I drive a city bus for a living... steve helmsley makes 102k an hour doing nothing... I make 50k a year working 45+hrs a week... paying $100 a month with $3000 deductable for united healthcare... time to man up there steve you schmuck
Hey Ed, you're not forced to pay United Health Care, but you are forced to pay taxes. Btw, how much are you and that Greenwald character making? I'm sure that he's making the film as a charitable public offer to enlighten the people - NOT.
@planetcave The Framers established taxation with the Constitution. No one is "forced" to pay taxes. The rality is that we all pay taxes, and we all benefit from them.
@planetcave Oh so you think it's right to profit off of denying customers health coverage?! Making profit off of selling pepsi is one thing, making obscene profits while denying people essential medical services are another. This is not moral.
this fat slut has taken osmabos balls on the chin one two many times it knocked fat globules to his brain , he aint even making sense anymore completlet apoplectic , , pop a carotid tubby die on camera please
Just because you want or need something, it doesnt make it a right.
I reject this scumbag ED as a person that has little schooling and even less thought into the matter and doesnt really earn the huge profits he makes either
this guy makes more they most of our heath providers!
@splicedenergy <-------- Your Obamessiah has obviously 'spliced' into another mass of dead neurons, aka your brain. Another case of too much KoolAid (actually, myriad cases).....lol
Clearly a shill. You have a choice between providers. However the insurers use price gouging. Thus their is no competition or real choice. That is not democracy or capitalism. It is closer to fascism. It is a monopoly by the insurers. The douche bags who say they don't want the govern. between them, and their DR. need to ask themselves "Do I want an Insurance company (aimed at profit) between me and my doctor?". That is what happens, an insurance agent not a DR. decides what your entitled to.
Yes, I'm a shill and I was hired by the insurance companies to post shit on youtube. Add that to your conspiracy list.
The insurance companies operate on 3-6% net revenue (profit) which is on par with most major industries. You wouldn't want EVERY procedure to be given the green light because then operating costs (and therefore your premium) would rise accordingly. In a gov't system the pay would just come from taxes.

Hi i'm Australian, Health care in Australia is governent regulted, you only pay 1.5% of the your salary < $20/week it covers you for free hospital care or visiting a doctor. Reform must come, its crazy that you can profit from not treating a sick person unheard of in Australia! US Capitilsm gone crazy! National health care can be a reality in USA but It requires a national protest, & revolution against those in power- the health insurance co's
You americans have lived for so long in this nutty system that you think it's the only way it has to be....but that's just not so. Canada funds its healthcare at around $3500 per person, the US spends $7000 per person. A single payer system funded to your levels in the US would be very very good. So the money's in your system, it's just not going to the sick, as Bill Clinton often says.
Yes, I'm also against abortions, but I'm not going to whine about it so much if other people use tax money of mine for it. There are so many tax dollars being levied that I'd probably be paying 5 cents a month or so for abortions. I'm fine with that.
You have to be empathetic. You need to care a bit for other people and the problems they have before saying, "it's your fault for not being able to pay to live". Right now, right-wingers anti anti-reform lobbyists are just being pathetic"
You can't privatize basic rights like health care because people end up gaining when they don't provide the services that they are supposed to provide. If people are making money by NOT providing you the services that you pay for, the system is BROKEN! Its so obvious, the people who see otherwise are brainwashed! I am Canadian, so I don't have this problem, still as I have a conscience, I feel too bad for all of those sorry souls who are denied these basic rights. SMARTEN UP DOWN THERE
Prior to Hemsley, William McGuire was CEO. Google him. Back dating stock options, a golden parachute of over a billion-time to hold our elected officials responsible for not supporting change.
This issue is absolutely true. For profit health insurance corporations, who have fiduciary duty to turn massive profit to their shareholders, have absolutely no place in healthcare. The first step in whatever reform is proposed by congress - must be to strike this from our health system. Please watch my videos, Healthcare Reform 101 - BLOODMONEY.
ifnyou watch, the hit words is about how much these guys make in an attempt to creat jealousy in those that dont even pay for their health care. the zero liability voter has no skin in the game and will protest anything. they care nothen who pays because they dont. and when jealousy lags, use raceism. always a fav.
I see that when you have a disagreement with your polocies , you call people names. its not that and it is sad a true debate is never done. I have some debates ed did and as with most on the wrong side, when they lose or are losing the debate, you all resort to name calling and shouting. classic. also if this is a choise, why so many fines to not use it?
This debate is very sad in and of itself. The fact people are denying others healthcare for profit is pretty shocking. Whats even more shocking is the fact this is even being looked at as a debate. Goes to show crazy people have way to much influence on our scociety. Not to mention the fact the rich can so easily turn the poor on themselves in defense of the rich peoples agenda its just amazing.
Greed is "An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth". Given that people's contractual agreements with their insurance companies are being broken by those companies, I'd say those profits are not deserved. Given that those companies already were posting good returns, I'd say those profits were not needed. So yes, those companies and their officers are GREEDY.

