  • 'Behold, what I have done I've got a smartie stuck up my bum'.I still laugh when I hear this song and recall its inevitable schoolyard re-wording. xD

  • Wow forgotten greatness. I think I was 10 when this came out

  • good film...

  • Hazel sang in one song what Pink Floyd tried to explain afterwards in their whole career

    Peace

  • wonderful song, still makes me go cold "a time for flight, a blinding light" It's still apt today

  • thanx to whoever put this on. It's class. Really class

  • BRILLIANT,, Those were the days, im showing my age now, but the early eighties music out of this world with groups like OMD, Hazel, oconnor, Toyah, Depeche Mode,

  • @The1967Taff yeah real music i wouldnt mind a real heart too like sum 8 day abraham covenant, i must be conning myself but u never know even the catholics say God work in mysterious ways,

  • 30 years on and it still sends tingles up my spine. Fantastic!

  • Hazel is singing about the NWO thirty years ago - What happend on the third day?

  • Fuck GaGa, listen to the lyrics, THEY STILL APPLY

  • BRILLIANT STUFF FROM THE LEGEND THAT IS HAZEL , BRILLIANT FILM , BRILLIANT SOUNDTRACK . A RARE FEAT IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WHEN A SOUNDTRACK IN THIS CASE - BREAKING GLASS- COULD STAND ON ITS OWN AS ACLSSIC ALBUM WITHOUT THE FILM AND VICA VERSA, REMEMBER SEEING HER AT HER FIRST IRISH GIG IN THE FIRST IRISH SLANE CASTLE GIG IN 1981 . SHE WAS EXCELLENT . SHE WAS 3RD ON THE BILL BEHIND THIN LIZZY AND U2 . OH WAT MEMORIES.

  • A relative?

  • dogstar518.... You took the words out of my mouth. ta

  • Truly amazing for its time great lyrics as relevent then as they are now!!!!!!!!!!

This has to be a shoofercat 10/10 Outstanding

  • seen hazel twice doing the "beyond breaking glass" tour. brilliant in small venues. and a very nice lady to boot!!!

  • Breaking Glass was Didi Fayeds second greatest achievement.

  • Truly awesome...

  • those that say lady gaga is fresh and groundbreaking have obviously never seen this!

  • @dogstar518 Dont joke with Gaga!!

  • @dogstar518 Indeed you have a valid point. I forgot how good Hazel O'Connor was. A little bit like Toyah Wilcox? Another 80's icon.

  • a great film showing the worst side of the industry and I believe i've seen it once on the telly all my life.....and Solent Green for that matter

  • shame on for for getting this raw talent

  • wot a fukin biriliant voice, what a brill bird. Fantastic. always takes me bak to mi youth!!!!

  • the guy at 1.24 looks like Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd :P

  • A valid piece of the jigsaw that was 80s music; superb..

  • Going by the crowds reaction this would have been good live.

  • saw hazel in manchester last week still as good now as she was 30 years ago.lisa on keyboards was excellent but claire on the sax was awesome.thanks for great show ladies

  • This fab brilliant song from the beautifully talented Hazel is a true all time classic and yes better than almost anything song wise that anybody can now offer.

  • I like most music, but I totally agree, you can't beat the retro classics and Hazel does some great songs! Great vid, thanks for sharing!

  • Should have used Toyah for this part big time!!! But think hazels great x

  • I totally hate this advert

  • Who'd of thought Hazel O' Conner could've predicted the digital visuals of Tron :)

  • 2 years before tron, 2 million times better. Phil Daniels 2nd best turn outside of Quadrophenia too. Great tune from a great film. In fact Im gonna amazon it.

  • I saw her live at this time at Woolwich Odeon (I think) she was terrific. Backed by the Flock of Seagulls. God I'm old.

  • Was this before Tron the original film? if so (cough)

  • @missjacko1 Yes. A long time before.

  • she dont bloody blink

  • hell --looks like hazel predicted skynet and termin8r?

  • @termin9r tbh it was a *very* common sci fi trope at the time

  • can anyone remember her in the kids tv programme...BoJangles??

  • Lol wow I feel old...... I watched this at the cinema I think her views were so ahead of her time

  • fabulous vid - sends hairs on back of my neck on end - still. This was SO different when it came out - you have to listen to it in that context. 80's was a music revolution. It created dance, hiphop, electronica, metal, hair rock amongst many others. The fashions were... erm... bold but so was the era. I saw Hazel perform at Acoustic Festival recently. Still got attitude - still got the voice - still got it. I always thought she has that x factor something that just makes you watch.

