  • Let me help with the mileage issue. I own a 1965 falcon. It has a three-speed auto transmission and a 1 barrel carburetor. Falcons had 3 engine options: 1 eight cylinder and two sixes (200 and 170 cubic inch). I own the 170 cubic inch engine (rated at 105 hp). It has nice torque for a six, despite the low hp. I get about 18-20 mpg around town, and it gets about 22 or so on the highway. A friend has a 2004 car with a 6 an gets about the same! Big Oil makes sure it remains that way.

  • Ther first Ford Mustang was based on the Falcon. It used a lot of components (engine, transmission, suspension, instrument panel, etc.) from the Falcon.

  • My father was an exe for Ford. We owned a 1964 Falcon Sprint Two door hardtop, 260 with four speed and chrome engine dress up kit. Very neat, nicely styled car.

  • Where is their ad for filterless Camels?

  • The voice for Linus sounded like the voice for Sally in A Charlie Brown Christmas.

  • bill hicks once said that artists who do commercials are off the artistic roll call forever. i think charles schulz is the lone exception.

  • I remember driving a 1965 Ford Falcon when I was . . . oh, younger than I am now :) Still and all, I don't remember being sold on it by Charlie Brown. It was a very nice little car with six cylinders, but I don't recall the mileage figures. Gas was too inexpensive back then to worry about it, I suppose.

  • @Karen12777 about 20 miles per gallon unless you got one with a large

engine. I bought a 1964 Ford Falcon new. Nice car.

  • I can name one. Ford Focus.

  • Ford Falcon Commercial (1964-1965)

  • Its too bad the Falcon is not longer sold. It is in Australia. Since the Crown Vic is gone, Ford should import the Falcon and sell it here since it is RWD and Ford has no rear drive cars.

  • "That's too bad. I could've used the money"

  • A great beginning to our cherished Charlie Brown specials. Thanks to animator Bill Melendez.

  • BE STILL, MY HEART! I LOVE a Ford Falcon! That beautiful classic is a BETTER IDEA!

  • Man. That's so funny, because it's exactly how the characters would have acted in the strip. Pounding his fist, "NAME JUST ONE!" And Linus' line there, man...so few licensed commercials ever manage to capture the characters so well.

  • I love this video, thanks for posting!

  • Didn't know the Peanuts kids did a little shilling on the side. Thanks for the video.

  • I never knew that Charlie Brown and the rest of the peanuts advertised the Ford Falcon. Thanks for posting this gem.

  • The "Peanuts" gang often "pitched" Ford models on TV- and in newspaper and magazine ads- between 1959 and '64.

  • Wow -- this is hardcore obscure. Thanks for this. This predates the Xmas special!

  • Charlie Brown says the car saves on gas. I didn't know they were concerned about saving gas in 1964.

  • yes, apparently they were. I'm currently doing research on Studebaker advertising in the 1950s and 1960s. I've looked through hundreds of ads, and in the '60s automobile companies DID stress gas milage.

  • @tamspeci Not many, than those folks paid the price a decade later!

  • @tamspeci the falcon was built to be a small economic car

  • @tamspeci The average American V8-powered behemoth of that era usually got somewhere around fifteen mpg average. When the Volkswagen Beetle came on the scene, the big news there was its amazing fuel mileage, somewhere around twenty-five mpg average. Anyone know how well this car could do?

  • @tamspeci in the 1961 version, he says it can get 30 miles for one gallon.... !

  • In 1963-64, you could by 5 Falcons with 10K.

BE STILL, MY HEART! What a BEAUTIFUL Better Idea! I just LOVE that car!

  • ....but income was A LOT different back in 1963-1964. A lot of cars sold for around $2,000 then....that's nothing like $2,000 today.

  • I guess Peanuts will die out... :(

    Poor Charles and Bill...

  • I still think the ford falcon is a kewl car. But was anyone thinking about saving gas in 1964?

Charlie Brown is a lot more assertive in the commercials. He even has his kite in the air in another one!

  • Yes there were small cars in america in the 50s and 60s the Falcon was one most were made by nash and studebaker. At one point my grandad had a 59 rambler american.

  • Cool! We have a '64 Falcon, Wimbledon White with a metallic blue interior. I should find a Peanuts decal for the rear window.

  • My dad had a 1961 Ford Falcon when I was a child. My brother still has the car. My dad loved that car.

  • this is the exact car i bought when i was 15 and i still have it, it is a great car

  • You mean you?or daddy?

  • The early commericals for Ford Motor Co. were the start of a life-long collaboration between Charles Schulz and Bill Melendez, the famed animator who worked for Disney and Warner Brothers. Starting with "A Charlie Brown Christmas," Bill's production company would go on to make more than 50 Peanuts TV specials. Bill died Tuesday (Sept. 3) at age 91. We'll miss you, Bill.

  • i love the peanut comics, and cartoons!

  • Bill Melendez just died?!

  • sadly yes. :-( . This is an EXTREAMLY RARE ad of 1964!!!

  • That is so sad! I hate that fact that we keep losing some great people over the past decade, but I'm glad he lived so long.

  • Charlie Brown - I recall one film where he drove across France in a Citroen 2cv!

  • in Paris, France to be specific

  • Where the hell did you find this? I thought this was lost forever.

  • By the logo at the bottom right corner, This ad has been copied from "Unique Cars and Parts" and i've also seen this ad from that website.

    Interesting old ad too.
