  • he just missed the safer barrier too :(

  • Best bit was when they cut off James Allen.

  • I was there right in front. I still have a carbon fiber part from the car.

  • He really was never the same after this.

  • Oh, Ralf, when will you be like your brother? u_u

  • @otharennaur

When he will have the same material like his brother ...

  • I swear he broke his leg, not his spine, can anybody clear this up, as I don't remember him breaking his spine :\

  • @MarwoodGaming Ralf cracked a couple of lower vertabrae and was out for a few races. Ralf has never broken his leg. Michael Schumacher broke a leg at the 1999 British GP.

  • That's why I hate Indy GP... USA, built this freacking GP in order to make drivers to crash and be killed by the havy impact. F1 one is not suppose to race on this GPs. (Even in this case, which the INDY GP were alterate to be possible for the F1 comes in.).

This GP is suppose to be the host of Nascar Sprint or something.

  • @machoman5001001 -- far from it ... what about Kubica crashing at Montreal - that was horrific !

  • @disengagejam That one didn't hurt him too much though, I'm pretty sure Ralf sat out the rest of the 2004 season because of this crash

  • all i remember thinking is ouch and OMG cos it was banked corner and yes i think the tyres went and this was a year or 2 b4 the funny race where only 6 cars started

  • i remember this was the last time i saw him because he ended his career

  • @jamexxxxxx no he didnt he stopped at the end of '07

  • @jamexxxxxx Fail...

  • this wasn't hard crash

  • @karolr87

The crash was measured at 78 g , one of the most severe in all of motor racing history. You can´t say that this wasn´t a hard crash ...

  • @f1fan04

Its pretty hard but not the hardest. Think the hardest was Kenny Brack crash at Texas which is around 200gs.

  • @212809 Thanks he said " one of the most severe" but thanks anyway.

  • @karolr87 No it was actually...

  • @karolr87 ... umm it was very hard actually.

  • I remember I flinched as he hit the wall, a 90degree impact into solid concrete at that speed is something we don't like seeing, but for me the worst part was watching Michael keep driving past lap after lap, so he was asking the team on the radio, big fucking whoop! I love racing & I love winning but as the oldest of 5 brothers I know if that was me I'd have been out of the car & talking to my brother not my engineer, imo no race is more important than family!

  • he crashed the next year in that same corner

  • And the next year (05) it will happen again, and he'll be blaming the car for it .Lets be honest RS, was average, his sole name,origin-BMW, and the 'politics' of F1,drove R Schumacher there and his own GREED flushed him out.

  • Good Lock

  • Your an idiot

  • If you use gravel traps at indy the car would overturn in the gravel, and that can cause massive head injuries if the airbox delves into the gravel.... tire barriers... yes of course, give the cars a ramp to fly into the audience & stop the car in a fifth of a second from 190 mph to 0 mph....

  • Zsolt Bamgautner scored his first point here in 8th for Minardi-Cosworth

it took 5 mins+ for the ambulance to get to him.

  • no ralf outperformed trulli in 06 & the later stages of 05 get ur facts straight

  • this crash got michilin fired.lol

  • @ravechorlton Nah, it was the next year when he was with toyota that the tyres caused all the probs.

  • @ravechorlton No, next year got Michelin fired, when, y'know, every car with a Michelin tire was stopped from racing because the tires were awful

  • If F1 ever comes back to Indy(im hoping it does) then they should rename turn 13 the schumacher corner. 1. because micheal dominated this race and 2. because ralf crashed twice at that corner. LOL

  • i hope they comes back to indy because the track is very nice

  • what speed was he goin at the time of impact?

  • 180mph something stupid like 75g deacceleration

  • holy crap..! didnt he get a concussion?

  • lol... way more than just a concussion...

  • lol yeah

  • 165MPH and 18g

  • he almost died (the safety of formula one cars is staggering nowdays ,your american race cars would have instantly killed the poor bastard) and was knocked the fuck out

  • Why do u think I like IndyCar?