  • @Mikeydsmith Hazel Oconnor yep that name takes me back

  • no wonder the generation from the 80s are fucked up if thi sis the music you listend too hahahahah

  • @1bolter1 ha ha .........not

  • Its interesting that this film was released in 1981 and used a flurecent electronic catsuit. With a song about computers and technology.

1982 Tron was released with almost the same costume look.

Do you think Disney got a look at the rushes?

Parallel thinking or plagerism? You decide.

  • I just love this so much - Terminator film based on the lyrics maybe?

  • Stunning; simply stunning. Goosebumps or what...

  • she one in a million...x

  • todays copy cats are poor imitations

  • AGREE!!!!

  • But this is based on the late great Kaus Nomi

  • @peterjohnwink She was around at the same time as him. Do you dismiss Nomi for basing a lot of his act on Bowie? ;)

  • amazing song and the movie is a classic love it

  • This is bostin

  • Stands the test of time.

  • love this stll today absolutley class great song and music and vocals would love to see them if poss

Going to see her in Torrington, north Devon in November. Can't wait.

    As an aside...

After doing the support act at Leics demontfort hall, duran walked out past us through the crowd. Le Bon said( in an American accent) "remember us kid- we're gonna be big".

He was right but what a cock!!

  • very ahead of the times!hard to believe this was from 1980/81

  • ONLY SOUNDTRACK ALBUM i HAVE FROM THE PERIOD THAT STILL STANDS UP

  • what a tune,i am 45 now,still love this tune,and great film too,where she now?i would go see her,anyone help

  • @liverpool2878

She's still singing, doing benefits and performing over seas. I get a newsletter from her via e-mail. I love her. she's so incredible. I wish everyone knew the lyrics to this song. I saw her in concert in early 80's, had to hitchhike from cincinnati to Cleveland to see her. i wasn't going to miss it.

  • I loved Hazel - absolutely fantastic!! Music then was about something - it was angry - this song still makes me want to smash up the state!!!

  • seeing her tomorrow Nite, 1st saw her with Duran Duran in support in the 80's

  • Félelmetes mennyire látták a jövőt compjuter machine, silikon dreams....stb. baszottjó szövege van

  • don' remember it being like this, a bit weird.

  • Check out the acsent sequence at around 1;59, Tron copied that outright.

  • This movie that this is from was released in 1980, a low budget British rock flick, Tron was released 2 years later in 1982, the similarities in the imagery can't possibly be coincidence. Tron -inspired by a low budget brit-pop vid! LMAO at Hollywood 'groundbreaking originality'!

  • @TheJimmybliss come to think of it, youre completely right!!! love hazel o,conner, only saw tron on acid but spot on!

  • she looks so confused...

  • @bakaneko718 Watch the movie. There's a reason for that.

  • Chiana from FARSCAPE meets TRON.

  • 53 seconds. original tron cover inspiration?

  • she is an absolute legend.

  • no lady ga ga is a very pale ..poor copy of class.

  • That girl in the center with the blonde hair at 0:27 looks like an emo.

  • That girl in the center with the blonde hair looks like an emo.

  • Cosmic! Lol! I wanna buy this album now, brings bak so many memories- i was just dippin my toes in the big sea of the music world when i first watched this at very young age!

  • saw this movie as a kid and it's the only part of the movie that I can ever remember. makes you wonder if it was the inspiration for the Terminator movies! Or even The Matrix, come to think of it.

  • gotta love the 80s

  • Hazel wrote all of the music for Breaking Glass herself.

  • trouble is i wonder who wrote it for her? saturn freaks?

  • Brilliant film - and this track is early 80's music at its absolute best!

  • lady ga ga is just a poor copy of hazel

  • @drago0561 Gaga is a hard working creative little lady who respects all the talent in the word. So shut up! Hazel is amazing,so is Lady Gaga (im a fan of her since she was a brunette...so not the mainstream era:))

  • @drago0561 Nope. Gaga is amazing, talented and creative little girl.

  • Grew up to that , couldn`t get in to see as my aunty worked in cinema

  • got grandkids now but every timei hear this song takes me right back to my teens

  • I remember the first time I saw Breaking Glass on cable here in the states back in 81 I was blown away by what I seen when this final scene came up. To say that anyone had seen anything like this back then is an understatement. Still love the movie.

  • @barjan1 That wasn't the final scene. They cut it for release in the States. In the full version she then runs through the underground train station hallucinating and ends up recovering in a hospital bed.

