I agree with you. My description is just a generalization. Often they're anti-intellectual, but I've known many who speak several languages and have Ph.D.s. Where I come from we have Asian rednecks (country music, working class values, NASCAR), that doesn't fit the stereotype, but as you stated, it's not about race. There also an antagonism between those who think they're intellectuals and rednecks, but I couldn't care less. The few actual intellectuals I've known do not have this bias.

sorry but the democratic party has lost its focus of support for the working man. It's become the handout not the hand up party, Not saying the republicans are right, as both parties need to refocus. Todays unions are outdated, and are the backbone of the Democrats(besides hollywood)

lets get a couple things straight first it is not the democratic party it's the democrat party!! there is nothing democratic about it or the way they operate in this day and age. secondly all the social progress the claim as thiers were actually done by the republican party and were fought bitterly by the democrat leadership. if you were to actually look into the real history of it it would be a great eye opener. there a number of places on the internet you can go to and find the real history.

Its rural working class American, usually from the South or West. Redneck refers to their necks being sunburned from working outdoors. They typically have conservative values/views and place a high value on manual work. They are not stupid, but can be anti-intellectual.

I'm glad I didn't add to my definition of rednecks something I thought about, that they often carry the Southern Gentleman/Lady tradition of politeness with them. Ive live over half my life in the South and the redneck anti-intellectual tradition is very strong. Listen to the song about at 2:40 (yes, listen to it); it attacks intellectuals. Charlie Daniels isn't attacking intellectuals at 2:40 in his song. He is rebuffing intellectuals that disparage rednecks. He says, "you intellectuals might not like it"... that's not an attack. The idenity of redneck is often misrepresented, however I do tend to agree with your general description. It really has nothing to do with intelligence just as it has nothing to do with race. It's about traditional American values and self reliance and not looking to government for how to live ones life.

I agree with you. My description is just a generalization. Often they're anti-intellectual, but I've known many who speak several languages and have Ph.D.s. Where I come from we have Asian rednecks (country music, working class values, NASCAR), that doesn't fit the stereotype, but as you stated, it's not about race. There also an antagonism between those who think they're intellectuals and rednecks, but I couldn't care less. The few actual intellectuals I've known do not have this bias.
