  • What Sonic 4 should be.

  • I love this video! I really like all the scenery and the background. Also loving the new Title Card! And you sent this the day before my birthday!

  • The Title Card looks awesome! I'm wondering, will the Title Card also have different colors and logos depending on which character you're playing as? e.g. Playing as Sonic with a blue Sonic styled Title Card (as demonstrated in this vid).

  • The music sounds like Hydrocity mixed with Stardust Speedway.

  • Cool! Now they can put on the new version.

  • I think I like the old version better. Plus the music works better for starry night.

  • Have you thought about using redbook audio for the Sonic 1 Music?

  • To be honest, the background is messy. But it's still great!

  • My jaws dropped and so did my balls.

  • I don't know why so many people became enraged about the graphics and got all hoity-toity. Who gives a damn? This looks like it will be fun to play, and I'm glad it's still around. ♥

  • @Pulfpuller I agree. Those people just think the graphics look like crud because they're watching a blurry video on YouTube! The real version is not going to look exactly like this in terms of blurriness. When you play this it's gonna look clear and awesome! That's what I think!

  • 2D Sonic + 90s music = great combination!

  • Loving every bit of this video, looks like City Outskirts Zone had major improvements on everything. It really sounds like the game in most areas had a huge amount of progress. Looking forward to seeing more of this game. You all never fail to impress.

  • @12cool725 Oh, shut the f*ck up. This is a hack of that game. Can't you appreciate all the new stuff rather than complaining that it uses some of the old stuff? Would you rather that they replace EVERYTHING, just for its own sake, or just to please you (since you have so much authority in this context), even though that'd be unnecessary?

  • Comment removed

  • @12cool725 So? My point remains. OK: What would /you/ do about it? And why bother?

I could say 'I can tell Sonic 2 is a hack [practically is] of Sonic 1'. So what? Megamix isn't meant to be TOTALLY different, & it's (now) MORE different than a lot of the stuff in the official games anyway.

Again, why change things 'just because'? You should be glad COZ isn't just a recolour of SYZ anymore. They're making an effort, & their new artist is great. STFU & appreciate what you get. Or do it yourself.

  • @FuelledByHamish Not to sound redundant, but I hardly consider a sequel as a hack to the original. I get your point, though. The current released version only has Sunny Shores as a completely different stage from GHZ. To me, that is a BIG difference from the first release of Megamix I have played. I have to say that this is the best hack of any Sonic game I have ever played, but one slight reason is because it is a full game.

  • I'm happy to see the team Megamix giving utility to Mighty The Armadillo!

Mighty is a good character who managed to win more fans with the help of Sonic 1 Megamix. I hope Ray someday.

  • Wow, amazing artwork

  • You won't see Shadow or Knuckles smiling while looking at balloons.

  • i think it look abit too easy for the third zone act 3, needs to be longer and have some pits but the music is awesome.

  • The music of the game is very good

  • Comment removed

  • I like how alive everything looks.

The Genesis Sonic games were sharp and unnatural. But this is an exact contrast.

  • having Sonic look _at_ the balloons looks pretty silly. Very nice apart from that.

  • DAMMIT!! It won't go any further than 1:03. D:

  • The level layout looks good, but this game seems to be developing an ugly habit of having really busy backgrounds. A little bit of "spice" is fine, but when you overdo it and it starts blending in with the foreground, it just begins to look ugly. Truth be told I think I prefer it as a simple recolor, those buildings on the closest plane look absolutely garish. I wish you guys would release more footage so feedback like this can be taken into account, but apparently you're to good for it.

  • @BaconStein Sounds more like a personal preference. Personally I love the busier and more detailed backgrounds.

  • @BaconStein True, functional graphics are key in such a fast game.

  • @BaconStein That last part was entirely uncalled-for, especially since you're responding to fresh video footage of a new level. gg, dude.

  • @BaconStein Or they're busy people with they're own lives. They have a job to do in the real world, or schoolwork to attend to. They'll develop as fast or slow as they can. It's not like they're getting paid, and it's not like you paid them any money. So they don't owe you any footage or future gameplay videos.

  • I hear Hydrocity Zone and Stardust Speedway JP in that song.

    Kickass.

  • Because I can't play any more new versions since they went from having them as Bin to ISO :|

  • @DarkHedgie Use Gens Plus

  • Now if only I knew how to use ISO files on Gens :|

  • It's awesome but one question. Do you guys plan on redoing all background art like SSZ and DFZ? but i know that MBZ needs to be changed based off of the last release.

  • THE MUSIC.

    I WANT.

  • Just jizzed my pants...

  • Mighty the Armadillo in Sonic Megamix, please! I hope Ray the fly Squirrel appear also. :D

  • @SuperHercus mighty in the game and plays like old sonic

  • Dammit cant wait till its out the true sonic 4

  • Sonic Rush with Sonic Megadrive's engine.

  • @Julianvallehermoso Dont you even compare this to that Trash

  • more like city speedway!

  • This feels... eh... too much Modern'y for my standards.

