what happens if your attacker is a stronger, faster, more accomplished martial artist, and a war vet?...i forsee a different outcome....nice "demonstration" though
@paulmariani1976 Really? Dude - it's like that in EVERYTHING. Of course if their stronger, faster, and more accomplished than you they will win - they're better! That is what practicing is for. But, these techniques aren't meant to duke it out with strong, fast, ninja war vets. They are for wailing on the sick rapist who attacks you from behind. Maybe they'll post techniques used on ninja war vets later. It wasn't perfect, but yes - it WAS a nice demonstration. Peace.
@phones7eat7ppl ok.. the average rapist isnt a skilled fighter, but how well are these women going to be prepared if their training partner puts up almost no resistance, and just kinda waits paitiently for them to strike back at him ? How well prepared will you be if your adversary doesn't truly test the limits of your skill, and your survivability in a dangerous non-dojo setting?
the little girl at 0:22-0:32 is even worse. the other stuff is good but they need to do a better job at realistic hold releases because thats the actual point.
Around 1:17, are you kidding me ? There is no way that I would use that guard sweep with some one my own size, let alone someone who is larger than I am. LEARN GRAPPLING FROM SOME ONE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS HOW TO GRAPPLE. Coming up with what you "think" will work is NOT ENOUGH!!
I know these guys are well meaning, but how they are going about this is god-awful and almost guaranteed to fail these women/girls when they need it most. Why? It is all theory and no meaningful application. That sankaku/triangle around 1:25 was executed as if it was learned by watching grappling off a DVD. If you really want this stuff to work you need to practice full resistance sparring, regularly enter full contact competitions, and hire a black belt Judo/BJJ instructor.
The only problem with basing a self defence class on a martial art like this is that you end up teaching set forms etc and you train to miss ... if you train to miss what doyou think will happen when your muscle memory kicks in in a real situation??? You'll miss
I used to get dressed up like the michelin man for my students, if not me then one of my instructors. It allows full contact, realistic practice. Obviously I would up the game as they got better, added more and more resistance. I found the hardest thing abut teaching self defence was that you were mainly teaching it to people who had never punched or kicked someone, let alone eye gouged or fish-hooked and there is an inate fear of doing it that needed to be broken.
exactly, when i train they stress control, and they stress to be sure to go to the maximum of proper form because if you quote "pull" a punch you never really understand it, and by all means, learning by going slow at first ist what really does that, instead of going fast and pulling punches, but never seeing how its supposed to work.
The young lady in this has the most potential, she portrays spirit. I felt as though everyone else were simply going through the motions. Hesitation equals death, they would think, the young lady was instinctive. Good demo, would like to have seen more intensity out of what appeared to be the senior blackbelt, if you're going to wear the belt, at least represent it.
Every style has its benefits and disadvantages. Kenpo has great techniques and other techniques that are less applicable but overall it's a good system.
Less locks, you wont be able to do that to a 200 pound guy in a hundred years, and more dirty fighting. The only thing a stronger male has to worry about really is groin/eyes/throuht... grab/poke/press/scratch... you wont hurt him with palm strikes
Yes you can idiot. My karate teacher taught me how to take him down. He weighs 240 and Im only 108. Karate teaches you WHERE in the face and HOW and What it will do. If your so ignorant to kenpo try taking six years of it and maybe you can learn to throw a punch.
You ruin your whole reply by starting out with calling me idiot, I just cant take you serius after that. Now, im gonna take back what I said about palm strikes not working. Im sure you can make it work after 6 years of training. Ill watch the vid again and post a new comment.
You know, I've actually never tried before!! I do pull ups, chin ups, push ups and alot more things they taught me how to do, but until my dad takes me to check it out, I dont know. I can do 35 pull ups and 30 chin ups, around 205 push ups, and im 14... been training since six years old, but then again I bike and swim and do alot of other shit...
Kempo Karate...My instructor took it in china since the age of five and is still training even now...But he set up a school years ago where I came at the age of five :P
Name of instructor=Tom Kao, and im SO sorry, its kung fu xD I was looking at the Kenpo Karate video and typing XD He learned in china, that's all I know
@omg9111 and do you really think your teacher would be taken down if he didn't take it easy on you? Full contact survival on the streets is tougher than your teacher letting you win. Try taking him out if it was a full contact excercise :-)
@paulmariani1976 I'm seventeen now. Been doing Kung Fu and Chinese Kenpo for almost ten years now. That comment made two years ago was and still is a basic understanding. I don't mean to make myself rise upon a pedestal here, but I've been in eighteen fights on the street due to the area I live in and the nature of the people here. Practical, efficient, and easy take-downs work on whomever. Absolute faith in what I know to work, as I've made it happen. Thank you.
@omg9111 At your age you may feel that those techniques are infallible, but there is always someone better. In the 28 years since I first began to study Wing Chun, and Aikido, I have been in alot of fights in the Army, on the street and places I won't mention. Some of us are resistant to takedowns. To say that they work on whomever shows your lack of experience. I have yet to see an attack that can't be countered. Good luck :-)
@paulmariani1976 My age has absolutely nothing to do with my experience living where I do with the confrontations I've had and most likely will have in the future. I train merely what works, and cut out the beautiful crap I learn in between. For example, the nine years I've trained Wing Chun alongside Hung Gar as my self-defense and striking, I've learned boxing combination's and ducking/weaving for its ridiculously efficiency in a REAL confrontation. Many Hung Gar techniques don't work. But -
@paulmariani1976 - the discipline, respect, honesty, courtesy, and Shaolin Kung Fu values will always apply, and what DOES work in Hung Gar is the basics with its blocking and powerful strikes. I took wrestling so far, all three years of High-School, with my instructor mixing mostly Jiu Jitsu because him and his brother are volunteer fire-fighters who ALSO work in Albuquerque MMA. No, I'm not a UFC fighter, my primary is Kung Fu. But my MAIN point is, although any attack can be countered,
@paulmariani1976 Being an efficient martial artist in NO WAY means I need to have that sort of intent at ALL. I've been stabbed at, I've had guns pulled out on me, and I've gotten away with my life very well knowing I COULD have killed the dumb bastard at hand with his own knife, laying bloody on the floor with a broken wrist. Don't confuse your duty as a soldier to kill someone with being a martial artist. Your not a martial artist, your a soldier. There's a big difference there.
@omg9111 I wasn't confusing the two. you sound a little confused. I said i have studied martial arts for 28 years. I never referred to myself as a martial artist. You are making inferences, that don't need to be made. I never said murderous intent is required for being a martial artist. Beside you are only a 17 year old kid. you have had guns pointed at you and lived, that only says the other person didn't have what it took to shoot.
This stuff looks great in theory, and all props to women's strength. But, do we really think many untrained women are going to be able to overpower their attacker the way the women in this video do? And even if they are trained, will they be able to do the moves here? I'm not so sure.
you will be KO very fast, because he will be not standing and waiting for your moves. he will be attacking you fast, with all his strenght and for most womens one punch to the face will be enough
Hm. Good control (considering you were using partners), great complexity. Over all I think that if a man tries to man-handle any of you woman, you'll put up one helluva fight.
some of the moves in this video are quite good. I know you have to shoe restraint when your partner is not protected. Some of the moves shown lacked speed and venom.

such as the elbows to the arms on the low bear hug.