  • @magpie66 thanks now I gotta find the uncut import.

  • just needs some backup dancers XD

  • 1:49 Stownehenge...

  • The film Breaking Glass is excellent by the way

  • @sandmansam1965 I've not seen it since the 80s but from what I can remember, it is :)

  • Hazel-O connor was a fantastic singer in her time, Pittey the 70's & 80's music don't make a come back, at least you can understand what they are singing about. As for lady GA GA shes can't sing with out the help of a studio with parents with money, put her on a live stage, she would freeeeeezzze.

  • I'm in a band with her niece :D

  • more like lady ga-gas mum .cb. she was a star hazel

  • TRON anyone?

  • @RomulusAaron tron came out after breaking glass.

  • hazel was def more punk than pop she was a pioneer! she went out with gordons brother too so we so4rt of knew her lol

  • hazel was def more punk than pop she was a pioneer!

  • nice but i prefer the 7 of 9 look, being a male chauvanistic pig of course!

  • Tron??

  • The 80's was so "unique" in more ways than one..this music and video is a snippet of the era /;~}

  • Tron?

  • terminator anyone?

  • Brilliant film .. Hazel made it what it achieved

  • Tron girl meets metropolis robot... Love it!

  • AWESOME,,,

  • this was pure early 1980s paranoid cold war film .

  • This is Lady Ga-Ga's grandma!

  • @astrophonix hahahahahaha this is my moms cousin xP

  • fab at 2.07ish wen it throbs in again ! ahhh, th 80's

  • Wow, the entire plot of the Terminator movies in one song - Hazel should sue!

  • @katasaifa OR BOWIE!

  • My favorite song?

  • Tron... Borg Queen... Terminator.. Would they even exist without this? I don't think so!

  • Comment removed

  • Has nobody noticed the neon sign behind her keep flashing "HELP"? It's obvious but nobody seems to have commented on it!

  • @whitewolf1963 hi.. yes.. I noticed it.. also the words HAAAH and POLICE too..

  • @hayabusabart Cool, I didn't notice the other words... Good catch! :-)

  • Lady Gaga is just a rip off of this original! Go Hazel O'Connor!

  • @whitewolf1963 Actually Hazel O'Conner (and pretty much every punky girl at the time) was ripping off Kate Bush. Heck, the character she plays in the film is called Kate. And the circuit-board design wasn't taken from Tron - because this was two years BEFORE Tron!

  • In the dark ages she would have been classed as a witch because she is so prophetic. She was so way in the future it's spooky.

Without her song we certainly wouldnt have had the Terminator films just for entertainment.

Machines have taken over our life but so many out there dont realise it. Paying bills - getting money out of the cash machine - online dating - the list is endless. What is scary though is that a computer somewhere is holding all our details and teaching other machines about us.

  • @RumbleGuts2112 and applications such as twitter / facebook / youtube / to monitor and analyse our every thought!

  • @Fawkhall so true. George Orwell once warned us about how one day big brother will be watching our every move. What scares me the most is that one day there will be a computer that will hold enough information on us to realise it has the upper hand. Everything from our DNA to what we have in the bank are stored electronicaly. Computers are getting smarter all the time and there are some that have already been taught to think for themselves. What if one gets pissed off?

  • @RumbleGuts2112 It'l come for you first as you seem to know so much.

  • @neilb13 Cheers for that warm and comforting thought lol

  • @RumbleGuts2112 It could even be me, engaging you in conversation as a human would but all the time running a trace on you, setting sights to TERMINATE!!

  • @neilb13 I got my gas bill through the post today so termination would be a bit of a bonus as far as i'm concerned...your name isn't HAL 9000 is it?

  • awesum*

  • Princess Diana's bloke Dodi directed this.

  • @1988acid He didn't direct it they just put up the money. Brian Gibson did who also did the Tina Turner story and other stuff.

  • Okay this video was 1980 and tron was 1982 so she was way ahead of her time.

  • Tron inspired her or she inspired Tron?

  • brilliant song

  • I saw Breaking Glass when I was like 18 years old back in 1980. It was awesome movie. Hazel O'Connor is why I became a fan of some Punk Rock. I even had the Breaking Glass vinyl record.

  • @JerryWE brillaint

  • Comment removed

  • seriously Gaga is a mix of Hazel and grace jones

  • Wichywoo ... That`s absolutely what I am talking about !

  • I remember going to see the film , this was way way before its time , excellent !!

  • "A time for flight and nothing but the void, forever night" Awesome stuff

  • The Bollocks
