  • Thanks for the video! Don't understand why 90% of video of presonus made by the strange guy from presonus. Don't like him :(

When mixers are linked - it's not possible to record from, isn't it?

Is it possible to run control software and recording software for the single connected mixer simultaneously?

  • Lol I love at 1:15 it say "how cool is that". Anyway a very informative video that explains a lot of the capabilities of a good sound board!

  • For live applications,

: Is it possible to PFL individual channels during performance through Headphones at the console?

: Also are the sub-groups able to be assigned to the Main-Mix to get more juice out of quieter inputs? ie: a quiet vocalist on a loud stage.

: Is it possible to AFL the Aux outs to listen (via headphones at the console) to what I'm sending on stage?

: Finally, is it possible to PFL the FX returns to hear what I'm sending to the main mix?

    Cheers

  • Total recall?

  • Christian Preamps? Mmmmmmm ....

  • I think the Yamaha 01V96V2 is a good mixer, but there are several very compelling reasons to consider the PreSonus. No, you won't get to use your Digimax preamps but I will say the XMAX preamps are the best available in this price range. You can show others the EQ if you have an iPad or computer running the free control software. One of the cool things about the PreSonus 16.4.2 is it's ability to expand by linking up to (4) mixers together. We've sold several pairs that are out in the field.

  • If I go for a presonus:

I don't get to use my ext digimax preamps,

I don't get a display showing EQ graphs, which are useful when training others in how to EQ constructively without making mush.

The presonus IS expandable - but only if you use their firewire recording interface.

I can not find any examples of anyone who's actually done this, and nothing shows how the fade action behaves when you flip from channels 1-16, over to channels 17 to 24.

Do you have an answer for how this happens?

    JW

  • Here's the challenge:

I just sold my 01v desk to get money to put it towards my 01v96V2... trouble is - the guy who was selling the 01v96v2 - kind of "forgot" he was holding it for me and wen't and sold it.

because the 01v96 2nd hand are rare to go cheap on ebay - I am looking at other desks.

I am in the trade and get discount - but if I weigh up the 01v96 against the presonus - I am not ure I am yet convinced.

The 01v96 is 24 channels with ext ADAT preamps

  • Very good video but let me correct you....

    5:00

The High Pass Filter don't have an ON/OFF button is always ON and if you turn it all way down is OFF. (See the OFF under 24 Hz)

There's no relation between the Phase (that button under the High Pass Knob) and the High Pass filter. Just to clarify that point. ;-)

The new 16.0.2 has the ON button for High Pass Filter, but the 16.4.2 and 24.4.2 dont have it

  • One of the better walk arounds that I have seen regarding this console. Very Nice Job!

  • Hello! What laptop I can used for my 16.4.2 I want to get one but my budget is very low any laptop at low prices but good !!! Thx and have a good day

  • @01fichtner Great Catch! You are absolutely right. Removing the HP filter is done by rotating the encoder knob until the frequency indicator reaches the OFF position. This is the same for both the Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 and Studiolive 24.4.2. The NEW Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 has changed this feature and now has a dedicated ON/OFF button for the HP filter. As for high passing at 100Hz, that's only for vocal mics. I've found that to be a good roll off point to eliminate handling noise.

  • This is a great little mixer!! VERY VERY VERY easy to use!!

  • @nbaudio Glad you feel that way. I think so too. You can get up and running pretty quickly. On the other hand, there are lots of features, and a ton of flexibility that can take a while to learn.

  • 2:03 "First of all the preamps, we all want great preamps, presonus has great preamps, it's the Xmax preamps, presonus is famous for preamps, they used to do preamps and still do preamps" Getting a little excited are we? Haha. Nice demonstration.

  • @dangerale HaHa! Too much repetition is an artifact of doing a 12 minute video in one take. Thanks for the compliment, too. I am excited about the XMAX preamps for live sound work. 30V rails, discrete transistor circuitry. Tons of headroom. These preamps have been proven for years in their preamp only products which we have used with some very high end digital consoles for expansion of the basic input compliment on the main board.

  • @CCISolutions I don't doubt you. I'm very fond of PreSonus as well.. I don't currently own any PreSonus equipment (or very much equipment at all just yet) but I've been in studios that have (ADL 600), and I can't say I've encountered any limitation with PreSonus' products.