I still can't under stand it still. greed is not wanting to keep what you (me) have, its taking it from me and giving it to those who dont earn it. the government is greedy. all this does is enflame those who are zero libality voters who dont care about taxes because they pay none or insurance. so yea this is to help those greedy folks take from those who earn it.
also love the debate ed had with wilkow...oh yea.. too chicken to debate. love you ed
I really have a hard time understanding why so many people support the private, for-profit health insurance industry. We are the only industrialized country in the world that does not provide healthcare as a basic human right. We also pay more for healthcare per capita than any other country on the planet, yet our average life expectancy sucks. We're #50 in the world. Canada, with its evil socialized medicine is ranked #8. Our lives should not be a for-profit enterprise.
Thanks Ed, and Mr Greenwald. I've just returned from visiting relatives in Canada--all getting state the art health care--tiemly, high tech and humane. No medical bill ever arrives. They pay slightly more in taxes but end up with more disposable income because their . wages are not eaten up with co-pays deductibles, etc.
As to the "live free" folks--I'd suggest that Canadians are living mighty free--and free from the worry of medical bankruptcy.
thom hartman uses this right for socialism and the thing is that fire and police is local government. not national government. like if states want to vote them selves Obama care in their state they can. the human right most talk about is taking the rights of some to live free and gives it to those who give nothen for it
why are so many jelous of profit? why is class warfare so popular for the left? I dont mind beening low class. I am happy to be where I'm at in this country. why wont ed debate wilkow or mike church. did he not offer to pay some one to come on his show? oh yea, hes too chicken.
How about we make police and fire protection "for profit", litstomper? Health care is a basic human RIGHT in the rest of the industrialized western world.
No, healthcare isn't a natural right.....but when a country chooses to make it a right in a country, recognizing that the profit motive isn't how health care decisions should be made. I've been 50 years as a health care professional, and am well aware of many of the unwarrented denials from Insurance companies.
Jealous of profits? You have to be kidding. Are you even aware of what's going on? These profits that we are so jealous of come from denying claims, which result in people dying unnecessarily. PacifiCare alone has denied 39.6% of all claims over the past year. Maybe you're ok with paying thousands of dollars a year for health insurance and then having claims denied when you get sick (and you WILL eventually), but most rational people are not.
The Ed show is equal to the O'Reilly show except for it's geared for the other side of the extreme ideas. Ignorance is wrong no matter what side it is pointed towards.
Ok, I think I see part of the problem with this debate. According to a new poll, 39% of Americans do not understand that Medicare is a government run insurance program.
To those who don't know that fact, let me ask you this: have you ever wondered about that line item on your paycheck for Medicare? Did you think Medicare was a private company that gets part of your paycheck?
Jesus would call for Universal Health care. Profiting from the sick is immoral. The government runs fire dept., police, post office, medicare, veteran's hospitals...why not health care? it'll save money and lives.
It would be no different then what the government provides now when it comes to fire dept. police, picking up your trash, making sure you have clean drinking water, providing roads to travel on, public schools, the Veteran hospitals....and so much other social services that we all benefit from.
Most of the services you just pointed out are paid for by local taxes that we as the people of each state do have a greater say in what we need and what we don't. The role of the federal government as spelled out in the constitution is to protect our liberties or our rights and to protect our borders. When they say that medicare is broke what does that mean to people? Does that mean it's okay to be broke because it is a government run institution that can run on deficit forever?
Some Federal taxes go back to local communities. My taxes pay for abortions and public schools. I have no kids and I am against abortion. But I am not complaining. The Constitution also says the Federal gov't must provide for our welfare. Health care should be a part of our welfare. If we didn't have wars or wasteful spending like planes the Pentagon doesn't want then we could afford universal health care and so much more that would benefit all Americans.
Oh..boo hoo...my taxes pay for things I don't use..I don't drive on all the roads that my taxes pay for...
Health care for the whole country should be put in the hands of the ones you say build planes that they don't even use? Surely I agree there is to much waste in the federal government and if they could cut back on that waste and give us some more of our own money back then we might be able to afford the basic needs that some cannot now. This is a issue of principals.
Let the people have their money back that they earn and then we all should be able to afford a better standard of living. They could even add a tax to some of those products or services that we purchase and still be able to cover their own costs. It's been researched that the federal government could charge a 1% tax on all purchases and be able to support itself as it currently is. Sure we need to stop wasting money on war and other fraudulent sources but I don't see that happening yet...
(part 1 of 3) Republicans Should Like National Health Care for the Same Reasons They Like Tax Cuts. National Health Care will SAVE money and generate MORE tax revenue from: (1) the many small businesses that will start up from people who want to start one but are frightened of the health care costs for employees and from the many people who are unable to leave jobs because of feeling they will not be able to afford, or even be able to get, health insurance.
