Thanks, this is helpful. I have a Samsung combo recorder. The problem I'm having is the audio and video go out of sync about 15 minutes into each conversion from VHS to DVD. I've tried using an outside source VCR with high quality cables, but it makes no difference. Driving me NUTS!! Any ideas?
It's great to convert your tapes to DVD for easier/more convenient viewing and for making copies for people. But if you do it purely for the idea of "preservation" (as
this guy implies you should be), then you are greatly DELUDING yourself. And the folks who've been conned for the same reason into transferring their home movies shot on actual 8mm or 16mm *film* are even more misinformed (though
disinformed is more like it). Whatever you do, don't ever discard your original tapes or films.
@Onneff69 Yea, I just convert mine to VCDs, since you dont really get a quality boost just by having them on DVD, and since most DVD players play VCDs in the first place.
I have a Daewoo DVD/ VHS recorder witch works ok when i want to transfur a VHS to disc or disc to VHS but if i attempt to play the recordings on another player it wont recognise the disc. I transfered my brothers school play from a VHS recorded in the 1980's to a DVD and plays fine in the Daewoo but not in any other machine. So i tranfered the disc back to a VHS tape and played ok but when i played the tape in another VCR it was as if the tape was a hundred years old! Built in copyright?
Converting any analog video signal to digital formats is never going to be cheap if you want the best quality. Cheap = dirty, horrible video transfers.
You MUST have a TBC (Time Base Corrector) in between your analog out signal into your digital recorder/capture device. Otherwise the luminance, color and image quality will be fuzzy, dull, dark and jittery. Try Ebay. :)
It's easy to edit if you first, copy the VHS direct to your hard drive via through your palm/camcorder. You don't need a tape in your camcorder either. Expert village has these instructions here on youtube.
Hi i have a AMILO Pro 2000 laptop without a dvd burner and i dont even have a working vhs recorder. If i buy a External DVD Burner and a VHS from ebay. Can i connect them to my laptop and copy my tapes? Please help
All these 'VHS to DVD' you tube videos are the same. None give best capture sizes, codecs, cleaning, etc. They are either sales pitches, or they only have the absolute basics. For people who only know how to press a button.
you can. what you do is buy the easycap USB 2.0 grabber (Which costs about $15) and then use it to connect your vhs player to the computer and use free software like Golden Videos to convert it into a movie file which you can then edit.
@jrdmart10 depends on the computer for mac you need 2 programs, mactheripper, and isquint. you use mactheripper to rip the file and isquint to convert it to a editable file. i dont know about pc though.
I just recorded my 20 year old vhs to dvd-r using a pioneer dvd recorder. It work great when played on the pioneer but for some reason it did not work on any of my pc's or other players. Is there any way to fix this??
Roxio is famous for having terrible software, and comically/infuriatingly bad technical support. Dont believe it? Go to Amazon and read the reviews on their supposedly wonderful "Easy VHS to DVD" software. I dont know if I've ever seen THAT low a score in terms of customer reviews. That product, according to the hundreds of people who took to time to write about their experiences with the product and also with Roxio's customer service....SUCKS BALLS! I will never buy anything from Suxio.
Much easier to record to VHS than DVD. And want to move to another room to watch VHS? Just pop it out of the machine, move to the other room, pop it into the other VHS machine and start from wherever you left off. Not possible with DVD!
man i cant wait to convert all my old vhs tapes of shows i recorded off tv to dvd one day. one thing i hate about vhs tapes like half way through the recording all the sounds goes away from the vhs tape. it's like it's on mute or something.
Any good quality brand of DVD recordable or DVD rewritable disc should do;TDK/Maxell/Memorex/Fuji etc, though some recorders may limit what type of recordable and rewritable discs you use(some only use +R/RW discs and some only use -R/-RW discs, while multiformat recorder use both plus and minus DVD R/RW formats).

Doesn't work on copyrighted stuff...now if one would have a Time base correcter...you can copy anything
MrBw1982 2 months ago
There's an easier way...you don't need a PC. Get a VCR connect it to a standalone DVD recorder
