This is appalling. There is absolutely no excuse to treat someone like this. Regardless of the election results, the way that the Iranian government has retaliated against the protests is unacceptable.
There are plenty of successful examples of both gun-toting and peaceful revolutions.
But in this case, if all the people had guns instead of peaceful protests.... their Govt would just show off bigger guns. the death toll would be FAR more than what's being reported now.
Possibly, I don't know. I'm not in Iran obviously, but I'm not sure the government HAS any guns to show off. The military has been remaining neutral so far, which has to mean they're at least partially pro-dissident. The only government supporters at the moment seem to be the Basij and other militia groups. Of course, if the people pulled out guns, that might change in a hurry. I don't know.
Whatever the case, I just hope everything works out.

There are plenty of successful examples of both gun-toting and peaceful revolutions.
But in this case, if all the people had guns instead of peaceful protests.... their Govt would just show off bigger guns. the death toll would be FAR more than what's being reported now.

Possibly, I don't know. I'm not in Iran obviously, but I'm not sure the government HAS any guns to show off. The military has been remaining neutral so far, which has to mean they're at least partially pro-dissident. The only government supporters at the moment seem to be the Basij and other militia groups. Of course, if the people pulled out guns, that might change in a hurry. I don't know.
Whatever the case, I just hope everything works out.