    F1 all the way

    But it's true.... 165MPH And like 30G

  • jeff gordon not only survived, but walked away from, a 64g crash at pocono in 2006. how's that for safety in our "american race cars"? good enough for you galvatron?

  • y did u reply dis comment at me wen its ment to be at Galvatron7?

  • lucky, thats all.

  • rofl. this happens all the time in indy car races and nobody is knocked out. there are better impacts than this and they walk away.

  • no it doest ,stop lying and besides indycars doent even have the acceleration power f1 cars have let alone the g-forces that an f1 cars pulls on you

  • who cares...indy cars are rubbish end of!

    haha

  • F1 drivers used to race at indy, but they stopped having balls. atleast thats what jackie stewart and emerson fittipaldi say anyways

  • hardly, the american owner is too low on cash to pay for the f1 contract

  • lolno

  • HAHAHAHAAAA!! not. what difference does it make if the owner is "american" or not? the bullshit with michelin and the 6 car race in 05 doomed the event. f1 wasn't coming back to indianapolis if ecclestone offered to do it for free. period!!

  • i never said it made a difference, and why do u think the infield course exists anyway, it was built for f1. IMS would gladly accept a new f1 offer if it was cheaper than the new deal proposed by bernie.

  • well, they built the infield to attract the series. trust me......only the fringe formula fans around here would welcome f1 back. they treated this city like shit when they were here ........fucked thousands of people out of a race.....refused to compensate for ANY travel time and expenses, etc, etc. AND had the fucking nerve to insinuate that advertising was lacking leading up to race time....EVERY GODDAMN YEAR!! i mean really, who the hell doesn't know when a race is being held at indy?

  • im not talking about the people of indianapolis, im talking about the circuit management who still want a deal, and to quote tony george "After several discussions, Bernie Ecclestone and I were unable to agree how to keep F1 in Indianapolis for the near term,"

"However, we have agreed to leave the door open for a potential future date."

  • so you automatically assume that it's OUR fault that f1 isn't here? we have better things to spend 30 million fucking dollars on than formula 1. it ain't all that. at the end of the day ....the 500 attracts 400,000 people.....f1, not so much.

  • no, i dont assume that, bernie ecclestone is a tw@, i would love it to return to indy but because of the money it wont happen.

  • your absolutely right.

  • @fatriani There's a difference idiocy and courage.

  • Yeah, because they spend most of their time around the oval on the gas barely shedding any speed. Its not like they have to exit from any corners. You're a smart one aren't you ha

  • what??? u just said it urself. indy cars barely shed any speed which means they'd be going faster than a f1 car around that turn which leads you to the conclusion of indy cars having bigger impacts around the turn.

  • Dont mean to be an ass but an indy car is designed better for high speed inpacts than a f1 car. 2 Different cars 2 different sports 2 COMPLETELY different safty aspects are in view.

  • Not to side with chip because oval racing in general is shit, but indy cars are not designed any better than F1 cars in terms of high speed impacts, Formula 1 has, without question, the most advanced chassis of any race car in the world.

Yes Indy Cars do have higher top speeds, but vary rarely do you see them go head on into a wall, something that happens all too often in F1. When an Indy car goes into the wall, its usually at a much higher angle with a much smaller impact.

  • more like 225

  • You make it sound as if you think Ralf is a pussy? You can be the strongest man on earth and still succumb to an impact like that, it has nothing to do with toughness, if it did, Ralf would have walked away and we would have a lot of dead Indy car drivers.

  • blargd, you know nothing about formula 1

How can u say ralf sucks?

Look at his performance between 99-05

the only reason he sucked the last 2 years is because toyota had a really bad car

  • trust me its the driver...last win was in 2003 explain that.

  • It's as much to do with the car as it is the driver. When was the last time he had a car capable of winning?

