Good job I defeat Gary (Blue) with my Pokemon in my in their 40s my Alakasam use psychic on his venusar half Heath on both Pokemon and he went for solarbeam it was in the bag.
I was lev 70 across the board 14 years ago when I got to this battle :p I also had Dragonite already :D and Kadabara level 72 but I didn't know you had to trade it to make it possible to evolve it :p
lol OMG can you say desperate? He killed off what was left of your team,if it weren't for the massive abuse of items you were using, you would have already lost! That team was so weak and unbalanced that it is no wonder why you were crippled before the battle even started.I would be able to take down most of your team with just one pokemon.......
@thekidcuse2000 That's my problem! lmao It's supposed to recieve normal damage because Water resists Ice types, so it should even out with the Flying weakness. I forgive Blue version doing that though. There's worse things going on in that game. lol
How come is Venusaur's razor leaf "not very effective" on your gyarados even though it's water and flying type? Doubled damage for water and halved damage for flying type should count together as standard damage, shouldn't they?
@BobHope88 The first generation of Pokemon games didn't know how to handle damage multipliers with multiple-type monsters very well. You get some pretty weird effects sometimes, such as the not very effective razor leaf you point out and the super-effective blizzard via mirror move toward the beginning of the fight.
@Bartuccio3 Umm... the reason for this is because of one factor. If you hit a dual-type Pokemon with a move that is Super effective against one of it's types, and not very effective against another, the game just keeps it as effective... it wasn't really a glitch, they actually intended it this way in first gen... but, first gen was totally different from what we know now.
Gen 1, there were 15 types and 140 different Moves... that's less than 10 Moves per type. And the type balance was crazy.
Not saying thats a totally bad thing, impressive you still won, but it was more that items managed to save your ass. =P
I was like, level 57 to 62 across my team for this fight, made it alot easier. Guess a challenge would've made it a bit more entertaining though, although i know i would've ended up smashing my gameboy and breaking it into tiny pieces, Red is an asshole.
@DarkDerrik39 Download Vbalink (A version of Visual Boy Advance with Link cable capablities), or download an N64 emulator and use Pokemon Stadium to trade. I'm running the full deal right now from back in the days, with Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver. I've got all of them connected through Pokemon Stadium on Project64, I'm trading, battling, and working my way towards getting my own Surfing Pikachu.
More than half of all the Poison types (including Black and White) were created in Gen 1, and 33 of the original 150 were at least part Poison... the bad thing about that is, like I said before.... Let's say you have a Venusaur in Gen 1. He's Grass/Poison type. If he get's hit with an Earthquake, it's Super Effective against him because he's part Poison... the game just ignores the other type as long as they're weak to one of them. They changed this later, but it made Venusaur unusable forever.
Another thing that sucked about this was, there was only 1 SINGLE FUCKING GRASS TYPE THAT WASN'T PART POISON (Tangela), meaning all Grass types in Gen 1 were weak to Ground AND Psychic... and remember, over 1/5th of all the Pokemon in Gen 1 were part Poison, there were NO Dark types, only 1 Ghost type attack that could be Super Effective (which was Lick, the only other damage dealing Ghost move was Night Shade, and can only do 100 damage tops). Oh, and all the Ghosts were part Poison type too.
@DarkDerrik39 Oh... it's 85% accuracy in Stadium... and as much as you'd think 5% wouldn't matter, it almost always misses because that game abuses the shit out of the odds.
okey, i knew that magikarp evolves to gyrarados heh!^^ But magikarp can only do splash as a attack. So you have to like switch pokemon for him to get xp!
You are the geratest pokemonplayer ive seen on youtube, but you have a lot to learn. You should train a fire pokemon to defeat venasaur easier. It will be hard for you to win unless.
You should use my team.. It's pretty badass. Venusaur, Persian, Jolteon, Dugtrio, Dragonite, Alakazam. It's mainly a speed team since both Jolteon and Dugtrio are two of the top 5 fastest in the game, but yeahhh :)
That to, but legendaries are just cheats to use unless you are playing in the uber-tiers. Anybody can beat the elite four with ease if you had a team including mewtwo and mew. I might have exagrated a bit on dragonite, seeing how most people agree that Gyarados is superior to him (at least in the later games, I dont know about red and blue)
That I agree with. Mewtwo and Mew are only fun to use if you want to beat your inept little sister in a battle :p I wouldn't say Gyarados is supierior because his double type shares a weakness (Electric obviously) and his attack and speed really don't make up for it. Dragonite is better hands down
@ Jaahaah: Gyarados was easiliy one of the best Pokemon in Red/Blue, as there was only one Special stat, and Gyaardos had great Special and Attack, so he was a devastatingly powerful mixed attacker. Although Dragonite is very good too.
@ jt1893: Gyarados' typing is actually pretty good, even with the double weakness. That's like saying Scizor sucks because he's x4 weak to fire.
Well, i mean, i did play a lot of red and blue when i was a kid but since, well i was a kid and english is not my main language i did not know much about pokemon eaither that is why i dont remember if gyarados was uber back then. I do remember him hitting VERY hard with hyper beam though. Now i mostly play leaf green and i have to say Dragonite feels a little nerfed compared to gyara. I mean dragon element is great but combined with flying, not so much, *4 to ice attacks really brings him down
Scizor has 20 less special defence than gyarados and a lot less hp, considering that gyarados is super weak to electric attacks, which are special based, and schizor is weak to fire attacks, which is also special based, gyarados can take his weakness a lot better
growth too, rhydon keeps using leer and tail whip, if he haves an exegutor, he will keep using hypnosis and barrage, or stomp, he is not that hard I think

Magikarp evolves into Gyarados at level 20, you can either buy Magikarp from a guy in the Pokemon Center by Mt. Moon, or catch one with an Old Rod.
And no, I'm pretty sure Electabuzz is Red version only. But you can find them near the Power Plant in Red.

Gyarados happens to be quite bulky, I'm afraid. Intimidate, High HP decent Defence, and good SpDef make him very hard to take down.
Though I will admit the lack of a reliable healing move does make Scizor bulkier.
