  • Andretti (Michael) should have given it up years ago.

Formula 1 experience proved he was pretty ordinary

  • Look at the crowd. Good lord. Remember when Indycar racing was A) Good B) popular C) interesting D) Relevant

  • If that were me I would have probably had at least some broken bones. This is one reason these guys are known as athletes.

  • I was sitting right on the hill when that happened

  • for goodness sake---where is the video of 1998 Road America...Franchittis first win! I had four seasons of CART on VHS until a little raincloud called Katrina....

  • @racquetface ohhhh fuck man that sucks. FUCK YOU KATRINA!!!

  • @racquetface Both the official IndyCar channel and de31168 have that race UL'ed. Go there, please.

  • nascar is a retail festival with drivers as the attraction, not competition. same as a rock concert or any other two day festival! It is a simplified version of an otherwise archaic endurance of outlaws that has as much to do with history as it does motorsport. We Americans take our technology in electronics over cars. which is why we are a hardly a piece of lint on a backdrop of world engineering. besides all of our competitive spirit has been allocated to hip hop music!

  • i love f1, but i hate what cart/champcar has become in join back up with irl which at the time no one europe cared about nd still dont. cart/champcar was a real contender to f1 racing. just u americans prefer to see cars go for 200 boring laps on an oval turning left, can't ye turn right or is that a bit gay for ye. only what ye call rednecks like irl nd nascar, i stopped watchin motorsports in america when cart/champcar died.

  • @chubbz5150ify

obviously you dont know what your taling about because almost half the tracks the IRL race at are road courses and NASCAR will race at 3 road courses next year

  • @nr2002vidz That because of Champcar and IRL joining back up and nascar is boring as hell.

  • omg did he died?

  • @purplexbuddha no he didnt die

  • jesus, is this commentator having a bj under the table or what!!!! how excitable!!!! i was waiting for the oh yes, oh yes, give it to me baby at the end!!!!

  • no yellow flag? lol

  • I remember watching this live when I worked at the ABC affiliate in Lexington,KY. I thought Michael was seriously hurt, but was glad he was o.k.

  • A combination of balls and stupidity to weave through two cars so close to each other at that speed heading into a breaking zone.

  • @thestaggie I disagree, it was exactly the right thing to do, he just mis-timed it.

  • I was in the grandstands right across from this wreck. It looked like everything was in slow motion. This was also Bobby Rahal's last ride at his home town track before he retired.

  • At 1:00, PJ Jones said ''What Happened to the Newman/Haas Cosworth of Andretti'' to Mark Blundell, the 1997 Championship contender.

  • Onboard footage at 1:47. As Michael came to the Backstraight and the he tags PJ and Carpentier was'nt there.

  • That's a very insane accident and it reminds me of Parker Johnstone's shunt at Elkhart Lake.

  • @stockholm16dz It is an incredible impact.

  • @stockholm16dz this was a lot worse than parkers shunt. jmo

  • i miss champ car...

  • I like the excitment of the color commentator.

  • That would have been a sick pass

  • my friends dad has an amazing picture of this accident. he was right on the wall takin pictures when andretti came into the esses

  • Michael was also involved in a scary first-turn, first-lap incident in the 1993 F1 race in Brazil.

  • any1 no when mario flipped an indycar?

  • Indy at 2002 or 2003.

  • yeah thanks

  • Didn't Marco flip @ Mid-Ohio 2007 too?

  • yeah he did but every1 knows that

  • And at the Indy 500 in '07

  • yeah, he coulda had a top 10 if that didn't happen

  • in the same corner

  • a holes he is not a lucky man.

  • That turn is very dangerous.... look at the videos of a bmw m3 and an aston martin dbr9 in another race at mid ohio just fly when they hits the bumps on the grass... I think some work here and there filling holes will make it safer....

  • The Andretti's dont have much luck on that track do they? because if you watched the INDY race there this year, Marco also flipped.

  • they have luck for the most part, indianapolis is where they seem to have a lot of bad luck. aka "the Andretti curse at indy"

  • i always go to that track every year ever since 2005

  • ever since 2005? so youve been there...3 times? i wouldnt call that "always" unless youre 3 years old.

  • no i go several times a year like this year i went to rolex there and alms and indycar

  • Quite a rough tumble for #6... Michael had Angels aboard this day.

  • i saw this live roght were he crashed it was so awesome glad he is ok

  • right*

  • he was bloody lucky man

  • A truly strange accident. Zanardi threw a HUGE block on Lehto, taking off his front wing end fence, which flew through the air and amazingly landed in PJ Jones's cockpit, temporarily rendering him unable to steer just as Andretti was coming past. They touched at 190+ mph and the rest is history.

  • (I Live in nazareth ) :)

  • But nothing compares with the accident involving Brian Herta and Alex Barron on Elkhart Lake!!

  • Wow, don't think I've ever heard Danny Sullivan hit a note that high or loud before. In other news, good thing that Michael was alright. That was a violent one.

  • I remember watching this too... dang that was one crazy crash

  • does any 1 have the crash when a car get airborne and land's on adrian's cras

  • I'll never forget that amazing crash. Hat's off to Andretti, he really had big time cojones.

    Adrian Fernandez won that race!

  • Michael Andretti, was so lucky... I watched the race by the way...

Only Zanardi had caused this crash! He took out 3 cars unexpectedly. Zanardi was fined and was stripped some points for the incident. This replay naturally gave Michael a real shock...

  • It wasn't for that incident Zanardi was fined for. In trying to get back into the top 12 on the last lap. he just barged his way past a couple of cars (at the same corner), and put them into the wall.

  • Zanardi had made alot of questionable moves in that race

  • How the hell does Michael walk away from that? It still amazes me...

  • I saw this live on TV and I honestly thought he was killed. Thank goodness he walked away.
