natural look like he has it. Its all up to what fits your look better clean cut look or caveman look up to you.

  • @The3Shogun

Really, dude? I look like caveman?! Do you really see hair up to my cheek bones? Please tell me you don't have than ridiculous pencil-thin hip-hop beard. If so, my youtube channel and website are probably not for you.

  • nice man thanks for the tips on beard triming, use to take me an hour to trim, now i am down to 15 mins. Thanks, beard coach

  • @SylentCommando

Oh, heck yes. I'm all about cutting down the trim time. Congrats on becoming an efficient beard wearer!

  • I have to say, that is an awesome beard! I want one like that someday!

  • @Geffreyy

Thanks, dude! Keep trying to grow a beard once a year, and some sweet day you'll make it happen!

  • Really helpful suggestions! Love the Adam's Apple trick. That's brilliant. And also, you look really good in your beard. (Well-grown and maintained) facial hair is one of the hottest features on a man, and you're no exception. You're damn fine beardcoach!

  • @Ness118

My goodness! Thanks for the kind compliment! My wife most certainly agrees with you. You see, young men? A beard really does attract what you're looking for. The person you're meant to be with will love you for your beard!

  • Thumbs up to that bro. I've been sporting a beard similar to yours for a while now, and I use to think that facial hair made me look much older, but a lot of people have told me that it doesn't, so I'm not shaving any time soon. Beards are cool in my opinion.

  • @80sHitz

Word up, my friend. Keep that beard a'growin! I still get carded for booze despite my beard (and the fact that I'm in my 30s).

  • Hey beardcoach, I have a problem. the hair under my chin-line grows up and runs into the downward growing hair from above my chin-line and it causes it to just stick out from my face instead of lay down. I have only been growing it for about a month but it is starting to look ridiculous. Thanks.

  • Adam dude..you inspired me on growing a beard. its been 3 weeks i keep growing it and i wish someday it will look just like yours. The neckline tip was awesome. I would like to see an episode about the area between the lower lip and the chin someday, or useful tips on how to trim that area. <3 from Greece and keep up the good work

  • Hey man,

im 16 and facial hair is starting to come

i just have one problem were im getting a few dark hairs too high on my cheek and i dont want my cheek line that high. I dont want to have stubble or gray spots all the way about a centimetre off my eye

do you reccomend me shaving the hair or doing anythingg else?

    thanks

  • thx good advice, but as you are blessed with a small amount of cheek hair, i'm blessed with a beard that wont grow below the 2 fingers above the Adams apple of mine, but more to the point i'm after a goatee, any tips for that?

  • wow, amazing beard, incredible depth

  • nice beard.

  • hey man, I got a question;

My beard-side, of my right cheek, is too high, I mean, the beard line is to high on my cheek, I don't want to have it almost up my cheekbones as i saw at some men, but what can i do to lower the hairgrowth?? I tried threading and stuff, but it'll come back, slowy yes, but shaving it down isn't an option, cuz you'll get stubbles.. right?

  • dear sir, i admire your beard. for real

  • wow you´re lucky man you dont have problems with the beard in your cheeks, so i will try the I \ __ / I<-- like your beard cuz mine is to high up, lol and thanks for da tips

  • thanks man, great tips!

  • I'm 17 and have a pubic beard :'( it looks like I've got pubes on my face, when will I get a real beard???

  • @mando267 lol man)) just wait, be patient

  • that was very helpful u Rock Man

  • Great info, thank you, I'm 34 yrs old and growing my 1st full face beard. I made the mistake of going to high on the neck and too low on the cheeks. Its looking better now that its almost fixxed and grown in. I'm actually pretty excited about this whole beard thing, I'm already way past my comfort zone so there's no turning back now. Good luck to you

  • get a life

  • Hey,

I'm in the process of growing a beard, with similar beard lines to yours, but I was looking for it to be a LITTLE more trim. I have a beard trimmer that I use to get ride of stray hairs and such, but my question is in regards to the mustache portion. do you find that you trimmed this more or less than the rest of your beard? I tend to have lighter hairs there and it's not QUITE as thick as the rest of my beard, but I don't want that area looking too shaggy. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • God bless you and all other beardsmen. Long live the beard!

  • your beard is awesome!