  • @GustavoMsTrashCan Play as Mighty, he handles kinda like S3&K's sonic. Or Knux, who is also rather similar to his older incarnation. Tons of stuff out there.

  • @Aitamen It's not about the characters; but the homing attack, promoting speed instead of platforming, etc.

  • @GustavoMsTrashCan That's why I said Mighty... he doesn't *have* the homing attack.

  • @GustavoMsTrashCan As one of the main level designers, I'd like to assure you that you won't be running at breakneck speeds all the time. There are still plenty of platforming sections (even in Starry Night, the fastest zone) and careless abuse of the homing attack is not always rewarded.

Personally I don't enjoy levels that just speed-trips as they devalue speed, and as such I try to design balanced levels where quick, flowing movement is a reward for playing well.

  • Holly hell that is awesome! Is there an ETA?

  • Is this the real Sonic 4 or what

  • I'm distrac-BRNNNNG-ted by the-BRNNNNG- stunning visuals.

  • Take my money! All of it! I can't wait for this.

  • I forgot to mention this in my last post but is "Run Bitch" still in the zone? XD

  • You guys really loves what you do.! Sonic LOVE!

  • Hey Stealth, is this even a hack anymore, because that video was THAT convincing to me!!!!! I've always enjoyed your work and that of Team Megamix, keep up the good work.

  • Homing attack & lightdash with classic Sonic? ALL OF MY YES

  • I asked Geckoyamori this question and did not get any answer: how is the music being stored on the CD? If it's Red Book audio, I imagine all the tracks won't fit comfortably on a 650 or 700MB CD along with the game itself, and it also won't repeat. On the other hand, it definitely doesn't sound like PCM audio, and the Sega CD can't play compressed formats.

  • @tkwtube01 You imagine? Imagine /what/? Your assumption seems to be based on some idea that Megamix will have about a million tracks. Sonic CD fit the game and a large bunch of tracks on one CD, so why can't this? Kinda dumb comment, really.

  • Wait... I just realized something: ignoring the problem of repeating, Megamix isn't going to have any FMV at the beginning or end, is it? If that's true, maybe the music would fit better seeing as how it is twice as long as an average Sonic CD track.

  • I really like the art for the zone, but the background buildings look odd or some reason....

  • This looks absolutely superb so far, if I can add a bit of criticism though, in motion is very hard to read the background text at the start of the level.

The heavy blue/purple gradient with no animation, and very heavy font makes them too hard to take in visually.

I'm loving seeing some original badnik designs inspired by Sonic CD, it's great.

  • Looks pretty good. Honestly though the newer graphics really dun look good while in motion though :S. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Oh and to the people that don't know, you can disable the announcer by going to Preferences and turning "Boss Time Text" off.

  • @Naganerd1 Yes, but even when you turn it off, it still slows down when you defeat a boss and the announcer still says KO.

  • @Naganerd1 don't forget that part of that might be that YT doesn't allow full-frame videos. don't fault the game for the compression ^__^

  • I love how this is looking so far. The only thing that would be nice though is if you could remove the B-B-Boss time elements and the announcer. But if you desire to keep the B-B-Boss time and announcer in the next release, could you at least make it so that when you turn it off in the options, it doesn't slow down after you defeat the boss and say KO? That's what's wrong with the current 4.0b build. Other than that, looking awesome so far. Can't wait to play this on my PSP!

  • swagtastic music

  • Foreground: some Collision Chaos Past

Background (at least in part): Streets of Rage 2 (bottom row of buildings)

Very interesting combination and original badniks too. Can't wait for playing this on my Sega CD ^_^

  • I definitely hear musical nods to Hydrocity and the Japanese version of Stardust Speedway. It's pretty awesome, not gonna lie.

  • Best part about megamix is the street fighter alpha 3 boss announcer. genius.

  • @flame6753 Personally I don't like the announcer, makes Megamix feel like a cheap mashup Mugen game.

  • Here's to hoping we'll get a soundtrack with the release.

  • This is clearly one of the best ROM hacks on the planet. Keep the amazing work up, guys!

  • Looks absolutely amazing. Makes me wish there was a Mega CD emulator for the Wii so that I could play this on my big TV.

  • Yamori really took inspiration from Hydrocity and Stardust Speedway for this theme.

  • Geckoyamori has definately mastered the Sonic CD style of music here. Tis awesome.

  • well dang

  • Now that footage was delicious.

  • Looks outstanding. Only thing I'd change at all in this would be Sonic's facial expression when he's holding onto that balloon. Looks a tad... weird..

  • Boss theme?

  • "Yummy", "tasty", "delicious"... apparently we really need to pursue culinary arts after Megamix is done., if your comments are any indication! :3

  • This level looks so delicious, now I'm even more excited.

  • YYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!

  • Looks tasty, I wonder whenever we ll get full release

  • Looking good! Can't wait.

    IIIIIIIIIIIITS SHOWTIME

  • Looks yummy.

  • @SirDonington I can assure you that I personally taste-tested this level while designing it to ensure an excellent flavor. You will not be disappointed.
