It's interesting to hear the man's voice and to get such a candid impression of the man. He is one of those people that you can hear his mind thru his voice. What he says and what he means aren't always the same and you can hear his thoughts.
@pretorious700 try it again! theres a reason he picked both of them! tom and nicole were both in scientology at that time and are both pretty fucked up in the head. and thats what this movie is about, secret societies and 2 really fucked up people. try it again.
@pretorious700 There's a reason Kubrick wanted them: They were Hollywood's couple at the time. The so called "perfect" couple. He asked them for this reason and the whole reason behind Eyes Wide Shut his Kubrick's thought process towards love and relationships.
This what YouTube in for !! Amazing to hear such a youthful voice of the brillant Kubrick ! When was this interview done ? He sounds 30 although likely much, much older..
Apparently it was a Canadian actor called Douglas Rain. But the female computer in 2010 was credited to a made up name and it was actually Candice Bergen...so I wonder if Douglas Rain was a made up name and it was actually Kubrick?
I am so obsessed with Kubrick, I search for him everyday on the web and in the library. What's wrong with me, I can't get enough of him. ( Am male by the way)
Have you seen any of the Kubrick film reviews by a guy named Rob Ager here on Youtube? They are brilliant and nuanced analysis of films based on their symbolic / subconscious themes. Check them out if you'd like to see even deeper into some of Kubrick's films. His reviews of other films are also very illuminating. By the way, there's nothing wrong with being drawn to genius. It shows you are moving into a higher realm of awareness. Exposure to greatness encourages your own. Good luck.
I remember watching a couple of his reviews and not liking them. He seems too eager to make every good film a denunciation of America. The Shining, for instance, has references to every major western racial crime, but he tries to make it about only the the loss of American by the Native Americans (for example, by calling a polish hymn "an indian chant"). He also brings the American Constitution into it for fuzzy reasons.
As much as I shamefully hate to say it, I'm exactly the same way, unfortunately I'm going through a bad phase where I'm searching/looking up rediculous amount of information regarding various filmmaker's work instead of simply WATCHING their work. I absolutely HATE it.
you do it because you LOVE it otherwise you wouldnt do it and btw this is wholly understandable because filmmakers are the most interesting people on the planet!
I think it is our fascination of being similar to him and the admiration for his creations. But there is nothing wrong of searching/looking up information about him. You discover new things about the movies you think you know. You see the real prespective and outlook of his ideas. (as I noticed, he has a huge business approach to directing and it is somehow parallel to his artwork)
@detriplea He's fantastic...The thing with him is the quiet that surrounds him, that is strange to us, but in his case is because he is a Grown Adult. He didn't do interviews incessantly as a publicity-hungry media hugger, he only spoke when he wanted to talk. Consequentially, to most people today, there seems to be little to look at or talk about around him.

@detriplea he's worth paying attention to. he did what every big director says to do: grab any camera and start making anything you can. keep on going. these days with flip cameras it's almost free.
@detriplea u are not the only one. i cant stop thinking about him. and i try to spread the gospel of kubrick and his visions to my friends but they are so stupid to say his films are shit.. He is infact inspiring me to become a filmmaker. Being an Indian with all the bullshit films i saw in bollywood i never respected films only wen i saw kubrick's movies i felt amazed.
Stanley Kubrick is the greatest artist of our time!

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman ruined Eyes Wide Shut. I can't watch it, and I love Kubrick.

Am I nuts or does Kubrick's voice sound eerily like the voice of HAL from 2001 in this interview?
straker2 2 years ago
Yeah I can hear that too - who played HAL's voice anyway?