  • dude you're insane. its "no shave november" to help support prostate cancer, so a bunch of my friends and i...well arent shaving(: im only 16, so i had no idea how to fix it up until now. thanks man!!

  • Been growing my beard for 1 month now - just trimmed my neck line using your advice - looks great - thanks man!

  • Thanks beard coach! You rock. The Dos Equis man would be proud. Cheers!

  • you look like kenny powers friend from the first season of eastbound. thumbs up

  • Thank you very much, I started growing by beard recently but I did not know how to maintain the neckline (so I kept a neck beard for awhile) but your 2 finger rule worked great

  • Thanks coach!

  • Cool dude. I have a pretty awesome beard if I may say do myself but this just reinforced the whole jaw line thing. Peace

  • Muchas gracias for your tips..You are HUGE HELP. My boyfriend got a gorgeous beard, but we are undecided how far his beard should be shaved at his neck line, and I said" WE" because I am completely involve on his beard growing and grooming. I just believe men with perfect beard look more distinguish and HOT and my boyfriend got the beard for that look. Love to run my hands all over it any chance I get ;-) Thanks again.

  • i think my beard is to high , towards my cheek area, hat can i do to lower it dude/ please help, because it looks sometimes aweful :P

  • uummm ummm ummmm ummmm ummmmm ummmmmm ummmmm ummmm ummmmmm

  • cool, I didnt know this, good tips.

  • My neck line is a little patchy on one side so I end up trimming it higher up then i would like, so it looks even on both sides. I've only began to really try to grow a beard in the last 6 months. I use a trimmer only when it starts to get to shaggy. but each time its looking better and better! One day ill have an epic beard like you my friend!

  • this is JUST the video i've been looking for! my girlfriend loves the scruffy look, but after a couple weeks there would always be too much neck fur! the two finger rule should help a ton since i always shave too high. thanks for making this :)

  • Comment removed

  • Good tips, man. For some reason my cheek line on the left side of my face goes WAY higher than the right. Pain in the ass to get even. Appreciate the advice.

  • hey mate, if I made the neck line too high (about 1,5cm) what should I do? shave and start again?

  • @0HerrKarl0

It depends on how long your beard is. If it's still pretty short, you can just let the hair grow back and the difference won't be noticeable after a couple weeks. If your beard is long, however, you may need to use clippers to trim it all to a short length and try again. Whatever you do, don't shave your beard off and give up!

  • @Beardcoach Thx Adam! Great help! On Thursday I am going to work again - looking forward to the reactions ;)

  • 1. You are fucking awesome.

    2. The two finger rule is the best tip I've ever learned.

  • @KillingOptions

    1. This may be the most extreme compliment I've ever received.

    2. Glad I could help. Here's another: a tsp of dried herbs can replace a tbs of fresh. Dig it!

  • @Beardcoach 1. How do you keep your beard hairs from wayward? Used a comb to train, and even tried a brush. Relaxer maybe?

    2. Hey man, are you advocatin' Jane use in this 2nd answer?

  • Hey man, i was just wondering if you had any tips on beard combing or brushing, my beard is currently not as long as yours but long enough where i think it needs to be combed, i noticed like stray hairs along my jaw line and i just wanted to know if you had any tips for how to neaten it up a bit without trimming.

  • @TheAgonyOfVictory

Yeah, dude, run a brush through your beard and see how you like it. It does help tame some of the unruly hairs, but there are just some that will refuse to conform. I think there is a lesson to be learned from those brave little guys.

  • @Beardcoach hahahaha ok sweet. I'll give it a go. thanks

  • The two finger trick is great man! I'm growing a beard now and shaved my neck line before I seen this video , So i set up my fingers , and the line I shaved was just a slight bit above my top finger! So that trick you have gives a good general area!

Also , What would you suggest for beard cleaning? At the moment I'm just using regular shampoo and conditioner.

  • @Graves1488

I use regular shampoo as well... no conditioner. There's no need for specialized products in my opinion. That way you can wash your beard and head hair simultaneously.

  • the adams apple two finger trick = best beard shaving tip ever

  • How do I deal with the people that do not support my beard? It is cold and I need to cut wood.

  • @azrial4421

I guess you say "screw you guys" and refuse to share your firewood.

  • hey beard coach, nice info! turns out i have been doing it right all along!

ps. you look like my dad

  • thanks alot man helped alot