  • hummm Vettel seems to want to win in STR. Ralf lost it..hasnt had it since 2003

  • True, I agree he lost his hunger to win, but he is still capable. Ralf has been through the mill, Sebastian is a young driver who has it all to play for.

  • This crash is similar to his crash during practice session 2005 at same track and chicane.

  • Almost like Indycar crash but clockwise.

  • Was Ralf hurt, or not?

  • Really hurt. He missed 6 races because of this accident.

  • worst thing, michael had to drive past that

  • Yeah This is Really A Red Flag!

  • lmao lost a leg!!! where u hear that from..... he daamaged his back but he didn't miss many races

  • Actually he missed 6 races and that's a lot in F1.

  • They should have Red Falged this. They did when MS crashed at silverstone, even though he easn't on the track like Ralf.

  • evrybody shut up ralf broke two sections of his spine he his not dead!!!

    he made a full recovery!

  • You are so sick you probs want 2 hear this but you are sick, what if it was yr parents o close family/friends!!!!!!!

  • Shut up retards, he damaged his back and neck a little..

  • his driving backward

  • You love it when people die?! OooO You sure you don't have any mental problems? Or does the 12 in your nickname stand for your age?

  • tosser

  • Why would you love it when drivers die?

  • Ralf isn't dead!!!He lost only left leg

  • He didn't lose a leg! he had a back injury and thats it! yesh!

  • Oh yeah. I am not a sadist, emo, or anything ele like that.

  • shut the fuck up you god damn red neck, why dont you go watch slow ass nascars

  • First of all Ralf isn't crap. 2nd you are a fuckin tosser. 3rd Ralf didn't die he just damaged his spine.

  • Sorry to burst your bubble but Ralf is crap, theres a reason he doesn't have a contract for next year yet =/

  • it's a miricle that he wasn't killed that day.

just shows the revelations in safety since the death of ayerton senna and roland ratzenberger.

  • NASCAR is the single most boring shit on the planet. Even worse than curling or cricket.

  • A1, V8 Super Cars, NASCAR to name a few.

  • formula one isnt racing

  • really, what do you consider racing?

  • f1 is the pinnacle of motor racing...

  • Ha ha whats racing for you then lmao

  • Jeff Gordon couldnt hack it in F1, he couldnt even keep his head up! lol stupid redneck!

  • stupid gringos why didn't they took out the red flag? the track was very dirty from the beggining, with the crash at 1st lap, then alonso, and finally ralf... I think that's enough to take out the red flag...

  • the impact was highlighted by the fact that his visor had almost came off....

  • 1 year later, deja vu for Ralf at the same corner.

That started the biggest farce in F1 history. (Apart from the drivers strike in the 80s)

  • It's not red flagged because it is in USA. If you guys look at crashes in nascar or IRL...the other guys don't even attempt to slow down when they see someone crashed and stay still on the track...they just blow past trying to dodge the carnage...unbelieveable...so stupid and selfish.

  • Uh, no they don't. Your commentary is completely off-base.

  • At least attempt to do some research before commenting about something that you obviously don't know anything about.

  • US guys dont call for redflag...neither are there any US steward

The decision is with charlie whiting, who calls the SC in every race, and also press the start finish light

  • And that corner is 200 mph ...and you cannot just slow down like that...if they stop near it, their car will be taken out from behind...So stop thinking such stupid reasons!

  • That was sick, because of the plain and obvious reason that the red flag wasn't waved. Not only that, even when the safety car was deployed, it took the marshalls five minutes before they started tending to Ralf to see how he was. No wonder he was pissed of!

    Incompetent Yank "marshals!"

  • Not marshals mate, we get blamed for these things, when it's the noobs in race control who make the decisions. We just have to pick up the pieces...

  • I can't believe it was not red flagged.

  • Yes that was a stupid decision for just a yellow flag! They should of thrown a red in the safety of other drivers and debris on that section of the track!

  • How did they not throw a red flag?
