This is not the story about the celtic sword excalibur its the story about the sarmatian knights and the tribun atorius castor the comander of the knights
Although MANY people say this story is historically flawed, I disagree entirely. There is no proof that Arthur wasn't Roman, that Guinevere wasn't a warrior, etc... This take on King Arthur is far more realistic than the original tale of the magician Merlin and the magic sword excalibur. The only proof historians have are pieces of paper, documented hundreads of years ago. We are in no position to differ truth from false. All we have are the beliefs that ancestors created.
It had to be the Director's Cut though. It is 30 minutes longer, but there is waaaaaaaaay more character development and being unrated has no problem with lots of bloody battle footage. In the PG-13 version half the battle footage was cut out from the first and final fights! So it was cool to see them there.
I actually enjoyed this movie. Yes it was very flawed historically, but it was still fun to watch. Plus it's better than the wannabe of this The Last Legion. That was based off a good book I know, but it was basically just like this only just plain terrible. I thought the cast was great. Stellan Skarsgard was a really good bad guy! WHich is why he should have been Davy Jones instead of Bootstrap (although I suppose he works for that too and Bill Nighy was good). Keira was cool as a warrior!
i beg to differ. history shows that there was indeed an an arthur castas who was roman and did lead a couple thousands of sarmatians. roman did in fact enslave sarmatia around that time period. of course hollywood throws in its little inacurate quirks, but the history is still the same. the story line however, not so much. i mean come on, if you think about it, a roman family living that far north of hadrian's wall, if even north at all! they would be done for in two weeks tops after settling.
I studied Dark Age period. First of all, Arthur in the movie uses the word God many times, but he was not a christian (was despised by them and considered a pegan). Nor did he believe in old British Gods. Second, Tristan was burned at stake for having slept with his father's 15 year old 6th wife. Third, Guinevere was no warrior, but did put some arrows into a Saxon "magician" and some saxons from a fortress wall. Fourth, Lancelot was a coward and never fought, tried to betray Arthur. etc etc
Also, Excalibur (not real name of the sword) was given to Arthur by Merlin and not pulled out of a stone, it was however one of Britains 13 treasures to bring back the God's that would drive the saxon forces off the island. I forgot to mention Guinevere's bow and arrow abilities below, well, she knew how to use a Hunting Bow.Remember guys, Hollywood love to add their own little mix but I read all books even in old English and reality was different but the movie honored him at least which is good
i wasn't talking about arthur pendragon. thought your knowledge is indeed impressive and acurate i can agree on somethings. the knights no doubt were not around when arthur castas was protecting britain, and were most likely not sarmatian considering that tristan inreality came from cornwall. like i said before, hollywood did throw in its little quirks. im not completely against you, just specifying that not all is fake.
hehe, if people just knew that the famous round table of the "knights of the round table" (where Arthur supposedly offered an oath to all his warlords never to fight each other again) was on that day a table full of food left overs, vomit and other filhty things since a feast happened just before that oath, while in the movies the table is protrayed as a beautiful round big table hehe. The Arthur Legends, and British history in general, should never be forgotten. The bow and arrow as well ;)
ROME SUCKS NO MATTER WHAT. they are horrible they raid for pleasure and emperor and half of thm wer gay! the scottish could easily beat them cuz they have heart the scots also had tactics instead of plain brutality.thats the difference betweer the two.
Are u kidding me? The Romans had STUNNING tactics! And discipline! The Scots were an unorganised bunch of bitches...they got MASSACRED at the battle of Mons Graupius in Scotland. The Romans didnt invade for pleasure either...i have no idea what school u went to but its sad to see they failed u so bad.XD
Dude reading that tells me you are a retard. Rome had the best military sistem from its rise to its fall. They didint raid and pillage like the barbarian tribes they conqured for the might of Rome and for its people. We use alot of Roman inspired and created items and ideas, guess who invented what the base of your house is made of(concrete)? the Romans. Who invented the water pump? The Romans. Who created professional armies? The Romans. You know nothing. SPQR WTF !!!!

the scots NEVER would have been able to repel the romans. Completely impossible. The Scots, from what i know, didnt even have an organised, or trained army. They all just came together in the time of war to fight. The scots were tribal militia, which could never match to the trained roman legions. it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel, the scots would be slaughtered.
In 9 ad a german army destroyed Three Roman legions under the command of P Quinctilius Varnus. The German army was led by Ariminus. The battle took place in the Teutoburg Forest. . . if the germans could do it the scots could as well
the commander of the germanic tribes was schooled by the roman military and used this knowledge to defeat the roman armies. also varus was a fool who was lured into a trap. evidence has been found that the actual battke took place in a clearing in the forest, where the germans had set up fortifications to pevent the romans from deploying correctly. also the gemanic tribes of the time were feared as the extremely tough warriors by the romans.

The Roman Empire did not reach its apex until 100 odd years after the invasion of Britain. So they were not exactly 'washed up' just yet. That didnt start until the middle of the 3rd century AD.
lol ScelticOTLAND.. going back to your comment on killing the romans and vikings, if the Romans were at full stength and concentrated on england they would have taken it over no problem.. the only reason why they stopped at southern england was because they were simultaneously fighting Germanic tribes, and Pathians on a consistent basis. u cant say the Celts could have taken the romans by themselves.
Cool video..It was the angles who settled in Edinburgh. The Saxons were more concentrated in the southern areas of England. They managed to push the Celtic tribes to the fringes (Wales,Cornwall,Brittany, ect) but never conqured the ancient Britains as Y-DNA is now revealing.
theres acturly an arguement that the celts never exsisted,,.. and that they where ritualistic practic .. however the pics (scots) where tuff as nails =D
In the film sure, there is no theory like that that I have personally read from the real world. And while the Romans had them about no evidence I have seen nor heard of to suggest any were in Britain and none left behind.
Read 'From Scythia to Camelot'. That theory has existed in the real world for a WHILE. Really though, the whole sword myth seems way too similar to be a coincidence.
The film had some good moments, but overall it was a little dull. Also, I'm not a great believer in the whole Roman Arthur idea: He's more likely to have been a Celt.
As for the Saxons invading across the Thames.. yes they did that, but also came east to west not just south to north.
It may be true he was Roman certainly at that time it wouldnt be out of place for a Roman trained Briton to rise to power, however why are the Saxons invading through Scotland? Thats no where near the Thames ;)
Weight of numbers is what the Saxons had so don't think that the Scots would have held them off any longer. How you come by this certain knowledge that Arthur was Artorius is interesting. I personally prefer Bernard Cornwalls idea. Arturus Rex Quondam, Rexque Futurus

Arthur Pendragon and his knights never lived only in our imagion.
The valor of the story is for heroiek and bravery, fighting for an other world.
It became an guideline for men and women to dream for a better life, escape for there one lives. La morte Arthur is the oldest version
writing down. Guinevere is maybe not a warrior, but the women are always the last line, to defend there home.
