Why do you see the fact that China didn't put pressure on the Burmese Junta to accept international aid as a good thing? They were by far in the strongest and most influential position to persuade the Junta to do so. Over 130,000 are estimated dead from Cyclone Nargis. This incredibly high death toll could have been prevented had aid been accepted. Apathy is an enabling step for tyranny. The West certainly has it's own record of apathy - Somalia, Zimbabwe, Congo. But do two wrongs make a right?
no you do 4 and youre back at square one, with plenty more eperience in the matter ready to advance straight on. i think bush would have said something like that.
My point is, your looking at this as 'us and them'. Justifying your own governments inaction against Western governments examples of Apathy. If you look at it from outside the prism of your own nationality and unquestioned patriotism, you'll see both are wrong, and essentially at its root protecting commercial interests of the few, at the cost of humanitarianism.
I lived over in Beijing for a year in 2007, and can see how China's become so tunneled visioned by economic growth, their blind to the inequalities and injustices capitalism has created. Mix that with an unaccountable authoritarian dictatorship, and it creates suffering on an even greater scale.
You watch, when China's economic growth dwindles because of the global recession, that tunnel vision will dissipate and your eye's will be opened to what capitalism's left you with, and you won't like what you see.
I really wonder about the west country attitude towards china ,an uk for example both china and UK have challege that the local want to indepent from the centre .when speak of UK ,it is justice to stop the North island independant from UK ,BUT speak of china's govement use nonvilonce means to stop tibet indepent from china it is wrong .why?it is radiculous .why does west countries take double standard?why they use regionand human rights and so called freedom to interfere china 's inner affairs
Well unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about the military regime in Burma but what we can do is go after the bastards that keep them in power like the Chinese. Boycott all Chinese product and see how long the bastards continue to support Burma. Let your wallet do the talking.
Beijing is trying to shield Burma's generals from pressure to let foreign aid workers into the country.
China is adamant the goverment should not interfere in each others internal affairs-reflection of Beijing unease about scrutiny of its own record in Tibet and other areas.
This week Beijing BLOCKED A PROPOSAL to have the U.N humanitarian chief brief the Security Council on Burma saying goverment should not politicize the issue.
I like this lady. She showed the elegancy of traditional Chinese women. However, what she said was trash.
