Just for comparison, give a listen to the Pacific Gas and Electric version of this song; it has a lot more "punch." Charlie Allen on vocals and Glenn Schwartz on lead guitar.
I'm not even from Detroit, I hail from a little place called Romeo and yet I take everything that goes on down there very personally and absolutely adore all the music that came out from the city if it be Mitch Ryder or the MC5 or even the Stooges. This song reflects on what Detroit is, the cops will never fucking get it right.
God Bless Johnny Lee. We love you. A Detroit native who birthed the raw, merciless and soulful motor city sound and enlightened the world with untaimed creativity

John Lee Hooker was born in Clarksville, Mississippi. He moved to Detroit and then became famous.
In 1967 Detroit was on fire, as were a lot of cities in the U.S.