(part 2 of 3) National Health Care will SAVE money and generate MORE tax revenue from: (2) the many people who are currently on disability who would like to move back into the work force but are scared that if they get back in the work force or start a small business that they will not be able to get or afford health insurance. This also reduces government disability expenses. (3) the greater productivity due to fewer hours wasted and less stress dealing with insurance companies.
(part 3 of 3) National Health Care will SAVE money and generate MORE tax revenue from: (4) greater productivity due to netter health and fewer sick days. (5) having fewer bankruptcies which will improve the profitability of companies and maintain the financial strength of families. Over 60% of bankruptcies are due to medical bills and over 75% of those had health insurance!
It's not just the CEO's mansions, Mr Greenwald. It's the duty to serve shareholders and Wall Street investors. The less money HMO's spend on our health care, the higher their stock goes. A simple case of market logic. You can't expect a shark to go vegetarian. Check out Wendell Potter's conversation with Bill Moyer.
The Pentagon cannot account for 25% of its budget, loses trillions, yet the Republicans want to give it even more money!
These are the same people who oppose public healthcare (because they say we can't afford it) and scream about socialism.
The irony is that the Pentagon is the most incompetent and wasteful government bureaucracy on the planet, is zealously endorsed by the supposedly anti-big government Republicans.
What you failed to point out is our president has given them more money for war and last I checked he wasn't a republican. Guess what else? I don't want big government to become bigger with this fear tactic and health care reform and I'm not a republican.
Does the IRS consider unvested/unexercised stock options as income? Does it make sense to consider them in a yearly income calculation or any income calculation over time when they are not earned every year/hour/minute?
To be clear, I am NOT for insurance companies at all. I just think that legitimate, cogent arguments should be made.
The only form of justice would be if this company went completely broke, then the stocks would be worthless. I would consider his options an asset, that goes to the bottom line, of wealth. Or are you not counting it -for your argument?
I am not making an argument, yet, I asked a question.
The 'arguments' made about this guy's income are based on income over time, x per year etc. Does the IRS tax you based on unvested/unexercised stock options? If so, they would be taxing you each/every year on something you are not earning each/every year. Unless they tax you when you receive the stocks...and again when you vest them? They would also be taxing you on money you have not received yet. I am just asking questions.
If you ask me... all "banking" and "insurance" has to become public business... as in "only ever" working in the public interest.
Otherwise you end up with exponential distributions of wellfare... meaning: a few incredibly "rich" bastards manipulating and controlling the well-being of almost everyone else merely (and that is what sucks) by owning the (blood[y]) money.
This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the Dept. of Energy. I then took a shower in clean water provided by the municipal water utility. I then turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to check the local weather forecast provided by the National Weather Service using satellites launched by NASA. I ate my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food.
(cont) At the appropriate time as regulated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, I get into my NHTSA-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, stopping to purchase fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using money printed by the US Treasury. On the way out the door I deposit my mail for pickup by the US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day not being injured at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the OSHA, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it's valuables thanks to the local police department.
Folks you have to really stop being so fox stupid. What is wrong with you conservatives. They get paid on the deaths of common people and yet you conservatives support them like lemmings.
Those are two completely unrelated statistics. The $3.2 million is his compensation, whereas the $102,742 /hour is his earnings. And your $300,000 per hour stat doesn't exist. :)
In his introduction, he is still ignoring the fact that there are many democrat voters who are against the bill but blames all the opposition on the Reps and other right wingers. Pretty biased. The insurance companies should be gutted but they are probably well and truly in bed with the government
uninsured for years through our policies and hospital stays......we need REFORM NOW so
that our policies will have lower premiums...is everyone stupid to accept the status quo....insurance companies have been raping your wallets for years due to lack of reform.
virtually every cure for every "dis ease" is available from nature and alternative therapies .. the medical parasites do everything they can to make sure you dont know about them the medical industry could be downsized 90% if this info was allowed to go mainstream medicaid and medicare have been milked dry so the parasites need new hosts mandated by law...(your paycheck)
President Obama would not be so cool if he didn't already have something up his sleeve just like he did during the 08' election that got him into office in the first place.
Republicans are simply STUPID and breed even more stupidty with their lies that are quickly showing the growing majority that if they're lying about so called "death panels", then they're lying about everything else.
We didn't buy your lies last November and we're NOT buying this time either.

