i'm sad to hear people call London a shithole to live in.I live in Oslo it's statisticly elected as the best city in the world to live in several times,but if i collect all the bad stuff (which appears in every city ) i could say Oslo's a shithole to live in as well.It depends on each persons own experience of the place and to me London is a beautiful and very nice city! I feel alive here and i've had good experiences only! I really love this place as my second home:)

London is a pretty city, but it's full of unhappy people who look miserable all the time. The only time you see them smiling and having fun is when there's liquor or beer in their hand. Not saying everyone's like this, but the majority. It's like there's some dark cloud over this city. All the people care about is work work work and making money to pay the bills. This city is only fantastic if you're rich and love money.

Now you tell me what is there in Sydney or New York thats older than 200 years, architecture in London can only be compare to those of Rome or Paris and other cities of old world! @jibberjabberman London has a great deal to offer their is no doubt about it, but there are many places I've visited where the general 'aura' of the place is far more positive. London is full of the walking doom & gloom where people don't communicate on the streets (check out the Underground!)..... Go anywhere else around the UK and you will feel a far more friendly atmosphere. London is NOT a personal city. You can live in your facade but I'll rather be somewhere where image isn't everything.

I think it is good to have a 'passion' though it is a little 'strange'... to me it is a form theatre and a great way to understand how to play on human emotions (cheer/boo).

Great weather does not make a city. In London you don`t want sun all the time. It London! I am lucky to have lived in both and I would say for a young person London as more to offer.

@jibberjabberman London is particularly grey a lot of the year even if doesn't rain. Hell it's a relief to see the sun at all from October to Mid Feb. It rains more in many cities than London however their downfalls maybe heavier rather than the London 'drizzle' and they generally get far more sunshine overall throughout the year. For good reason London has a reputation for being 'grey' because it is true!

But its still my home so I can't help but love the place :)
In comparison to the US and cities like New York I can tell you London is more expensive. Here taxes are higher that includes VAT (15% but will go back to 17.5%) and income tax (which has risen to 50%!!) So at this point in time it is comparatively cheaper to remain in the United States I would have thought. So in answer to your question yes jobs pay well but you pay a fair amount more in taxes.
Move to Sydney it dicks on London for quality of life.
London is a great place to visit but a depressing place to live... its ridiculously expensive, overcrowded and the people are the coldest/unfriendliest in the UK.
Combine a mix of chavs, pretenious city boys/girls and illegal immigrants... it's like the titanic... it's gonna sink in the stench of its own smugness in years to come.
London is very multi cultural.... if anything it probably the least racist major city in the world.
My problem with London is it has become such a artifical environment it is so money material orientated. London is without doubt one of the least 'friendly' city in the world..... everyone in general walks around with a chip on there shoulder. London is extremely multi raced, it has many many different races. The only thing i would be wrried about is if you are arabic because people get kinda scared on trains and stuff cos of the terrorist attakcs and even they can live happily.
@spanishloverfun I've lived in London, NY & Sydney, while London is perhaps the most diverse & 'coolest' I just can't stand most Londoners, on a weekend night you can meet great people because they are either foreigners or novelty tourists. The core Londoner is miserable & cold just like our lame weather. Sydney is awesome, it doesn't quite have the wow factor, but it's still a breathtaking city, that has great weather & a friendlier culture. At the end of the day people make a place for me.

Sydney is nice, but two weeks was enough for me as it's too far away from everything. I spent most of my life in the US (NY Inc) & as a child I lived in several major city's due to parents work & I've found no place that can touch London. Londoners have a real depth u can't find anywhere else. It's just my experience & opinion.

Mate I'm FROM London I've lived here most my life. Like I say a beautiful place to visit, but to live another story... very expensive... completely money/material orientated environment,.... there are so many better places to live. Being a global city unfortuntely lots of people have desire want to live here which means we get the very best and very worst of people.
Londoners are just not very good social wise. Generally regarded as the least friendly people in the whole of the UK.
Thats were I'm going to live when i turn 20 its just so majestic with all those British accents and everything with the black cabs and the houses of parliament and Doctor Who and Torchwood so wonderful!!!!

@jibberjabberman London is particularly grey a lot of the year even if doesn't rain. Hell it's a relief to see the sun at all from October to Mid Feb. It rains more in many cities than London however their downfalls maybe heavier rather than the London 'drizzle' and they generally get far more sunshine overall throughout the year. For good reason London has a reputation for being 'grey' because it is true!

GREY isn't my outlook at life at all, and by the way I spent 2 years in the fareast particularly Thailand (predominantly in Chiang Mai working in a Tiger zoo). I'm stating London for most the year is grey, and that certainly has a very negative effect on the people who live here (ALL YEAR ROUND), most people in London are miserable/cold as hell and that reflects on the city.

In comparison to the US and cities like New York I can tell you London is more expensive. Here taxes are higher that includes VAT (15% but will go back to 17.5%) and income tax (which has risen to 50%!!) So at this point in time it is comparatively cheaper to remain in the United States I would have thought. So in answer to your question yes jobs pay well but you pay a fair amount more in taxes.

Move to Sydney it dicks on London for quality of life.
London is a great place to visit but a depressing place to live... its ridiculously expensive, overcrowded and the people are the coldest/unfriendliest in the UK.
Combine a mix of chavs, pretenious city boys/girls and illegal immigrants... it's like the titanic... it's gonna sink in the stench of its own smugness in years to come.

My problem with London is it has become such a artifical environment it is so money material orientated. London is without doubt one of the least 'friendly' city in the world..... everyone in general walks around with a chip on there shoulder. @spanishloverfun I've lived in London, NY & Sydney, while London is perhaps the most diverse & 'coolest' I just can't stand most Londoners, on a weekend night you can meet great people because they are either foreigners or novelty tourists. The core Londoner is miserable & cold just like our lame weather. Sydney is awesome, it doesn't quite have the wow factor, but it's still a breathtaking city, that has great weather & a friendlier culture. At the end of the day people make a place for me.

Sydney is nice, but two weeks was enough for me as it's too far away from everything. I spent most of my life in the US (NY Inc) & as a child I lived in several major city's due to parents work & I've found no place that can touch London. Londoners have a real depth u can't find anywhere else. It's just my experience & opinion.

Like I say a beautiful place to visit, but to live another story... very expensive... completely money/material orientated environment,.... there are so many better places to live. Being a global city unfortuntely lots of people have desire want to live here which means we get the very best and very worst of people.
Londoners are just not very good social wise. Generally regarded as the least friendly people in the whole of the UK.
