@TheCoughlm, it might have had something to do with the fact that Jimi had recorded a song called "Voodoo Child" around the same time, and his "Slight Return" version was a spontaneous jam based on the earlier song, which was much slower and bluesier, but equally awesome! So it was like he more or less returned, 'slightly", to the theme of the original.

Dick Dale played a left handed Fender Stratocaster since the 50s. Left handed Strats were available but for whatever reason Jimi Hendrix either preferred or simply found it expedient to use a right handed Strat upside-down. He did reverse the strings though.
