Looks like the NZ gov't want to send NZ back to the age when you weren't allowed to import cars from Japan. When I first visited NZ in 1988 you had really old cars on the road consisted of a lot of Morris Minors etc. When I lived there in 1995 it completely changed and now they want to backwards again?!

@Eyeonasia1 YES, this is my point exactly! Thank you for your comment, you have understood the point I am trying to make and hit the nail on the head! Please pass links to the show onto every New Zealander you know. This WILL affect everybody living here, this new rule will not work, it will make the cost of living more expensive while clogging our roads with unsafe, more polluting, dilapidated old hunks of junk.

Chris, I feel the 3 car test did not underline your point sufficiently. The different test regimes flashed on-screen briefly, but it would have been better if the 1996 car had failed?

@mikemapperson Thank you for your comment and input Mike, it will be a big help to me in the future. I did expect the 1996 Lucino to fail; however, the fact that it had only done 78,000kms may be a contributing factor to it passing the test. I would be willing to test a 92 to 96 car that has done over 200,000kms if I had the support and access to such vehicles, if you would be willing to aid me, I think we can produce emissions tests that can have more validity and relevance to my message.

In a time where more jobs are needed and common sense should prevail how can the govt reasonably argue for this? I'd like to here what they have to say and put their names to the decision so that when the .... hits the wall next year you can re interview them for follow up comments.....oh also ask them if they are willing to give back their govt cars and or take pay cuts to help pay for the price increases in the used car mkt.

Chris can you not get a panel discussion happening? Mixed with the dealers (like you interviewed) and some govt officials? Invite them to a discussion....if no one turns up can you display on the Car Info Show who didn't turn up and why...e.g. No response etc...

Chris can you ring/meet some govt officials and ask them this question? Ask them if they really expect the person on the street to pay more money for their cars when it's obvious the environment affects are nil or minimal at best. Who's paying who? Are the new car companies in the pocket of the pollies? Who is lobbying for this emissions rule to pass? Chris can you look into this? Is it just the govt wanting to do this because they believe it's a good idea? Absolutely crazy!

Can anyone make an ETF on the used car mkt in NZ? If so I'd be long (buy it) because the prices of cars in NZ are going to go up! The supply of cars in Japan for any market now is low - hence prices are not coming down - if anything they are rising. If NZ restricts the year of cars that can be imported as they say they are going to well....guess what the only way for the prices is up. Can any one working in the government there in NZ tell me that they believe this not to be the case?

and all the old dirty polluting pre catalytic converter cars off our roads. This can be done by having emission testing done on cars when they go for there wof or maybe once a year which will also get people to change there air filter and spark plugs not just oil changes at services as with blocked air filters and old spark plugs emit much higher emissions NO MATTER WHAT THERE EMISSION STANDARD IS !!!!!!

Awesome I just hope that the news media picks up on this as it seems like the government does not care about the quality of the air and the affects this rule will have on the average man in the street, only in there nice new BMW's that did not need replacing, but mainly in the perception of the international community to show that they are making an effort, but not if it is having the desired effect of getting newer cleaner cars on the road.