WILL YOU GO TO HEAVEN? Here is a quick test, have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen something? Jesus said if you look at a person with lust(sexual thought), you commit adultery in the heart. If you have done these things, you are heading for Hell. That is not Gods will. God sent Jesus to take the punishment on the cross for our sins, so that if you repent(turn away from sin) and trust in Jesus as your lord and savior, God will forgive every sin you ever committed and grant you Heaven.
WOW that's a lot of money!!! Damn I wish I would have gone to Harvard. News reporters make a lot too. How much does Robert Greenwald make. Who the hell told those people could make that much money. WOW Who is going to pay the taxes--OH THESE GUYS PAY 80% of THE NATION'S TAXES?? Oh now the MIDDLE CLASS will pick up the tab for the new health care plan. THANK YOU for clearing this up.
WOW who in his right mind writes full of juvenile poop shit only because they had missed the message of this video: profit made by denying patients. Go watch FOX news, where they lower the standard of journalism to suit your imbecility.

Just dump ALL the government agencies and regulations and let that whole 'free market' take care of US because we all know that the mega-corporations have our best interests in mind, right?
They would NEVER do anything, or market anything that would do us any harm just to make a buck, right?
To Hell with government, right?
Who needs them?
We sure don't, right?
Those fucking communists!!
I hate communists and that's why I shop at Wal-Mart because it's American!!
You are a stupid liberal who just made a really stupid point. FDA/FCC/EPA/etc. are important organizations but they don't cost trillions of dollars a year to maintain. The FDA costs $3 billion a year which is pretty much what it cost for that horrible cash for clunkers program. EPA costs $10.5 billion which ain't that much. We don't need a $4 trillion budget sucked away from taxpayers!
$45 billion in federal spending but public schools get a significant amount of their revenue from state and local taxes. the useless stimulus bill which averaged $200,000 per job even though some jobs were only for a few hours could've funded federal education spending for at least 15 years!
And you're a fucking idiot right wing corporate cocksucker. You conservatives want it all, like having your cake and eating it too with medicare/medicaid and every other program that actually helps people somehow is NOT socialism, but everything introduced for national coverage IS socialism.
Well, that's just too fucking bad for you because this health care reform is GOING to be passed through reconciliation and i'm just BETTING that there's a hidden element to make it deficit neutral.
The republican position is there's a better way to cover people at affordable costs than a government run health care by using the free market. If you look at medical procedures that the government does not regulate or get involved in like plastic surgery, breast augmentation, and hair transplants, costs have actually GONE DOWN. Once again you are just saying baseless things. And your "hidden element" argument is beyond stupid. Even the non-partisan CBO says this reform will be in deficit.
It's simple actually. The Dems make a total partisan bill and clip all the Repug amendment fat added to it and presto - instant deficit neutral bill that passes and is signed into law by a partisan vote.
I'll state here and now that i'll bet my YT account against yours that before the end of this year there will be a passed HR 3200 and it will have ALL the 'goodies' the Dems wanted out of it in the first place.
Haha!! That's what I call bi-partisanship that Obama was talking about! :-). say bye to the independent vote. this far left president won't last more than 1 term
You're the same dumbshits that were so bent on the idea that there would NEVER be an african-american president, especially with name like Barack Hussein Obama. Well, you called that one wrong and now everything that vomits from your lying mouths is just that; vomit.
No one trusts the republican party anymore save for the 'tea baggers' and REAL AMERICANS see through all that nonsense.
You're in the minority, dipshit.
No matter how you try to spin it with your far right talking points.
One day I will be a CEO of my own health care program. Guess what! I will get paid the same as anyone else who works for me. Yeah, I don't see any ungreedy CEO. America is full of these shitty CEOs.
Special Ed doesn't understand that the insurance business would fail if it did not provide the services it promises. This is not true of government run programs which are often failures. The high costs of health care can mostly be attributed to government interference, so more government interference would be idiotic. Why is Ed so stupid?
If health care reform is not passed this time around, then all of the conservatives are effectively telling the corporate insurance complex that it's OK to continue fucking them over and raising their premiums and then deny them coverage when they actually need it.
They say they don't like 'socialism', so let's just get rid of medicare/medicaid, public schools, social security, cops, firemen and expect your utility rates to skyrocket because NO FEDERAL REGULATIONS.
That is not the argument that Republicans/Conservatives are making. You are just as bad if not worse as the town hall loonies for saying something that is just not true. conservatives are looking for alternative options rather than a government plan that will more likely than not not be efficient just like nearly everything else the government tries to manage.
No, there wasn't. But when you go begging to the Feds for a handout of taxpayer cash and agree that if you fail to make good on it that the taxpayers own you, then that is an enforceable contract. Do you think they should be able to just take the money and run?
Ok, here's what the forefathers said: US Constitution, Article 1, section 8:
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;"
The "general Welfare" clause is what allows Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to exist. A government healthcare option is no different.
It also states that there is a "right to life" clause, meaning insurance companies are duly obligated under the constitution to preserve and defend life"/ does it seem like that is happening? If you go to Iwrack, every man, women and child is covered under a universal health care plan. Guess who paid for it? You, the taxpayer.
You're retarded. In 1965 Medicare was budgeted to be $9 billion in 2000. In 2000, it was $67 billion. The government was off by $58 billion. Medicare last 10 years cost $400 million and it covered senior citizens which make up an 8th of our population. The Dems basically want to do Medicare for everybody, which comes out to $3.2 trillion over 10 years. That number is FAR off the $1 trillion Obama is supporting, even though we don't have $1 trillion to spend. Get your facts straight
The Post Office sucks compared to FedEx/UPS. Health care will be a far bigger project than the post office and will be a huge screw up cause the government can't manage anything
palmtree4588: You bring up an interesting point. FedEx is far a better service than USPS - but it costs about 20x as much. That's the whole point. If you can afford to pay the premium, you go to FedEX, but if you can't, you can still send mail through USPS. Federal option for health care is the same idea. It won't be premium health care coverage, but it be far more affordable - allowing EVERYONE to have health coverage.
Hey, i'm with you now. I give up fighting and agree, but let's not stop here. Why not get rid off ALL government control of our lives as 'free americans'?
In fact, let's just have the corporations running the country since they know what is good for everyone.
We don't need the FDA, FCC, FAA, EPA, or any other government agengy telling US what we can and cannot do.
If the corporations say it's good, then it must be good, right?
umm, that sounds like you prefer COMMUNISM as a economic system. Funny part is even fewer folks get money in communism and its headed to failure. Why do you hate America so much??