  • thats fabulous!

  • its really funny how he throws shit to other consoles lol

  • @joise69 Sorry about that! Didn't mean to imply that other consoles are garbage. There are lots of great digital consoles out there. We've used and specified Yamaha, Avid, A&H, Soundcraft and many other digital consoles. I just think that Presonus has come up with a really compelling value in the $2-3K range. Now, with the Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 coming out in June at around $1299, pros considering a small analog mixer may move up to the advantages of Presonus digital technology.

  • I would be very happy if someone made a video on:

How to assign the A and B effects to a channel.

How to connect the mixer to your computer and capture and getting it recognized by Win 7 64bit.

I wish there was an A to Z video available in your site...

  • I have just bought the StudioLive 16.4.2. and man...

Getting it to work with effects, buses, aux's, and so on is a real nightmare. The hardware might be great, but the manual SUCKS big time. Probably the most user unfriendly manual I've ever come across. Should warn: Learning will take patience...

My PC W7 does not recognize the software, assigning effects to a channel has been impossible yet, even after having read 60 pages. Thumbs down for the manual. 3 days working on it, so far...

  • Hi! I was wondering if this Mixer is compatible with Cubase 5, Cubase 6, and Logic Pro 9?

  • what do u do with mixer?

  • What's the Dynamic Range of the 16.4.2?

  • @anointed01 The 32-bit A/D converters have 118dB of dynamic range.

  • @CCISolutions Thanks for the info

  • But can u link two 24 s That's where the money would b

  • ..but but but you have to buy another console for over 16 channels? Here's to hoping this thing is super cheap because that's quite a hurdle for a digital console

  • Nice Video. We need to run a snake 200 ft. What can we do with this board? Can we use cat 5? Do you sell this option? This would be for a church environment in a gym.

  • Sorry the faders are not motorized. PreSonus said adding motorized faders would have added too much to the selling price.

  • are the faders motorized?

  • hi just like to ask if do still need speaker controller for powered speakers if you use this board on live gigs ?

  • is it only compatible with its own sonftware not cubase not pro tools or others?

  • @ScratSniff

    google.com

  • Yes you can use Ableton! It works Great!

  • Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out here.

    1. I have bought the StudioLive 16.4.2 Digital mixer and of

course it comes with Capture and Studio One Artist.

    2. I have also bought the Upgrade to Studio One Pro.

    3. I've bought a brand new Acer 4 quard (64x), 4gig ram,

    desktop computer.

  • So I need to go to a menue to adjust an EQ? I think I will stick with Allen and Heath Thank you

  • @mordsgaudimachen no you dont, you select the channel and the adjust the eq through the "fat channel"

  • @pepsidude234 Hmm so I can not change the eq on 2 channels at once? I heard that you can link two of these together for a 32 channel mixer... and the firewire recording is cool, but I dont like the layout for a live mix much! Looks good for strictly recording, but not for me

  • im thinking about getting this mixer can it record onto ableton ? or just the presonus daw?

  • could you help me...... how do you bounce down to two track on capture..... to make a .wav.......... ? what is the process

  • Is this mixer compatible with Pro Tools??

  • No, but you should look at the PreSonus StudioOne software package that comes with the StudioLive 16.4.2 mixer. If you want more power upgrade to StudioOne Pro.

  • 32 in total... but you can link 4 studiolive's together for live application. Capture recognizes 32 channel

  • thank you

  • can u record 32 channels on capture if I have a second mixer board or just 16 in total?

  • nice review, mr. We have recently bought this board, and are thrilled with it.

  • The StudioLive is a great audio-interface/digital mixer with fantastic microphone preamps. It will most definitely work with your computer running Sonar. Sonar may have a mixer template or an easy way to configure controller settings that will allow you to control many functions It is so nice to get away from the mouse for many tasks. Take advantage of having a dedicated digital mixer like the pros and still use your software DAW. Call us for our Club Discount Price! 800.562.6006

  • Hi pretty good explanations...rare to see that..the guy knows his work...but well wanna know if it works with sonar..!! and how can I use it..with "soft" plugins...as waves and IK multimedia plugins..compressors reverb etc

  • AMAZING!

  • Hi!

    I already have Cubase,

    I need a digital mixer?

    and why?

    Thank you.
