Of ABC's really cool foray from introspective British pop soul into soul house and dance music in the late 80s to the 90s, this track singled out in its funkiness reminds me of the album in which Alison Limerick collaborated with The James Taylor Quartet ("In the Hand of the Inevitable"), a kiind of slice of a style of British funk - soul - house.
Not much is said of it, but JTQ's stuff was often house tinged or downright into house - especially tracks "Love The Life" + "See a Brighter Day".
< I know this is Brito-Italo (!) thanks to the Black Box Groove Groove guys. ABC made a really good contribution to house music in fact, though not so well known. Most of that contribution, through originals as well as remixes, is available in YouTube to find - though it did take me a whole day of not so much less than 12 hours to find all of it. YouTube plain searches only do so much sometimes - it's darting about between the links that can find things.
The problem with the remix is that they truncated the lyrics far too much - two verses and the spoken bridge are all chopped up. There was a great song in here before it was edited away.
The video is awfully '90s, isn't it? Colors, editing, those backcloth sheets with the rippling wind behind them... ugg!
This version is much superior to the album version which is a little tame, which the whole album was in general. A good album but I think this song benefits from the Black Box treatment.
Never seen the full version of this so well done to kenmoody1..it's a poor remix of the original version and possibly ABC at their least imaginative..thankfully all is now back on track with the brilliant "Traffic" album from last year.
Nice video from early 90s. Actually, this is the BLACK BOX REMIX (you can hear the similiarity to EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY and other Italohouse hits) - personally, I prefer the original mix. The BEST song from Abracadara - LOVE CONQUERS ALL - should have been a big hit...but, alas, wasn't.
Why they didn't release the album version, we'll never know...soooooo much better :)

The video is "awfully '90s" because it was created IN THE 90s!

Never thought I'd see this video here - one of my favorite songs when I DJ'ed in the early 90s. Wish I could find it on CD, only have it on 12"

I love this mix.
I think ABC made a great coup to get Blackbox to remix one of their songs. Shame this song never got the exposure it deserved.

A very rare and very cool video from one of my favorite New Wave bands. "Abracadabra" is an underrated gem of an album.