For my boi ED, wannbe girl so I refer to it in bitch terms, there is only one thing that sends shivers up her leg more than hearing the voice of her Goddess obama and that is spreading lies to help psychotic nuts, other elitist whores like obama. Bitch ED can suck a golf ball through a mile of water hose especially if the hose is a dark green one. Anybody need a date? But he is my boi bitch so I have to protect the bitch. It is simply sad that she is so stupid. Call me if you need a date
Today's insurance industry grew out of the projection rackets by the mob in the 20's and 30's! Instead of torching mom and pop's store for failing to pay for protection, they wised up and said, "gee, we could screw over every single person in the country and get filthy rich and it would be legal!
The Republican party is still controlled by criminals!
The problem is you will NEVER see this or hear of it on the right wing lies and liar sites like FOX NEWS, Limbaugh, etc. As a result, the right wing radical crazies will never see or hear it either. When weak minded dolts like the idiots disrupting the meeting ONLY hear one side...paid off by the for profit health care industry...then their minds are made up because they don't have the mental capacity to question the lies.
59% of Americans not only support health care reform but believe a single-payer system like Canada's is best. If those 177 million Americans called, wrote, visited and emailed their Congressional representatives nonstop, I guaranteed you it wouldn't matter how much the insurance mafia bribed them.
There will never be change as long as the insurance lobby can donate or "buy" American politicians. It's absolutly amazing this is allowed to happen. Powerful lobbies run the show and have for decades.
Actually, there will never be change until the American sheeple stand up and demand it. Obama said as much. Just like with Lyndon Johnson and equal rights, Obama can't do anything without a popular mandate. Congress is being stupid. If they voted for single payer health care, or even a public option, they would get reelected forever regardless of how many war chests were piled up against them.
$849,000+ per DAY to put it into a better perspective for you!!!! For a 40 hour work week, that is 51 weeks per year for a total of $43,299,000 per year. Somebody's math is way off. I think they left the 4 off of his annual salary of $43 MILLION! Now are you perturbed? I sure as hell am!
living in Thailand I learned that the cost for surgery cost less the an emergency visit in the states. That counts the room and operation, complete! So where is the money really going ... the drug companies and the lawyers! Learn the truth before you buy into anything!
Bravo renijohn, that is the real issue, do we want an insurance company bail out or not, the obvious answer is that we have had enough...no degree needed.
Because too many of us get our news from right wing propaganda sources that tell us about teh evils of socialism and how free market capitalism is teh awesome, and we believe it because we're dumb.
What you don't understand is that profits are the result of approval by the people. The more people approve of a businesses goods or services that produce or perform, the more profit they make. A free society cannot separate people from profits. Gov involvement in HC is what has driven the prices up. Just llok at elective HC costs, they have gone down while the quality has risen. Restore the free market to HC, get gov completely out of it,including Medicare and Medicaid. We're broke
People are held hostage by insurance companies. We are not showing support for their policies by continuing to pay premiums. We have no choice. That is why the public option must be passed...to provide an option. In this way, costs and premiums can be lowered. I receive VA care (gov't program) and can tell you that it is superior to anything I experienced in the private sector, and at a small fraction of the cost. Does anyone choose to reject Medicare? NO! Why? Because it works!
Insurance is a scam, and always has been. If they're making a profit, it means their taking in more money than they're giving out. People are essential paying them to hold on to their money for them. And by this video, it looks like they're not holding on to very much.
The truth is, our current healthcare system is unsustainable and hurting our country in many ways. It's making our businesses less competitive, it's making our population less healthy, etc...
so giving all rights up and believing everything the government says is good? keep your trust that they will do right and i see you also will believe that 9/11 was as shown by the media too.
Typical delusional nonsequitur; The government to fear was just evicted last fall. Now the government to fear is the one Americans fail to participate in. WE ARE "THE GOVERNMENT" so if "the government" is screwing us then we are to blame.
Insurance in general is not a "scam", in its pure form it is a group of people looking out for each other. Remember the Amish barn raising? If one fafmer's barn burns down, the whole community rallies together and rebuilds it. That's how insurance is supposed to work. It isn't insurance that's the problem, it's lack of a neutral referee.
actually the insurers sometimes take more rish than they should. I know that these huuricanes could wipe out even the strongest. Two things that should change is lawyers need to be cut off from ripping off business, and govt handouts should be stopped altogether
I have to slap anyone on the back who makes the effort to participate. Good for you!
Like any other profession there are lawyers who are crooks and/or dummies as well as honest and competent ones. We need experts like them to be sure legislative intent is fulfilled and justice served. We don't need them building in abusive provisions to the benefit of their corporate clients, or suing good companies for trivial "offenses". Health insurers? Dissolve 'em all!
I think you're in for a big surprise Mr. Dillon. Americans are going to stand up and rescue themselves from this corrupt, perverted system no matter how much cash the insurance industry pumps out.
Remember how many troops you righties supported in killing?

Umm. The last time I checked, nobody was FORCED to use United as their insurer. If you don't like the way they run things, go elsewhere.
People complain all the time about CEO compensation, but don't really care when their favorite sports person signs a $200 million contract.
m015094 2 years ago
Clearly a shill. You have a choice between providers. However the insurers use price gouging. Thus their is no competition or real choice. That is not democracy or capitalism. It is closer to fascism. It is a monopoly by the insurers. The douche bags who say they don't want the govern. between them, and their DR. need to ask themselves "Do I want an Insurance company (aimed at profit) between me and my doctor?". That is what happens, an insurance agent not a DR. decides what your entitled to.
theCONscience00 2 years ago
Yes, I'm a shill and I was hired by the insurance companies to post shit on youtube. Add that to your conspiracy list.
The insurance companies operate on 3-6% net revenue (profit) which is on par with most major industries. You wouldn't want EVERY procedure to be given the green light because then operating costs (and therefore your premium) would rise accordingly. In a gov't system the pay would just come from taxes.

Do you call it a free market to keep it monopoly by paying money to the politicians?
allgoo19 2 years ago 4
Jealous of profits? You have to be kidding. Are you even aware of what's going on? These profits that we are so jealous of come from denying claims, which result in people dying unnecessarily. PacifiCare alone has denied 39.6% of all claims over the past year. Maybe you're ok with paying thousands of dollars a year for health insurance and then having claims denied when you get sick (and you WILL eventually), but most rational people are not.

Jesus would call for Universal Health care. Profiting from the sick is immoral. The government runs fire dept., police, post office, medicare, veteran's hospitals...why not health care? it'll save money and lives.
checkurself 2 years ago 14
So universal health care provides no profit?
pitbrand 2 years ago
It would be no different then what the government provides now when it comes to fire dept. police, picking up your trash, making sure you have clean drinking water, providing roads to travel on, public schools, the Veteran hospitals....and so much other social services that we all benefit from.
checkurself 2 years ago
Most of the services you just pointed out are paid for by local taxes that we as the people of each state do have a greater say in what we need and what we don't. The role of the federal government as spelled out in the constitution is to protect our liberties or our rights and to protect our borders. When they say that medicare is broke what does that mean to people? Does that mean it's okay to be broke because it is a government run institution that can run on deficit forever?
pitbrand 2 years ago
Some Federal taxes go back to local communities. My taxes pay for abortions and public schools. I have no kids and I am against abortion. But I am not complaining. The Constitution also says the Federal gov't must provide for our welfare. Health care should be a part of our welfare. If we didn't have wars or wasteful spending like planes the Pentagon doesn't want then we could afford universal health care and so much more that would benefit all Americans.
checkurself 2 years ago
Oh..boo hoo...my taxes pay for things I don't use..I don't drive on all the roads that my taxes pay for...
Health care for the whole country should be put in the hands of the ones you say build planes that they don't even use? Surely I agree there is to much waste in the federal government and if they could cut back on that waste and give us some more of our own money back then we might be able to afford the basic needs that some cannot now. This is a issue of principals.
pitbrand 2 years ago
Let the people have their money back that they earn and then we all should be able to afford a better standard of living. They could even add a tax to some of those products or services that we purchase and still be able to cover their own costs. It's been researched that the federal government could charge a 1% tax on all purchases and be able to support itself as it currently is. Sure we need to stop wasting money on war and other fraudulent sources but I don't see that happening yet...

(part 1 of 3) Republicans Should Like National Health Care for the Same Reasons They Like Tax Cuts. National Health Care will SAVE money and generate MORE tax revenue from: (1) the many small businesses that will start up from people who want to start one but are frightened of the health care costs for employees and from the many people who are unable to leave jobs because of feeling they will not be able to afford, or even be able to get, health insurance.
howardtayl 2 years ago 4
(part 2 of 3) National Health Care will SAVE money and generate MORE tax revenue from: (2) the many people who are currently on disability who would like to move back into the work force but are scared that if they get back in the work force or start a small business that they will not be able to get or afford health insurance. This also reduces government disability expenses. (3) the greater productivity due to fewer hours wasted and less stress dealing with insurance companies.
howardtayl 2 years ago 4
(part 3 of 3) National Health Care will SAVE money and generate MORE tax revenue from: (4) greater productivity due to netter health and fewer sick days. (5) having fewer bankruptcies which will improve the profitability of companies and maintain the financial strength of families. Over 60% of bankruptcies are due to medical bills and over 75% of those had health insurance!

It's not just the CEO's mansions, Mr Greenwald. It's the duty to serve shareholders and Wall Street investors. The less money HMO's spend on our health care, the higher their stock goes. Does the IRS consider unvested/unexercised stock options as income? Does it make sense to consider them in a yearly income calculation or any income calculation over time when they are not earned every year/hour/minute?
To be clear, I am NOT for insurance companies at all. I just think that legitimate, cogent arguments should be made.
itry2brational 2 years ago
The only form of justice would be if this company went completely broke, then the stocks would be worthless. I would consider his options an asset, that goes to the bottom line, of wealth. Or are you not counting it -for your argument?
12dogpal 2 years ago
I am not making an argument, yet, I asked a question.
The 'arguments' made about this guy's income are based on income over time, x per year etc. Does the IRS tax you based on unvested/unexercised stock options? If so, they would be taxing you each/every year on something you are not earning each/every year. Unless they tax you when you receive the stocks...and again when you vest them? They would also be taxing you on money you have not received yet. I am just asking questions.

$45 billion in federal spending but public schools get a significant amount of their revenue from state and local taxes. the useless stimulus bill which averaged $200,000 per job even though some jobs were only for a few hours could've funded federal education spending for at least 15 years!
palmtree4588 2 years ago
And you're a fucking idiot right wing corporate cocksucker. You conservatives want it all, like having your cake and eating it too with medicare/medicaid and every other program that actually helps people somehow is NOT socialism, but everything introduced for national coverage IS socialism.
Well, that's just too fucking bad for you because this health care reform is GOING to be passed through reconciliation and i'm just BETTING that there's a hidden element to make it deficit neutral.
mrburningone 2 years ago
The republican position is there's a better way to cover people at affordable costs than a government run health care by using the free market. If you look at medical procedures that the government does not regulate or get involved in like plastic surgery, breast augmentation, and hair transplants, costs have actually GONE DOWN. Once again you are just saying baseless things. And your "hidden element" argument is beyond stupid. Even the non-partisan CBO says this reform will be in deficit.
palmtree4588 2 years ago
It's simple actually. The Dems make a total partisan bill and clip all the Repug amendment fat added to it and presto - instant deficit neutral bill that passes and is signed into law by a partisan vote.
I'll state here and now that i'll bet my YT account against yours that before the end of this year there will be a passed HR 3200 and it will have ALL the 'goodies' the Dems wanted out of it in the first place.

Why should I have to pay for a Health Department going to a restaurant that I want to eat at and say if it's clean enough, or not?
Why should I have to pay for someone watching the skies around me with flight plans?

Yeah, that will work.
mrburningone 2 years ago 2
That is not the argument that Republicans/Conservatives are making. You are just as bad if not worse as the town hall loonies for saying something that is just not true. conservatives are looking for alternative options rather than a government plan that will more likely than not not be efficient just like nearly everything else the government tries to manage.
palmtree4588 2 years ago
was there a "public takeover" in the constitution?
NO. When in doubt look to the forefathers
compassionrepublican 2 years ago
No, there wasn't. But when you go begging to the Feds for a handout of taxpayer cash and agree that if you fail to make good on it that the taxpayers own you, then that is an enforceable contract. Do you think they should be able to just take the money and run?
duellg 2 years ago
"When in doubt look to the forefathers"
Ok, here's what the forefathers said: US Constitution, Article 1, section 8:
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;"
The "general Welfare" clause is what allows Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to exist. A government healthcare option is no different.
dilireus 2 years ago
It also states that there is a "right to life" clause, meaning insurance companies are duly obligated under the constitution to preserve and defend life"/ does it seem like that is happening? If you go to Iwrack, every man, women and child is covered under a universal health care plan. Guess who paid for it? You, the taxpayer.
12dogpal 2 years ago
Medicare's overhead is 3% compared to private health insurance of 20 to 40%.
Kinda blows your "government's inefficient" argument out of the water.
djacobox372 2 years ago 2
You're retarded. In 1965 Medicare was budgeted to be $9 billion in 2000. In 2000, it was $67 billion. The government was off by $58 billion. Medicare last 10 years cost $400 million and it covered senior citizens which make up an 8th of our population. The Dems basically want to do Medicare for everybody, which comes out to $3.2 trillion over 10 years. That number is FAR off the $1 trillion Obama is supporting, even though we don't have $1 trillion to spend. Get your facts straight
palmtree4588 2 years ago
The Post Office sucks compared to FedEx/UPS. Health care will be a far bigger project than the post office and will be a huge screw up cause the government can't manage anything
palmtree4588 2 years ago
palmtree4588: You bring up an interesting point. FedEx is far a better service than USPS - but it costs about 20x as much. That's the whole point. If you can afford to pay the premium, you go to FedEX, but if you can't, you can still send mail through USPS. Federal option for health care is the same idea. It won't be premium health care coverage, but it be far more affordable - allowing EVERYONE to have health coverage.
greymatter212 2 years ago 2
Hey, i'm with you now. I give up fighting and agree, but let's not stop here. Why not get rid off ALL government control of our lives as 'free americans'?
In fact, let's just have the corporations running the country since they know what is good for everyone.
We don't need the FDA, FCC, FAA, EPA, or any other government agengy telling US what we can and cannot do.
If the corporations say it's good, then it must be good, right?

If those 177 million Americans called, wrote, visited and emailed their Congressional representatives nonstop, I guaranteed you it wouldn't matter how much the insurance mafia bribed them.
duellg 2 years ago 3
Ed you are good but Kieth Olbermann is better.
captcrais101 2 years ago
There will never be change as long as the insurance lobby can donate or "buy" American politicians. It's absolutly amazing this is allowed to happen. Powerful lobbies run the show and have for decades.
siziam 2 years ago 5
Actually, there will never be change until the American sheeple stand up and demand it. Obama said as much. Just like with Lyndon Johnson and equal rights, Obama can't do anything without a popular mandate. Congress is being stupid. If they voted for single payer health care, or even a public option, they would get reelected forever regardless of how many war chests were piled up against them.

There will be no Public Option.
Costs will continue to go up.

Because too many of us get our news from right wing propaganda sources that tell us about teh evils of socialism and how free market capitalism is teh awesome, and we believe it because we're dumb.
dilireus 2 years ago 2
@renijohn
We're broke
jjrglobal 2 years ago
jjr:
People are held hostage by insurance companies. We are not showing support for their policies by continuing to pay premiums. We have no choice. That is why the public option must be passed...to provide an option. In this way, costs and premiums can be lowered. I receive VA care (gov't program) and can tell you that it is superior to anything I experienced in the private sector, and at a small fraction of the cost. Does anyone choose to reject Medicare? NO! Why? Because it works!
kgabe1 2 years ago 2
Insurance is a scam, and always has been. If they're making a profit, it means their taking in more money than they're giving out. People are essential paying them to hold on to their money for them. And by this video, it looks like they're not holding on to very much.
The truth is, our current healthcare system is unsustainable and hurting our country in many ways. It's making our businesses less competitive, it's making our population less healthy, etc...

Typical delusional nonsequitur; The government to fear was just evicted last fall. Now the government to fear is the one Americans fail to participate in. WE ARE "THE GOVERNMENT" so if "the government" is screwing us then we are to blame.
duellg 2 years ago
Absolutely, duellg.
Citizens need to take control of the government, not destroy it.
MarquisdeBarrabas 2 years ago 2
Insurance in general is not a "scam", in its pure form it is a group of people looking out for each other. Remember the Amish barn raising? If one fafmer's barn burns down, the whole community rallies together and rebuilds it. That's how insurance is supposed to work. It isn't insurance that's the problem, it's lack of a neutral referee.
duellg 2 years ago
actually the insurers sometimes take more rish than they should. I know that these huuricanes could wipe out even the strongest. Two things that should change is lawyers need to be cut off from ripping off business, and govt handouts should be stopped altogether
compassionrepublican 2 years ago
I have to slap anyone on the back who makes the effort to participate. Good for you!
Like any other profession there are lawyers who are crooks and/or dummies as well as honest and competent ones. We need experts like them to be sure legislative intent is fulfilled and justice served. We don't need them building in abusive provisions to the benefit of their corporate clients, or suing good companies for trivial "offenses". Health insurers? Dissolve 'em all!
